Similar here @bexleybeeI had a soft spot for the US team until this nonsense. Hope they get knocked out
I have a feeling that there will be some shocking refereeing decisions in this game and the USA will go through. Trump and FIFA just don’t care how it looks; they believe they’re beyond punishment.
Asides from Trump continuing to plumb depths previously thought to be unplumbable it really tickles me for some reason that he actually knows who Harry Kane is. Not something I expected at all.Jaw dropping (if not surprising) from today’s Trump press conference:
That wasn't a foul' - Trump
President Donald Trump on his phone call with Gianni Infantino: "I spoke to Gianni... I saw the play. I'm a person that loves sports and was a good athlete. I understand sports really well. Really well. That wasn't a foul. That was two guys running full speed that happened to crash into each other."
‘Referee made a call nobody could believe’
Trump continues: "This referee, who is a little bit suspect. If you check his past, I don't want to say that because I don't like to create controversy, but very suspect... if you like I'll provide you with the past.
"He made a call that nobody could believe. Even people on the other side, they were saying 'we got lucky, wow'."
Red card 'very unfair'
Trump says Balogun is USA's best player, or one of their best players, adding: "He [Balogun] didn't do anything wrong. He's our best player, or one of our best players, and the referee gave him a red card. I didn't know what that meant. I didn't think it meant much.
"Then I started hearing that means he can't play in the next game - at least the next game. If it happened to another player that would have been unfair but when they take your best player or just about - they have some great players - and they say you can't play, that is very unfair."
I asked for a review by Fifa'
Donald Trump: "It's one thing to penalise somebody for the game, but how do you penalise them for a game that hasn't been played yet? It's very unfair, you can't do that.
"Yes, I asked for a review by Fifa. I spoke to a man who is highly respected, who's level of respect has gone up tenfold, and he was good before this started but he really pushed it in this country. I'm the one who got them to do it [bring the World Cup to America]. It was not [Joe] Biden. I got the Olympics and I got the World Cup. We gave a little piece to Canada, a little piece to Mexico, but I got that myself."
They made the right decision'
Trump continues: "All I did was I asked for a review because I didn't think it was a foul. Again, I'm good at this stuff. I didn't think it was a foul. I thought it was two great athletes who crashed into each other and got entangled. That was not a guy punching somebody in the face or anything that would be different.
"If they wouldn't allow a top player, maybe among the best players on the team, to play, I think it would have had a big stain and I related just that feeling. I didn't tell them what to do. I can't tell them what to do. I don't believe he [Infantino] made the decision, I think it was a committee that made the decision, and they made the right decision because number one it wasn't a foul, and you want to see a game with your best players. How would you feel if you took [Lionel] Messi, or [Cristiano] Ronaldo or Harry Kane out? You can't do that. We gotta have our best players and Belgium's got a great team by the way. We gotta have our best and they gotta have their best. And if we win or we lose, it's fair."

'Wow, that's a lot of power'
Trump continues: "I think the referee's call was horrible and nobody talks about that. The referee's decision to red card - I didn't know what the hell a red card was. When I found out I said, 'you gotta be kidding'. This guy just hands out... 'ok, your best player's next going to play next week or in the next game'. I said 'wow, that's a lot of power'. Then I looked at his [the referee's] past, and... it wasn't so great."

When I was 17 my belgian girlfriend's mum offered me cocaine and I was too stunned to take her up on it.
In retrospect that was a miss but hopefully the Belgians don't miss tomorrow and justice is carried out.
Belgian till I die etc
I think FIFA removing the USA may lead to one or two difficulties.Correct me if im wrong, but i thought i saw something in the laws/rules stating that if a countries government/politicians get involved in FIFA rules then they are at risk of being removed from the competition.
Did the president of Nigeria receive a FIFA peace prize from the then FIFA President?Countries have been suspended from FIFA for political interference. Nigeria(?) springs to mind.
Oh yeah, it wont happen, and just gives the Orange one more power to think he can do as he wishes.I think FIFA removing the USA may lead to one or two difficulties.
Well, he's about to issue a $TRUMPWINSWORLDCUP meme coin, so quite possible. What odds can you get on the USA winning the World Cup? Because Trump may make sure it happens.
It was a harsh decision but not the first harsh decision and won’t be the last. Will the king get FIFA to overrule Quansah’s red card? It’s the blatant disregard for the rules in order to favour the USA that stinks so much. Pure corruption.I'll weigh in as a Yank here. The call was poor at best, and it certainly felt like some bias.
That being said, a rule is a rule, and I hate that this happened because when the US wins there will always be an asterisk next to it, distracting from a historic performance (by our standards). I mean that Tillman free kick goal was top shelf.
Sucks all around and I think Balogun should consider not playing.
At the same time, must be said that Ronaldo got to play two matches he shouldn't have too.
Ronaldos was overturned by FIFA.I'll weigh in as a Yank here. The call was poor at best, and it certainly felt like some bias.

It’s difficult to put the onus on Balogun over choosing whether or not to play. It’s a World Cup, he may not be in another.I'll weigh in as a Yank here. The call was poor at best, and it certainly felt like some bias.

I've treid and tried and unless it's pronounced mel-pre-uve it doesn't scan. Good thing the Graduate wasn't set in Brussels...<8 here's to you mrs melpreuve
No, it's if they "get involved" with their national FA. Not FIFA.Correct me if im wrong, but i thought i saw something in the laws/rules stating that if a countries government/politicians get involved in FIFA rules then they are at risk of being removed from the competition.
Ah okNo, it's if they "get involved" with their national FA. Not FIFA.
If you don't think politics and piers Morgan had something to do with that, I've got a bridge to sell ya. I don't think either of them were defensible.Ronaldos was overturned by FIFA.
Not by politcal influence and interference

Dinner at the White House and a dip in the reflecting pool?I don't see what Infantino gets out of this.
I mean, Trump disregarding rules to suit himself is a daily occurrence & we're used to it over here. I have greater contempt for those who go along with it. I don't see what Infantino gets out of this.
Lets be honest, we all know what Infantile is getting out of this....I mean, Trump disregarding rules to suit himself is a daily occurrence & we're used to it over here. I have greater contempt for those who go along with it. I don't see what Infantino gets out of this.

Thay maybe true, the biggest loser is the game itself. If this decision stands as it is now, the game has gone. Trump does not understand that imo. There’s no winner in this whole scenario. On a day that should be the biggest in our country’s history in this sport, there’s a sour taste. Everyone is a loser. No one on any side of the coin deserves the corruption and distraction away from the actual competition.
The only thing us USMNT supporters can do though is back the boys.
