Is Scottish football now completely discredited?

What a bunch of absolute dicks. Out celebrating a defeat as well. As for the Celtic player, I can't really find the words. Hope this serves as an early warning call to "English" players ahead of a new season.

I think Neil Lennon has basically told him he is finished there and if he isn't it is going to be a very long way back

Livingston brought a Slovakian on as a sub yesterday and subbed him off again five minutes later. As far as I can tell from the reports it wasn't injury related:eek:

Apparently he was mid-quarantine, and the coach felt it unethical to interrupt this for longer than absolutely necessary..

The BBC trailer for Scottish Premiership coverage is an absolute disgrace; it features, IMO at least two red card and one yellow card tackles. Shocking!

With Celtic loan signing Shane Duffy's (alleged) track record for homophobic tweets (allegedly) I think Celtic at least have been discredited. Considering the club's emphasis on helping out he underdog, that's a real horror moment.

Don't worry he'll be allright wth some of their fans:

"The row erupted after a message appeared on Duffy's Twitter account at 1.40am on Monday. He appeared to reply to and retweet a message from a fan saying Up the Ra!', after uploading a photograph of a pint of Guinness to celebrate St Patrick's Day.

The messages came hours after memorial services were held to mark the 20th anniversary of the IRA's Warrington bombing.

However, Duffy insisted that someone took his phone and retweeted the message without his knowledge.

[For the avoidance of doubt the "Ra" referred to is the (Irish) Republican Army, not Rwandan Athletics or the Royal Academy.]

Should have kept on with his singing and touring car driving but then again he wasn't much good at those either.

Why is it when something dodgy happens the person always says they have been hacked or someone grabbed their phone while they weren't looking

I remember reading on some "Who's the thickest footballer?" site that Duffy once admitted that he'd failed his driving theory test 12 times before he finally got it!

Thick as pig sh1t - for admitting it publically as much as anything else!

Haven't the brains to think of something more plausible nor the integrity to admit the truth?

Tweets from 9 or 10 years ago when he was at Everton?
He apologised in writing to the FA.

I don't disagree with you. However, the Bears seem to think it still matters. (cf Andy Murray's comment in 2006 that still gets held against him by some people.)

That was just the first minute of an Old Firm game.

BBC Scotland has made a History of Scottish football (since the 1970's basically), in 3 x 1 hour episides, which is now available on iPlayer.

I've only watched the first one, but it's absolutely fascinating stuff, veering wildly from the insane to the bizarre to the, well, even more insanely bizarre eg the Scottish police asking the Hearts team at half-time not to score again against Hibs, for fear of a riot!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b07pqpfp/scotlands-game-1-i-play-for-money
(The above episode is only available for another 21 days, I think)

Truly wonderful stuff - Terry Butcher features btw - and well worth an hour in a comfy armchair with a glass of your favourite tipple.

Are you talking about Rangers and Celtic, when talk of poor quality Scottish football?

In a sense, I guess this is restoring a bit of "credit" back to the game up North?

Across the [Scottish] top flight, 73 players signed on with new clubs, with 242 departing. Data collated by BBC Scotland shows this is comparable to last year's tally of 93 in and 263 out.

"Belts are being pulled tighter," said BBC pundit Allan Preston, who also works as an agent with management company Stellar. "St Johnstone are down to around 18 first-team players now, which is a big gamble as they used to have 22. Hibs have brought in seven but let around 11 or 12 go. They'll be hoping for no injuries, but it's all down to Covid and saving money.

"The amount of money being offered to players has also gone down around 10 to 15%."

Sporran tightening

It's easy to laugh at Scottish football, but this guy deserves enormous credit:

"Part-time players are used to days off work and long trips to pursue their football dreams, but how about a ferry journey and a two-and-a-half hour drive before the team bus sets off for another three-hour haul?
That's what Brora Rangers defender John Pickles has to look forward to when the Highland League champions travel to Hibernian for Wednesday's League Cup tie.
And then there's an overnight excursion from his home in Finstown, Orkney, to Dingwall on Saturday for a Covid-19 test before he's even allowed to play at Easter Road.
The 26-year-old can't wait."

All that way to get gubbed...

Btw, Brora, a village in Sutherland of fewer than 2,000 people, is up by Aberdeen on that map.

Pickles has been doing that sort of thing for five years. 😲

No longer discredited. They beat a top team in Israel on penalties playing at home.

Well done the Jocks.

Fishing rod.
They were, to coin a phrase, celebrating like they won the Cup, when they beat the mighty Israel on penalties.

And to use the words of another.

What an embarrassment.

I can see why they would celebrate that when they've had **** all to celebrate for decades.

Dont think it will go much further then that though. Serbia are a decent outfit.

Fair enough, but Steve Clarke didn't look too happy, but then again when does he.

They still play football in Scotland!? When did this happen? Thought Scottish football died after 1978?! 🥴

....it died...internationally...due to the invasion of ENGLISH players coming to Scotland....Rangers and Celtic...in the mid eighties....and to add insult to injury....they came at a time ENGLISH clubs were banned from Europe due to hooliganism.....so it's thanks to you lot....and SKY to some extent....that football in the land of my birth has been in the doldrums for years.
