Good win.

The lineup is getting more settled now, transfer speculation over and new recruits closer to full fitness.

Obvious positives are the performances of Janelt and Toney. Replacing our two best players from last season tonight, you could hardly tell the difference. But also worth mentioning that we saw strong performances from pretty much everyone else too. Much easier for new players to slot in when the core of the side is intact and hitting their levels. Henry, Dasilva, Jensen, Pinnock, Raya all did well. Ghoddos still acclimatising but looks an intelligent player who will do well for us.

I still think we look slightly less stable defensively this season though. Less dominant from crosses. Jansson beaten too easily in the air for the goal. With his apparent injury, I am hoping we can see Goode get some minutes in the next few matches as right-sided centre back. Only other negative was that Fosu looked very rusty when he came on. Hard to see him getting too much game time unless there’s an injury.

All in all a good three points 👍

Would agree with all that, would add that that was a much better game from Dalsgaard. Ghoddos looked like he's got some real quality and Canos and Mads had really good cameos coming on second half. Mads in particular slotted in really well, he's come on so much from a year or so ago.. Could do with a few coming back from injury as we'd have started to have got v stretched if Jensen had been injured. Hopefully, Marcondes, Baptiste and Goode aren't far off.

Dalsgaard really wanted a goal. He looked very sharp going forward and balanced Henry.

Watched it on Sky and thought we looked excellent. First half we broke quickly and with purpose; second half we defended for our lives. Great performances all round. Especially liked Ghoddos when he lost the wall on one occasion - sprinted back and put in a great tackle. Lots of neat passes from him.

Oddity was that Sky to the best of my knowledge didn't mention Janelt until the 82nd minute. That despite all his good work - it was as though they'd lost his name.

I thought a very assured performance of many different parts. Offensively we were excellent in the first half spearheaded by Torpedo Toney who gave a perfect performance of power, work rate and no little skill. Glimpses of class and vision from Ghoddos and Mbeumo looked better than recent outings. The midfield stood up well DaSilva looking imperious at times and fair play to Jensen and new boy Janelt who both never shirked from the midfield battle. Dalsgaard looked much the better for getting forward and Rico really looked every inch a Premiership player in waiting. We stood strong in the second half as Wednesday threw everything but the 'Kitchen Sink' but really didn't unduly trouble Raya which was a testament to how well we saw out the game with Pinnock immense at the heart of our defence. Even the considerable loss of PJ didn't unduly ruffle us. Honourable mentions for Sørensen and Canos in very different but useful cameos. A grafted and immensely satisfying victory.

Almost looked a different player and was it me or did he seem to come inside more as demonstrated by his two shots on goal? Seemed to have a tad more freedom which helped him, maybe he felt Vitaly gives him more cover as can’t see why else that would be the case??

Thought it was more shameful that after Fosu came on the commentator called him Henry at least twice!
His full surname is Fosu-Henry........

(Although I doubt the commentator knows that!)

That was a top performance, we were so much better than them. Great to see Vitaly step up and do what Christian does, well done Phil / Ras for finding him. Last night for me showed we really are back on it and can do even better than last season.

I liked what i saw last night, i sh*t myself when we played out from the back but last night we were so good at it especially 2nd half. Wednesday were not poor as someone said on here, they just could not find a way through, due to the quality defending from our team. I am sure we would not have won this game last season. For me the whole team put a shift in, and for the first time this season our smooth slick pass and move game showed great promise. It’s early days with some good teams in this league, so we have had quite a good start, and we just need to keep improving and make sure we are better than the rest of the pack

The Sheff Wed lot called Pinnock Henry in the replay of their goal...................... Theres only a 2ft difference between them.

You can see how our tactic to sit off at times allows these Northern/Stubborn teams to think they can play out (when in fact they arent that good at it). Then we snatch the ball off them and we're away on the counter.

Should have been 4-1............... Even their goal was very avoidable, RH miles out of position and Pontus was very poorly positioned for the cross and easily out muscled.

Great result last night, Mads has come on a bundle and looks the part. Toney, Henry, Dalsgaard the pick out players for me but good starts for Janault and Ghoddas who will only get better. Games will come thick and fast and it will be the strength of our bench that will determine how we will do over the coming weeks. Will be good to get some midfield players back as would like to rest Jensen, who was not particularly impressive imo.

I would also like to see other players chip in with a few goals as we cannot rely on Toney all the time, he will be a marked man now if not already, and we need other players to step up.

A good start to this campaign, we are truly off and running.

Toney being a marked man will release space for others.

A first Wednesday win against Wednesday and a satisfying result that proved both our strength in depth and our strength of character – the players stayed focused and showed a real determination to win the game our way. That two players made their first starts, one after only couple of weeks with us, also pointed to our recruitment quality.

The Owls started with a 3-5-2-type formation but we were quick to pick open the space behind the wing-backs with Mbeumo looking speedy, Ghoddos making intelligent runs and Toney dancing around bean-pole Flint, leaving their midfield unable to work out what was going on and provide cover. Their two central midfielders then made their contributions to our opening goal as Celtic gnome Bannan waved Dalsgaard through, to take a fierce shot from the edge of their penalty area centrally, and youngster Hunt, oddly in their right back position, played Toney onside for him to respond first to the parried shot... 1-0 to the red socks.

As the opposition came back into the game we were generally in control but their familiar Bannan>Harris>Paterson attempts for once caught Henry (who was otherwise magnificent, my MotM) out and Jansson allowed a free header which was unstoppable, oh dear, 1-1. What was impressive was the keep-ball we played for about 5 minutes to take the momentum out of the game which ended with a corner won. New-boy Janelt, with Jensen standing on guard, whipped a ball to the near post and Ivan parted Moses' hair with a cracking header – 2-1, lead restored in style and an hour to play.

Monk made changes for the second half and further tweaks to try to wrest control of the midfield, going more and more direct and physical as the game progressed. Impressively, Brentford stood firm and continued to use accurate passing into the space behind, with the introduction of Canós and, later, Fosu, while keeping a high line to control the game. A Jansson injury that looked like a tweaked hamstring forced the introduction of "trains like a beast" Sørensen to take more of the battering but a defensive unit with now only one right-footer did all right, even though the bashing continued. Even more impressively, they were kept out as they ran out of ideas in the final minutes.

We have a GTM3 that looks as if it will be more finely-tuned than the BMW. I expect more of the same on Saturday, let's hope for a similar performance and the right result.

I noticed that too. Even made me doubt my own eyes a couple of times. 🤓

Always the sign of a good water carrier.

Hard to believe this was his full debut, considering there is clearly far more to come from him it wasn't a bad start was it. A tough lad capable of the odd tactical foul and some great passing and delivery from set pieces.

Watkins was a marked man too.

They can put two on Toney and he will still batter them out he way.

Don't think "Torpedo Toney" is an easy player to mark!

Also, in defence of Pontus it wasn't so much that he was out muscled by Patterson but skilfully nudged from behind when off balance. One of the dark art skills Ollie was getting good at as he developed last season.

I wondered why he finished up on the floor. Unlike Pontus to be out muscled.

I don’t think we need to worry. We know that Mbeumo, Da Silva, Forss have plenty of goals in them and that over the season Canos, Marcondes, Ghoddos, Fosu will chip in. Dalsgaard could have had two last night.

A very pleasing performance all round, on a number of levels. For the first half movement and fluidity on the break when we always looked dangerous, to the way we defended and ground out the 3 points over the 90 minutes. Really impressive. We would never have put in a second half defensive performance like that 3 or 4 years ago. Lots of very strong performances all over the park, with possible exception of Pontus who continues to look a shadow of what he was for most of last season.

Pontus was caught flat footed and never went for the cross whereas Patterson attacked the ball and brushed past him on his way to head the ball in.Dreadful defending as the sky commentator said and a possible weakness that opponents will look to exploit Lee Johnson added at HT .

Kind of emphasises the need for a big squad when I look at the official website and find out it's only two days and three hours until the next game.

Wednesday were decent which is what makes the win so pleasing. Someone on another thread mentioned that people on this forum always say the other team were toilet when we when. Coventry were pretty poor. We won, and played decently. Wednesday were good. We won, and played really well.

A great performance against probably the best team we’ve played so far.

1st half we were excellent, attacked with intention, created chances, controlled the game. 2nd half Wed got in to it more and we dealt with it well.

Yep usually they refer to him as Fosu to avoid confusion

Agreed. I actually felt after we’d dealt with the first 15 mins of the second half we we never going to lose.

Disagree, it was poor positional from Pontus who had his back to Patterson hence the reason he hit the deck so easily, he never opened his body up.

Its not a weakness to exploit by other opponents, but a lack of concentration from Pontus who should have had his body opened up positional, so he could see who's behind him which he never did, hence the reason he hit the deck so easily.
