Good result. Had to win today.

Luton were poor, though. Should have been a more convincing scoreline.

It was noticeable that the balance of the side as it was today was clearly the most comfortable for the team. No square pegs. Whether or not we have the personnel available to maintain that perfect balance with 3 games a week I am not sure.

A mention for Sorensen and Janelt. Clearly most would drop them if everyone was fit but looked every inch the part today.

Luton have had a decent start to the season, they weren't poor, just outclassed in every department by a team who put in a complete performance all round. I am not sure the two big name players who are injured are just going to walk back into the side. Well done to Canos in particular for putting in a very good game.

A nice comfortable relaxing win. We were due one of those. Thought it was a solid team performance against a well organised team who just couldn't cope with the rather large gulf in class between the quality of their players and ours.

Special praise to Rico, who is now so clearly too good for this level it is ridiculous, JDS who was his usual imperious self, Canos who worked his maracas off, and Toney who as well as scoring is really starting to ressemble Watkins in his pressing. Which to my mind makes him the most complete striker we've had. And Forss, who managed to score what was actually a really difficult chance against a goalkeeper who was very quickly out in the only way open to him, a delicate chip, and to do it in a way that made you think it was an absolute sitter and he was never going to miss.

A small thing I noticed is that Pinnock is much less comfortable with people running down his right hand side, and so it is not ideal to have to move him to accommodate Sorensen, who did well again. The right side of our defence needs to be tighter against better opposition. Still we were generally solid today.

Two big games coming up against teams that will be top ten at least. If we can get to the international break nicely nestled in the top six then the race is on and we've only just hit our stride.

Thought Sergi was very good today, the pass to Bryan in the first half was outrageous, the 2nd half he made some great counter attacking surging runs, just needs to sharpen up on his final ball then I think he will be back to his best. Fitness levels are coming back after a long time out. We really outplayed the opposition for most of the game, could not fault anybody really today, great to have 2 free scoring CF. 0-5 would have been a fair score line today, roll on Tuesday for another 3 pts hopefully. Difficult to chose MOM all around 7/10.

As the team sheet was announced decided not to read the comments on twitter more for my mental health and sanity. Thought it was brave to start with Canos but TF got it right and the subs right. Credit to TF.

Thought we were a class apart from Luton. They started ok to the season and before the match were above us. We bossed the whole game and the result after Rico scored was never I doubt, in fact we should have won by at least 5.

So many positives from this result and no negatives. Onwards and upwards. I said last week after Stoke I expect 10 points from our next 4 and nothing has changed my view.

We were magnificent.

only downside for me was Janalts booking after 89 mins when he pulled a bloke back - just silly. We can’t do with him being suspended 😂😂 (2 in 2 now for him)

amazing performance. Let’s get 6 more by this time
Next week

Luton were poor but we made them so. They have had a good start and are more together under Nathan Jones than when we shelled them 7-0. Sorensen, Janelt and Rico were excellent.. Raya composed .. very happy with everyone as a whole. Important clean sheet as well. Short trip back home to prepare for Swansea on Tuesday

Good win.

Might silence the wet knicker brigade for a few days.
Might also silence the Canos knockers too. Never watched the game but a 3-0 win away is an excellent result.seen the goals on ssn, special praise to Marcus Forrs for a quality goal he looks like a class act, a reasonable star to the season, /i fancy us to get stronger as the season kicks on if the government allow.

While winning away by 3 goals and a clean sheet is a good result, what was more impressive was that we played our game throughout and controlled Luton who were – just to remind people – above us in the table. There was no panic in our play, just a determination to stick with it. I don't think you could say any of the selected players, despite the furore on social media when the selection was announced, did not do their job and contribute to the game.

What I thought was interesting was the supportive relationship between midfielder and wide attacker on each side, Dasilva and Mbeumo were much closer to each other and Marcondes regularly went outside Canós to give him the freedom to drift more centrally. I believe this put a lot of pressure on Luton's defensive 5, not quite knowing who to mark, especially as Toney came deep and wide as well. If this was really a tactical ploy, then equally impressive is that the coaches got this across with so little time between games.

I hope we've settled into a rhythm where these performances become normal.

I wasn't wringing my hands after the last couple of games so not going to go over the top now but pleased with this excellent result and for the individual players who had been slated previously. I believe our squad is far stronger than last season and we will be better able to cope with injuries etc as the season progresses. Last season's horror show at Luton has been exorcised.

Another tough away game for the bees, tight pitch, Luton likely to get at us and press and harry our powder puff midfield boys. Could there be another disappointing result at a wet and windy Kenilworth Road?

Short answer. NO. Carrying on from our excellent performance in midweek against a very strong Norwich side the Bees took control of the game from the off and never let go. Just two changes from Tuesday, a rest for Jensen with Janelt coming back into the no.6 role and also for Ghoddos with the much maligned Canos taking his slot.

Luton had had a good start to the season with their new 3 at the back formation proving to be a succesful change from their flawed diamond and they filled the centre of the park from the start with space at a premium. Brentford however were patient, playing it around comfortably at the back, waiting for opportunities to pounce and with Toney and Marcondes interchanging up front they slowly dragged the Luton formation all over the shop. JDS with a burst of acceleration got past his man and suddenly things opened up, the ball fell to Henry on the edge of the box and he arrowed a beauty into the back of the net. Not long after and an exquisite ball from JDS found Canos who's own exquisite ball set Mbeumo free in the box. His perfect touch took him past his man and with the outside of his boot teed up Toney for an easy 9th of the season.. Strolling.

Luton abandoned their 3 man defence before HT but it didn't help. Brentford came out with renewed vigour in the second half and dominated the first 15 minutes. All that was missing was the third goal. Luton rallied a little after that but the new pairing of Pinnock/Sorenson looked rock solid at the back ably helped out by the flying Henry and reliable Dalsgaard. Marcondes went close to getting the third after a lovely bit of play with Canos but we had to wait until the subs came before it arrived. Not long mind. Jensen (on for Marconde's) picked out a poor pass in midfield, powered forward and slotted a perfect ball into the path of Forss who dispatched a difficult chance with ease with his first touch. Game over..

No doubt we'll hear how poor Luton were but they'd been in good form and had looked pretty solid up until now. We made them look ordinary and this was without Jensen and Ghoddos in the starting line up. Everyone was on it today but particular praise for Canos who had an excellent game on the wing. Mbeumo, who again showed his value with yet another assist, Mads Bech, who's growing into his role and the superb Rico Henry, my MOM. Difficult to pick out one or two as everyone played a part.. Confidence is starting to flow again and we're looking a lot more resilient too. That desire to defend was clear with the team getting back into formation like a shot on the rare occasion we lost the ball.

Tougher game in midweek but nothing to fear. Fixtures in November look promising (if we're allowed to play them) and I think we've still got a couple more levels to go up from here.. Frank will be pleased, all going in the right direction....

Very well thought through and written report. Pipe-esque. Thank you!

Nah, they are poor to be fair. Saw them against Forest and thought they looked League Two. How they have 13 points is beyond me. That's not to take anything away from a top Bees performance mind. :sorted:

Forss averaging a goal every 26 minutes this season....he’s going to be some player.

Great game, we played them off the park, of course Toney scores again, Rico bossing it, JDS is just class, Janelt after a nervy start was the general in midfield and broke play up...Canos have to applaud him, his best game for a long time.

Luton were poor last year but beat us. This was an impressive victory against a dangerous team on their own patch. The Rico goal ripped up their game plan. The first goal is almost make or break for us every match - particularly away from home.

The position he plays in means he is likely to get quite a few yellows, CN already has a few.

This season, more that any other, will be defined by depth of squad. We have no problems with the number 9 position.

"Far" stronger?

I'd like to think you're right, but having had to replace our two star players, Watkins and Benrahma, I'd be happy just for us to be equally strong.

So that with an extra year's experience under our belt, we can close the last little gap this time round.

Missed most of the first half, but from what I saw we looked class. Particularly pleased for Conos, Mads and Vitali who had good games. The long throw adds another dimension to our attacking threat which is great. We certainly look dangerous going forward. Can’t wait for Tuesday’s game.

No problem? We have a major problem, the Centre Forward has scored 13 league goals in 9 matches. The problem is he is two players!

That's 66 goals for the season... that's just greedy for one player.

Nathan jones comments on our win.
Interesting choice of words from him in his (lavish) praise... “they get proper athletes”. One of the huge pluses of the past couple of seasons: you look at Ethan, Ivan, Christian, now Vitaly, and see the development of Rico, Josh, Mads Bech, Marcus. Proper athletes 🏋️‍♂️

Refreshingly honest and great for us to hear but does highlight the dilemma for managers when they speak to media as what he said will not do much for the confidence of his own team.
Sounds like he is expecting a long hard season. His interview does emphasise the importance of squad depth and fitness levels ( which they clearly don't have) in this season of all seasons. A lot of teams are going to fall away as the season progresses. This is when the B team may really benefit us.

Jones' comments may also reflect the backroom staff and technology behind our players, with the analytics staff that support Thomas in his decisions (see substitutes thread). Managing players' recovery and minimising injury exposure is going to be really important this season. We've substituted players that have a an increased risk of injury whereas Jones speaks of his players playing with injuries.

I think that is what he was referring too.

The sale of players for £20m and £30m.

Yes, I understood it that way too. Last season was the first in which we’ve been able to pay what other Championship clubs would consider a high fee to buy players because the money coming in moved to the £20m+ bracket. To get there we bought cheaper but better than most of our peers could manage but we’re already fishing in a bigger pond to be able to afford oven ready Championship players to take up to the £20-30m level.
