Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Don't know what to say. Just stunned.
Known him 35 years. Played fooball with him and against him. Always a highlight of my now infrequesnt visits to GP was having a few beers and a catch up with Tony in The Tap.
Watched the Walsall game with him only 2 weeks ago.
Does anyone know what happened and what are the funeral arrangements ?
Just stunned.

RIP Tony

I'm trying to find out the details of the service. There are several in contact with his close friends, Craig and Eugene, so as soon as I or China or fencer finds out, we'll post on here. Thanks.

'Rossy' RIP

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

What awful news , only found out because i am work today and got email from St George Bee.
What a character, what a fan, always find him at away games in the pub early no matter where we are ( were:sad:)

RIP Tony and sincerest condolences to the family and friends.

At least him and Bernie can run riot up there now.

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Just found out myself. Truly shocking news. Thoughts and best wishes to all his family.

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

This is on behalf of Tony's son Adam -

Can all that wish to swap memories about Tony and the good times, please feel free to come to the Kings Arms by Brentford Station before the Oldham game next Saturday (22nd).

Adam would love to see you all and hear what you have to say

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Was just going to post the same.

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

I have known Tony for many years and I am saddened about his passing.
Tony was a true Brentford fan and his hatred for the mob at the bush was immense, however a secret Tony kept to himself was that when we paid a visit to loftus road to cheer on Ipswich Town we distracted his attention & joined him in the junior Rs supporters club for the following season after they were relegated without his knowledge.
He was sharing a house with another Bees fan and when a letter arrived for him with a Rs badge on the front he went ape.
When he opened it he went berserk as his name and address was going to be printed in their programme next season as a loyel Rs supporter.
A true Brentford legend.

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

I think it would be nice if someone could post a picture of Tony because alot of times you know people but not names, would help the old memory when seeing a photo....RIP

Priceless!
Do any of you on here remember the red tee-shirt he used to wear at Griffin Park, with the words " I'd rather watch Crossroads than QPR" emblazoned on the front?!

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Very sad to hear of the passing of yet another Bee. I think I knew him - am I right in thinking Tony used to help out with the away travel on the coaches back in the 70s/80s? I didn't realise he was "thatchambee". Good luck on the other side Tony and my condolances to your family.

I think you are thinking of Tony Ewers. This Tony was definately not him !

You will know him though. Impossible not to have noticed Tony if you have been going regularly over the last 40 years. One of the great characters of my bees following lifetime. There are few, if any, as passionate as Mr.Ross.

I think another poster is trying to post a picture or two on here.

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Another sad day. Condolences to Adam and family. Some classic stuff from GEOFFBEE and tellboycy though :D

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Trying to post some photos but having trouble logging on from home computer (have emailed Nana)

Still cannot believe this news

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Shocking news, one of the real BFC characters .
Known him for years and a proper Bees stalwart home and away.
RIP Tony

I think I know who we are talking about but cannot be sure but very sad news for someone to die so young.

Me too mate. Which will make it very odd if I walk past the fella I am thinking of at the next home game. It is the tan leather jacket that means I know who we are on about, there surely cannot be two gents the same. Either way it is terribly sad as the guy sounds like a proper legend. Best wishes to all that know him and his family.

Agreed... Sad news indeed if it's the chap I am thing of a picture of his jacket will do as most people will remember him by that.

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Now that I am getting a hold of myself I would like to write a few words

Dear Tony
When Daniel came down the stairs this morning to tell me about your loss I couldn't believe it.
We shared so many great times with Brentford Athletic and watching the Bees it is hard to imagine going to Brentford without you being there.
I think back on some of the great stories, Geoff B reciting that classic penalty miss when you were the only player on the pitch, the wind up with the QPR supporters club and also a memorable Tuesday night trip to Plymouth when we got the announcer to broadcast your engagement to Debbie (a complete lie of course).
But what I will remember you for is being such a great bloke, you took my Daniel into your wings at away games and he looked up to you as the 'messiah of away travel', he always said "wonder what time Tony got here? 9.00?"

I also remember during the last year when things have not been good for me you always asked how I was with general concern, thanks mate.
Supporting Brentford will never be the same

God bless you Tony

Ian

Tony_at_Darlo_2009.jpg

Apologies in advance as quality not great but for some reason I don't seem to have too many of Tony in my (admittedly large) collection of Bees away pics. Here he is, in trademark jacket, with Craig, after final whistle at Darlo in April 2009. But may help to identify him for those who are unsure who Tony was.

"COME ON!".... as he used to say. Just turn that up to level 10.

Let's do it for Tony on Tuesday at B'muff.

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Craig will like that photo he looks slim!
Good shot of Tony, thanks

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

did he use to stand on the left of the Wendy House terracing near New Road?? for a good few seasons

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Yeah. That is him. Bad times yet another massive face you just take for granted. RIP Tony Ross.

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Top bloke had a good laugh with him on serveral away games on the piss RIP

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Yep, that's 'Rossy', in the front and loudest!! A proud supporter of Brentford FC.

Some may have found him loud or rude (at times quite offensive!) or just plain mad!! (as Leah used to say..."mad Tony"... ) He was himself and a lovely fella, when you got him to talk properly without any jokes in between, going to miss the man at GP and on trips to far off places like Darlo, York or closer ones like Southampton. I don't think we'll see another 'tan man' again. A one off.

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Bloody hell, haven't seen that video before. I am the **** right near the start with the top off. A great day for all bees  he looks like he was un angry! :)

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Think i know this man . Couple of incidents spring to mind at Luton and Orient .One chat i had with him was at Liverpool Street i think .Seemed a decent chap .RIP

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Wasn't sure but now I've seen the picture.

Spoke with him on numerous occasions, very sad news RIP Tony

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

I recognise him now....will be sadly missed. RIP

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

thanks for the picture.i did not know Tony personally but as a home and away supporter of the same age as Tony he is instantly recognisable as a character seen at matches covering the forty years i being watching the bees. All teams have supporters who care with a passion about their club.Tony was obviously one of ours. The anecdotes already posted have made me smile and will be bring some comfort to Tonys family.

Sad news indeed. a True Bee.

I have a very vague memory (aided by an elder Bee) of playing in a Brentford Athletic training/ friendly game as a precious teenager making up the numbers, hearing an emphatic "PASS THE *****G BALL!!" (followed with a "well done son" to unmistakably couch what was otherwise a fairly hard-hitting piece of advise) and it was that day, it seemed, I crossed the threshold from boyhood to manhood. It was my wake-up call and a (well intentioned) nugget of wisdom .. that moment has actually stayed with me since (especially when, recently, I found myself saying exactly the same thing recently, albeit less directly, to a team-mate's son who, like me, then, believed they could take on the world.

TR will live long in the nostalgic etchings of West London Sunday League football and Brentford fan culture; if there was a book of anecdotes of such, circa late 70's-80s (?), I'm sure Tony would certainly be in it.

I'm sure there are certain personnel here who could further the thread of wonderful Sunday League anecdotes!

I thought I knew Tony, now the pictures confirm it. A great character. I'm sure he used to stand with the guy who had all the badges on his long red and white scarf. Stood next to them for a few seasons. Gave him a hug a few times when an important goal went in. Remember getting a Brentford book of the 80's Flyer off of him. So sad. My condolences to his family and friends. RIP Tony.

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Nobody could forget his Norman Wisdom impersonation

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

After seeing the picture was in shock, never knew his name or was told and forgot it (drink) but a lovely bloke who always had a word to me and my nephew whenever we met... A true gentleman and whose love for the Bees knew no bounds. RIP Tony.

Now that has really brought a tear to my eye, but thank you, China Bee...
Great memories on here, of this outrageous, but lovable, character.
And, as nightfly has said, Tony was rather 'emphatic' with his views!
Indeed, the anecdotes could probably fill a book...
It really is so hard to accept that he is no longer with us.

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Sincere condolences to his family and friends. Like many others who travelled with the Bees, he was one of the characters and always would exchange words (some very ripe!) and dispense advice whenever I encountered him. He will be missed.

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

While he was manager of Brentford Athletic (before mobiles) I didn't turn up one Sunday morning, I got the full 'hair dryer' down the phone from Mr Very Angry at about six sunday evening, didn't miss another game that season.

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Had Mr Angry down as someone else in my mind, but seeing the picture i recognise tony ross from many bfc games home and away, never spoke to him as i tend to keep myself to myself but very sad news, rip.

Tony Ross (thatchambee) RIP

Having seen that picture I now know who he is.

This is truly shocking news.

RIP mate.

Always had a chat with him in the programme shop at half and full time on my visits to GP.
