Would still have Sri Lanka as favourites to win this. Sangakarra saying that a chase of anything over 170 4th innings at Galle is usually too much.

Good day marred by the last 30 mins that gives SL a chance to force a win on the last day. Root brilliant again - they can only get him run out lol

Broad may as well come out swinging tomorrow and if it comes off we could just about be at parity - spinners need to come to the party to try and get them out cheaply

Root was physically shredded and just hanging on until stumps which he would have thoroughly deserved. Earlier in the day he would have got back in his crease in time.
Class act, well done Joe. Average almost up to 50 now.

Could've done with Wood batting through to close for him.... ...

Opps good point - in that case we may as well declare overnight 🤣
There's a case to be made for that. Jimmy needs to be physically and mentally as fresh as poss for his 10fer quest. Is it worth running out for 10mins in his pads then back in again?

Both time and runs are so precious. A last wicket stand of just 15-20 Runs which eats up half an hour would be so helpful.
Nah. A record breaking 10th wicket 3 figure partnership before Jimmy skittles SL for 52ao leading to an innings and x runs win. The Queen flies in and knights Sir Jim on the pitch. Simples :sorted:

I think Joe Root should be teaching these Sri Lankan batsmen how to play spin. I’m serious. I never thought I see a bowler get 5 wickets as easy as Bess did in the first innings of the first test. He may well better it this morning.

Entertaining watching this mind you.

England should defy convention and open with their two best players of spin. Openers are picked to see off seamers, not spinners.

In a blink the lead is over 150. A good counter attack from Embuldeniya.

We've let this slip here, too many easy singles available and Embuldeniya is probably playing the innings that wins Sri Lanka the match.

Credit to Embuldeniya in his eighth Test. He'll have to bowl 25 overs unchanged from one end and gathers himself an extra 40 to bowl at when his teammates couldn't.

Irrespective of the result Sri Lanka have really found themselves one here.

Is anyone predicting an England collapse post tea?

I personally think England will win by 6 wickets. Sri Lanka just don’t have the depth of wicket taking bowlers.

Dare I say you look like you could be right - 85-3 currently needing another 79 to win with Root just out. Think we will have enough but another 2 quick wickets and it goes back in the balance...

from an entertainment point of view, Root getting out cheaply was just what was needed!!
Plus the other batters need to take some responsibility....
