Bad news. I think we need to strengthen. If Racic is out, that’s leaves us with three CBS and Goode has been in and out. I know we don’t normally but maybe a loan?
Racic is temporary though isn’t it, hopefully? If so we have four Centre backs plus Dalsgaard as emergency cover which should be sufficient. Ultimately will be down to whether club feel Goode and Racic have no further ongoing fitness and illness issues.

We bought a new right sided CB in the summer. I doubt we've given up on him already. Compared to the cover for left back we are stacked with CB options.

Guess Racic is an option when fit too. Can’t see us bringing anyone in.

Left back and midfield still the priority for me.

ps - he’s very injury prone isn’t he.

Perhaps, Thomas's new friend Mr Mourinho will loan us Toby Alderweireld for the rest of the season, providing Thomas agrees not to cuddle him ![/QUOTE]

A goal kick from Harrow Borough FC
Must be frustrating for PJ. Play a couple, miss several. We’ve history in trying to manage injuries, only going to surgery as the last resort. Obviously it’s now been done in an effort to sort it once and for all. Gives him the chance to return to lead us to the Promised Land, and get back in the Swedish squad. He’s not recently been 1st choice there (injury related?), and these Euros are probably his realistic last chance in a Championship for his country.

Did Pontus not have surgery last year to resolve an ongoing issue? Or am I thinking of someone else.... 🤔

Disappointing news but far better to try to sort it out long term. If Racic isn't going to be available soon I think we need to strengthen. Two left-footed centre backs plus unproven Goode is looking a bit thin to challenge for automatic promotion

It's for the best, there's no point having a 40% attendance player. If the season does get postponed (please no) then this will eat into that time as well. Strategically this is the best time to do it IMO.

With injuries, suspensions, rotation during months of midweek fixtures I believe 6 is about right. 2 playing, 2 as substitutes and 2 resting or injured(hopefully not required)
Blimey are you sure you haven't stolen Magicbees login details  :ROFLMAO: I'd say 6 is a tad excessive if they are all contracted to the club

Now that Roerslev is back we can rely on Dalsgaard to cover at CB if required at times too. Wonder if we had been waiting for that before operating on Jansson.

The 6th would probable be just be making his first few appearances after doing well in the B team. However I dont think we have a B teamer ready yet
With possibly 28+ games still to go this season, I feel having 6 is safer than 5

Agree, the timing was a bit of a coincidence. Are you trying to say the Dofs planned this? Surely not.....

Let's hope Norgaard's 'minor injury' doesn't need surgery too... :(

At least this time around we have cover for Pontus and we look just as comfortable defensively with him out of the side. He can still shout from the bench! Major worry though is it leaves us very light if one of Pinnock and Sorenson get injured and makes rotation in those positions difficult. Hopefully Goode has got over whatever his illness was and can start to show what he's about.. As mentioned above though with Roerslev fit, Dalsgaard can always step inside if need be... Wouldn't be averse to a loan though for the rest of the season to tide us over?

And there is also Racic back from his loan; it might not have gone great at Northampton but he looked fine in the four games I saw him play.

We now have only 6 fit and experienced defenders even if you include Goode in that. Suggestions that Dalsgaard can play CB or Rasmussen LB if necessary doesn't change the need for more bodies

If we want to rotate the back four then we’ve got issues. And if we pick up a suspension or injury then.... You’d assume that we knew this was possible when we let Thompson go out on loan so presumably there’s a plan..

One season-ending injury now in central defence would be quite likely to derail our promotion push. That's not a position we should leave ourselves in

You could say that about 6 or 7 other positions. You could argue the same about Toney, Henry, Janelt, Mbeumo etc etc. What do you propose bringing in 5 new players to sit on the bench if any injuries are picked up? I can tell you it's not going to happen, and won't happen at any other club either. IMO we are well covered with the exception of a couple of positions, where I believe we can make do. I am not against more players coming in but afraid this the reality of the situation.

Best wishes Pontus on your recovery. Hopefully back soon to lead us to the premier league. 🐝.

i'll probably get pelters but i think we should sell him in the summer as he has a year left on his contract come july , he missed 14 or 15 games last season due to injury and before this op he'd missed 6 or 7 games through injury and now most of the rest of the season is a right off.he isn't getting any younger and not going to miraculously become less injury prone and this will be the last summer we can get a decent transfer fee for him.

It’s a difficult one as when he is fit, his presence is invaluable. Although as you say, he has missed a lot of football, especially given his position.

If the club could get a decent fee then I’d agree. If it’s nominal then it might be a worthwhile gamble on his wages for next season.

Anyway. Not my money!

I believe we do currently haver better centre backs but they are both naturally left-side, which I think is a hindrance... but... Pontus brings organisation and motivation that's invaluable under pressure. With promotion the target, I'm sure he'll want to stay and get PL minutes but I really doubt he'll get that many.

Obviously signing Reid as experienced cover is good news. Also pleasing that in the announcement on club website Thomas says Pontus will be out for "at least six weeks". Even if he needs an extra couple of weeks to get match fit that only takes us to end of March. TBH that's better than I was expecting

Even when Jansson returns, it then means we have two right-footed and two left-footed first team centre backs to rotate. Freshness may be a significant factor in the run-in.

Missing his experience and voice at the back. This isnt just off the back of the loss today but its clear to see we are lacking some organisation in the CB area. very weak against balls into the box atm.

I think it's more down to poor decision making, prob due to mental tiredness/lack of sharpness. Dalsgaard and Pinnock have been making more errors than you'd expect normally, there's a few started to creep into Henry's game too. No coincidence that these guys have played the majority of games I feel. It's only really recent games we've started looking like conceding. We'd been pretty solid for a long time even without Pontus. Reading game we defended superbly. I think perhaps today saw us paying the price of two v tough away games in the space of a few days combined with a very fresh and aggressive Barnsley side putting us under pressure from the off. We didn't cope any better with that against Preston with Pontus in the side.
