I'm well aware that it happens all the time - I was just saying how it was originally supposed to work! If the original reason for VAR had been applied, the goal should have stood.

Wasn't VAR (initially at least) supposed to be for obvious errors? In which case, the goal should have stood as it was a matter of millimetres and could not be classified as an obvious error.
