Just watched Jurgen Klopp's pre Midtjylland press briefing, and was interested to note that he said before joining Liverpool 5 years ago, both FC Mid/Bees had shown an interest in appointing him and was invited to "have a look" at what (we) and FC Mid were "doing"( in Klopp's words) but opted for Liverpool.

It was rumoured on here at the time but I think this is the first time it has been publicly confirmed as being more than 2+2=5

It certainly puts Warburtongate into context that we were of even passing interest to Klopp in 2015.

I more read it at the time as Matthew Benham and him having a meeting of minds (if you will), and once that was made public people started to speculate that we were trying to get him to be our head coach, which we weren't. Correct me if this is wrong though.

The clip on Twitter suggests that he was just going to come and 'see what we do', rather than join us. Many managers visit different clubs and training facilities to get ideas and broaden their horizons between jobs.

Someone must have alerted the betting companies, or put a bet on, as he suddenly entered the race.

Yeah that's how I read it myself; he had left Dortmund so was studying different approaches to the game before taking on his next project. FCM in particular at that time had started the statistical model and he had a curious mind to how it worked. From what I read Klopp is very into statistics and analysis himself at Liverpool so you can see how he'd have been interested in spending a period watching FCM or Brentford at the time. I doubt either was ever going to be his next project though :)
