I want to see more from Pontus in these kind of games. The tempo was lacking from the off and particularly at the end we needed to up it but it's difficult when your captain has his pipe and slippers on. There's no urgency from the back. Strange how things have changed but we could really do with a Mepham or Konsa bursting into midfield from defence to open teams like this up.

I kinda agree. The amount of times that there is space in front to be exploited by running into it, but then we just.....pass it sideways to the other CB who has no room in front of him.

The mind boggles.

My Swedish mate says it is reported in local rags that he is on his way to Malmo in January, I reckon he would rather play premier league.

Talk about injury prone!
Didn’t really miss him though. Could do with him available on sat though but happy for him to sit out the odd game with Sorenson in his current form. Only reservation is Pinnock on the right side but he seems to cope ok there..

Isn't he a backup for absent, passionate supporters? Perhaps he's shot. Let's hope we get a couple of games out of him, starting Saturday.

Did he send a pic of the local rag story?

Could hear him shouting above everyone else today. Classic Pontus performance. I did notice at one point they just let him stride 20 yards forward with the ball and I though "why have they done that?".
Then he passed it straight to their player and I remembered "Oh yeah, that's why"
But I think trading his defensive ability for Barbet's diags has worked out pretty well. Great goalline clearance too, if that goes in the game could be very different.

I thought he had a good game for us today. As others have said his passing out sometimes goes array but he gives us that extra bit of experience at the back that we have lacked previously. As captain he has made us more consistent, especially when we need to play a high line. We just look very organised and less liable to panic under pressure. He must be influential to our younger defenders with his leadership and I think we will really miss him if he does go to Malmo.

Looked good I thought too, but at fault for their goal......??......
I thought Dalsgaard and Mbeumo could have done more to cut the cross out to be fair. Thought it was an excellent bit of movement and finish from Solanki. Thought it was a real Captains performance from PJ today. The early goal line clearance was absolutely vital, set the tone for our performance and gave us a foothold in the game.

Like the whole of the team struggled at the start but got to grips with it and we looked really solid second half. Superb clearance off the line! Game changer that one... :sorted:

Thought he actually tried some much more ambitious passing tonight, pinging it into central midfield, more of that please Pontus!

Jansson was the leader but Dalsgaard and Pinnock either side of him were magnificent with application under real pressure.

Have to say prior to his arrival we clearly needed the experience of someone like Pontus.
After that 5th placed finish in our first season, we finished 9th, 10th, 9th and 11th. He joins and it becomes 3rd. May be a coincidence but I feel it is shored up our defence hugely with leadership, confidence and steel.
Then there is this season.

Like the whole of the team struggled at the start.
He made a goal line saving clearance after 50 seconds!

That clearance could be a defining moment for the season. Not only won us 3 points but maybe a few more as things might have been very different otherwise and could have impacted confidence for other games.

yeh I said it was a great clearance but we were caught flat footed as a defence on the whole at the start and got passed through too easily. Pontus said as much after. We got through it though and looked very solid once we were back in the game..

I thought Ethan failed to track Solanke.
Thomas had it right though in his post match interview. Collectively it could have been defended better.
We got ourselves together and defended excellently in the 2nd half 👏

Has undergone ankle surgery, hopefully back for the run in.

Brentford’s Swedish international defender Pontus Jansson has had ankle surgery. The 29-year-old, who captains The Bees from centre half, had the surgery yesterday, Wednesday 13 January, to address an ongoing issue. Pontus has been troubled by an ankle problem for some time and has missed games in recent weeks as a result.

Pontus has played 51 games for Brentford since joining from Leeds United in summer 2019. He also has 27 Sweden caps to his credit and has won five of those since moving to West London. The skipper will now begin a period of rehabilitation with the aim of returning to training and match availability in time for the run-in at the end of the 2020/21 Sky Bet Championship season and the 2020 UEFA European Championship, being played this summer.

Bad news. I think we need to strengthen. If Racic is out, that’s leaves us with three CBS and Goode has been in and out. I know we don’t normally but maybe a loan?

Good luck on the recovery. But I don't fear him missing as much as last season as Sorenson has really grown into a reliable top performer this season

Let’s hope Goode is finally fit and well. If there are doubts about him we are very short of cover although Dalsgaard can always move across.

Yes, last season there was a real difference in results and overall defensive solidity between games he was in and those he missed. This season we’ve been able to defend well with combinations other than jansson & Pinnock. Though it’ll still be a big boost to see him back.

As much as I rate MBS and Pinnock, playing 2 left-footed CBs doesnt fill me with confidence when it comes to playing out.

I think this is a good alternative and makes room to play Roerslev at RB. TBH probably RCB is where Dalsgaard is likely to play out the rest of his career anyway. Even with Pontus out that'll give us a choice of 4 centre backs once Racic is fit.
However this all falls flat on it's face if anything happens to Rico as MBS/Roerslev were probably first choice cover at LB...

PJ will be a great loss on the pitch, but will be a great addition off it.

Not great news but we have survived without him so far so we will continue to do so. Hopefully back by April for the promotion run in 👍

I dont think we should think of a loan, I would much prefer we try and sign another CB that fits our profile but is ready to play in the Championship right now
