It is interesting that fans make snap judgements on players whereas the coaching staff take a more longer rounded view of their abilities and potential. In most cases the coaches get it right and perhaps that’s the case with a number of players who get grief on here

Still makes me feel nervous, as I keep thinking he's got an error in him, but his improvement is clear to see.
Got to remember that he's only 21 and his strengths are clear in that he defends, gets himself in the way of the ball, reads the game well. But, he lacks experience, so he's not at the level that Jansson is at. There's no point pretending that he's anything other than still in development, but he's performed well so far this season and he'll undoubtedly keep progressing.

Understand what you mean. There seems a naivety about him. Having said that, I think he has made fewer mistakes than Mepham did. He is getting better and better. Will be a quality player.

I like that he seems to relish a physical challenge, which is unusual for a young player. I was waiting for the clash with Andy Carroll but he clearly decided to play as far away as he could get, on their left wing! The extended run of games means he's able to learn about the movement of the mobile centre forwards which can only be good in the longer term.

Definitely winning the most improved player award and once Pontus is fit will give TF a big headache selection wise albeit a good one. I have to admit I would have loaned him out and kept Racic but happy to be proven wrong....

Funny what we see. He had a solid game so cant complain but i think he looks slightly uncomfortable on the ball and can hesitate on it. Doing well but we missed Pontus distribution into the midfield IMO.

I'd agree. Never over-awed against Kane and played with calmness, bringing the ball out well at times, too. We've got a good'un.

I was worried in the first 20 mins as he was slow to get the ball away but to be fair after that he didnt put a foot wrong and is probably the unsung hero of the season so far.

I think his passing's pretty good actually. Couple of nice cross field ones and down the line to henry/Canos. I think the hesitation was often because there were no options as they were quick to mark Henry out wide and Janelt and Jensen weren't giving him options in midfield. I don't think he's any worse in that respect than Pontus who generally plays sideways to Dalsgaard or Pinnock. I don't really like Pinnock on the right though as he always wants to cut back on his left to pass it.

Agreed some really nice Barbetesque cross field passes last night. He has improved no end this season and did well last night against quality opposition. Developing into a very decent centre back & will get better with experience.

Shout out to MBS today, he’s been playing a lot of football lately and had 90 minutes dealing with Kane, Son and Lucas Moura on Tuesday. Another full match today with some inexperienced players around him and he was nothing but a calming influence (even when shoved out to LB at the end).

Can’t see how can drop him at moment. Really looks a player. I’d say a step ahead of where Mepham was when he left us. Pinnock and Pontus battling for the right sided Centre half position

How good was he tonight? Looked every inch the senior pro.. Happy to take responsibility on the ball and push forward, think it was his ball into Forss that started the move for our excellent second goal.. Looked comfortable at LB too.. Starting to wonder whether he should be dropped when Pontus gets back??

I remember him being one of the stand out players a few seasons ago when the B team beat Rangers up here at their training ground. Stand out because he was assured and not afraid to put his body in where it might hurt and he played with the ball at his feet. Mads is learning and developing, and that is wonderful to see the clubs model in action

It is unreal how good he and many of the team are when you see how young they are and how much potential they have.

On the other point, I think both he and Pinnock are doing this quite a lot. It helps move us up the pitch, even if a bit scary, and shows team confidence. I suspect it might be a tactical thing to help us break presses - there were games at the end of last season where Pinnock had the most passes and possession because opponents were happy for us to have an endless loop of Raya-CB-FB-CB-FB-CB-CB-FB-Raya. Possibly a bit of a sophistication on Wilder’s flying CB role.

An opposition playing a high press will mark our full backs and DHM, as the obvious receivers of the out ball. For us, often, one of the two 8's will drop behind a full back to receive the ball as their marker will stay in their own half. The other option is for a CB to bring the ball out and Mads has been doing more of that as this season progresses. As long as the DHM drops in, there's no problem but there's always the danger of a quick turn-over if we lose the ball. With Ethan and Mads, I'd guess Mads, playing on his 'natural' side, is the best option. Pinnock got forward but lost the ball with wayward passing quite a few times yesterday but he's much better on the left. Jansson is much less comfortable going forward, so his default pass is to the RB, although he does look for Toney coming deeper to receive the ball as well.

He played some lovely balls first half but a couple of stinkers in the second! To be fair, Pinnock did exactly the same and we gave the ball away a lot 2nd half. Tiredness maybe?

Very good and is definitely now one of the best CBs in the championship but we can’t expect him to play every minute for the rest of the season.
