I'm starting to think this virus & all related lockdowns etc. are having an effect on football. It's not just Brentford but there have been loads of freak results everywhere. We need crowds back but no idea when that will happen. Game's just not the same.

Having just watched the highlights, four things
Preston first goal I do wonder if Raya was in goal would he have come for the cross
Mbeumo should not have lost the ball not far from our penalty area
Daniels should have done better with the shot for the third goal
Fourth goal oh for VAR as they said in commentary the ball was a good few inches/cm outside of the D

But it doesn’t make it any better , we were poor
Agree with most of that except the VAR reference on the 4th goal. If a ref and lino miss that they shouldn't be out there.

Raya needs to start and Rico back to judge the defence. The keeper is so important to the defence as we saw last night with Liverpool. My real worry was ahead of them, I dont believe Canos is a first team starter and Bryan has been awful since the return of football, it may be Covid related. But for Marcondes and Jenson I dont know what they do, Marcondes is suppose to be an attacking midfielder with an eye for a goal. How many league goals has he scored in three years. Oh for a fit and younger Alan Judge in that role. Im still hoping we make a couple of signings even if they are free transfers we dont have to make money with every signing.

It was dire. But let's wait for the response vs Coventry. If more of the same then start to get edgy. IMO and at the risk of upsetting folk, Bryan has had enough chances and he should be benched. Jensen plays hide and seek and is a scaredy cat. He shouldn't start. Marcondes had a mare and is erratic and ideally shouldn't start. Trouble is we may have to persist in mid because Baptiste seems to have an injury issue and Norgaard might be out for a while. Frank needs to earn his corn by juggling what he's got into a competitive mid. That's where it went pear shaped. I wouldn't blame the defence as there was a yawning gap in front of them.

It definitely is. In immediate period post lockdown for most teams in top two tiers something was resting on the games whether fighting for promotion or against relegation or for a European place etc. Hence the teams could generate their own Adrenalin that would normally be provided by the crowds. That’s not the case now so expect more freak results, which is why Spurs may actually benefit of the top tier clubs as Mourinho is one of the few old school managers left where no player dare leave anything out on the pitch.

For Brentford noticeable that those players really fighting for a place in team such as Mads Bech, Goode, Forss, Fosu and in the main Thompson have put in some of our best performances as they are generating their own “12th man” energy and will to win.

If we are in that situation again, try Fosu at RB & Henrik at DM.......maybe lol
Thomas has already started aid during his lockdown interview that HD cannot play defensive midfield...I believe they have tried in training. I would though be tempted to try Fosu at right back again......we have a couple of weeks now to work on defensive side of that role.

Ok thanks, that is a shame. DM is a role where being able to read the game is important, so experience helps

The Marcondes map is shocking.
It’s good when the figures confirm what you think you see at the time.

He just rarely seemed to find a teammate and these were generally run of the mill short passes rather than ambitious defence splitting efforts.

I thought he was awful yesterday and the figures seem to back this up.

Why was it Josh that crossed from the left for Toney to score. Where was Sergi then and why did he not cross from the left into the box at all. That is his aim.
I know he hit the wonderful long ball onto Bryans foot.

Are we allowed to clone another JDS (or 2)?

yeh he had an absolute mare. They're not even that difficult passes. God knows what happened there, is usually much better than that. The team heat map is pretty scary too, all in the middle of our own half, barely anything around their box. Ghoddos had spectacularly little impact!

Very interesting and unfortunately it confirms that I was watching the same game and that it wasn’t a bad dream......Marcondes was shocking.....I’m sure it won’t be long before the quotes about all the “unseen” work come out! Did Canos also get substituted at the same time as Norgaard......I didn’t think so but perhaps the map suggests otherwise 🙄

The pass map is excellent but don't forget a big part of the game is done without the ball.

Yes, and it doesn't show all ends of possession. E.G. getting tackled or running into someone, or goals.

Looks like Canos and Toney had very little involvement when it comes to passing.

Toney doesn't pass. He job is to SHOOT!
It is also to link up play. It didn't stick well up front which was another cause of our issues. We can go through all sorts of maps and stats, but the reality is 90% of the team didn't get above 5/10. Do that against any side in this league and you'll come unstuck as we found out a few times last season. Don't expect us to do it again...

The contrast between JDS's heatmap and Marcondes' (and to a lesser degree Jensen's) is truly stark even allowing that JDS had an extra 20 mins on the park! The difference in terms of the impact is clear and the real worry would be the number of failed passes from EM in middle of the park that only invite more pressure.

We should keep in mind that passing is only one metric for measuring performance though.
