The return of Eddie Hutchinson maybe? Clearly MB wanted that kept quiet.
There's plenty at GP that are longing for someone to run around like Eddie and win those headers in midfield from the 'keeper's launches.

Thank you for signing Pontus, Matthew.
Please can some of the waankers who whinge about the incoming transfer money now pipe down please . Norsgaard, Pinnock, Raya and now Jansson with more to come.
Best time since the mid 1930’s to be a BFC fan.

Sadly, the biggest t0ssers will probably still spout cr4p. An old headmaster of mine used the phrase "The emptiest vessels make the most noise", once, in reference to people who talked a lot, without saying anything worthwhile.

That's a pretty well known phrase BJB. Unfortunately, my Mum used it a lot where I was concerned rofl

Over the last few seasons we have continued a slow but fruitful process of buying developing and making good profit thanks to the genius that is MB.

And now with FFP we seem in a fairly strong place against some of the bigger boys!

I think the composition of the January transfer window in the Championship (predominately loan based acquisitions) hinted at a fiscal purse tightening exercise by the clubs. I don't know if this window will be any different but very few teams in this lg are strengthening at the moment. It feels a bit surreal that we are the only trading club at the moment, surely it will change soon?

It's because we plan a couple of windows in advance and refine those plans as each window approaches. This means we focus on our targets and close a significant percentage of the deals early. A good number of our acquisitions say similar things: that Brentford showed they wanted and valued me; that the way the club works impressed me; etc. We also know that many clubs have a scatter-gun approach to recruitment, so will hold out until the last minute to get the figure we want... or even past the last minute last summer.

To be fair, Bristol City have been fairly active too. Agree with the wider point though. We're incredibly well run...

This.

In fact, I'd guess the day we sign a player like Maupay or Benrahma is also the day we start scouting their replacement, with that replacement often coming in before the player he's replacing has even been sold on.

There's a saying in The City: "Sell [shares] when you can, not when you have to".

I've always thought the Football equivalent to be "Buy [players] when you can, not when you have to"

Well and sell too I'd say.

To give a bit of perspective, there's a very interesting article here on Sunderland's finances:
https://rokerreport.sbnation.com/2019/7/16/20695076/scmp-the-daunting-financial-challenges-facing-sunderland-this-season-whats-the-issue-why

Despite having sold over 23k Season Tickets so far this summer , money is still v.tight on Wearside. In fact, financially speaking, it was probably better they didn't get promoted last season, since the FFP Rules applied to Championship clubs would actually have hit them harder than the SCMP Rules for Leagues One and Two! (Though this season they should be better placed financially if they do go up).

Anyhow, it is yet more proof - if it were needed - of just how incredibly well Mr. Benham and his people run this club. :sorted:

The Club would have died as a professional outfit without Mr B

No matter what the outcome of the complete development may mean in financial terms, we can never fully repay him

Fans need to remember this when large property transactions happen in the future

I was looking at the teams that are currently in the national league ..teams we were playing on a regular basis ten years ago chesterfield ,Hartlepool ,Stockport,etc..this could have easily been us without the input of mr b...we have so much to be thankful for and are truly blessed to have him as a supporter and owner ..

Was only 5-6 years ago we lost to one of those clubs in the league one playoff final.

Thank you Aston Villa for the new stadium.

Rumour has it, that our seats are multi coloured in honour of all the “big” clubs who have paid us top top dollar for our players, not quite realising it’s our whole system creating the success as much as it is the individual player they are buying.
