xG Table and xG Scorers

Not sure if it warrants its own thread, but here is the xG table courtesy of understat.

We are 6th in the xPoints table (which awards points based on the winner of the xG battle in each game) ahead of Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Ivan Toney is also ahead of Harry Kane on xG so far, and 2nd (to Haaland) overall.

I remember a season when Brighton were down in about 16th, but their xG had them up in the European spots.

It's good to see our xG is being achieved and long may that continue!

No idea where they’re pulling those numbers from. A penalty is worth at least 0.7xG, and so far we’ve had two of them.

If we continue to look at underlying stats these will be the numbers that will be a concern if there is no improvement. With TF it was felt that the performances were better than his initial results and there was no pressure on him. We could see the opposite with KA, where we manage to squeeze out results but the overall performance is the issue.

No but 3 games is quite a small sample and both the clubs below us are on 6 points with positive GD. I’d probably hold out on anything for another 6-7 games.

More seriously, thing we have in common with all those other 5 in the bottom 6 for non penalty xG is big squad change.

Both Sunderland and Arsenal seem to have strengthened substantially. Sunderland have done a good job adjusting to the PL but apart from the gutting nature of Saturday’s late defeat, are also playing relatively conservatively in that transition. Arsenal have upgraded a lot and particularly in attack.

Which is why at most the current xG table shows only how quickly things have clicked in getting new team-mates playing together effectively as an attacking unit. We already knew that we are a work in progress on that front.

Well considering this season we missed a penalty we would have quite high Xg but without scoring with the xg created.

Yes but current XG over a small sample size will be skewed by the fact we’ve had two pens in three games which obviously won’t continue.
