It’s tax years that matter. I suspect he still has to wait until next April before he’s done two full tax years.

Tax years don't matter anymore. You can do partial years in both leaving and arriving tax years. Even if they are consecutive.

I think they are a decent outside bet for going down this year...exodus of players, manager gone, lots of money wasted and now a manager drafted in from the Mickey Mouse Money League.

Absolutely. They're still better odds than we are to finish top 6 which makes complete betting sense. But not necessarily football sense.

Howe is and always has been an average PL manager.

His win rate after he became Newcastle head coach was almost as bad as Steve Bruce. He was then saved by Saudi money being spent and Dan Ashworth being in charge of recruitment.

Newcastle have been one of the biggest spenders in Europe over the last 5 years and have one EFL Cup to show for it.

Once the nepotism kicked in and the recruitment failed, the average manager had nowhere to go.

It’s a shame really as we’d almost certainly have finished above Newcastle if Howe stayed.

Also, that **** Tindall is out of a job I assume?

I could see them finishing 15th or 16th, say, but with the bottom two places likely to be taken up by Hull and Ipswich, they would only need to finish above one other struggler to stay up.

Save your money.

People said similar about West Ham a year ago.

I did say outside bet. It is by no means guaranteed who finishes 18-20th. If it was, predictions would be...predictable.

I was referring there to 2025/26, when Coventry weren't in the Prem.

As for this coming season, it wouldn't greatly surprise me were Cov to go straight back down again.

But while I do they have a better chance of surviving than Ipswich or Hull, I still feel they are one of a handful of clubs at least as likely to go down as Newcastle. Which was my original point. But as ever, I could be entirely wrong, so let's see.

So if I’m correct, only eight managers remain in the Premier League from last season. Quite a stat.

Edit: I think it’s actually nine. Or ten if you count Glasner.

Something few managers ever do
He won a trophy.
Something few English managers ever do.
He had the backing of the fans, while remaining dignified despite the behaviour of some of his players.
I don't remember him coming out after games, blaming refs, etc

Tindall was the perfect, bad cop, no 2 and will be back in a job very soon.

Sir Alex Ferguson's brother Martin was MU's Chief European Scout too, until retiring at the same time as SAF, so it can work.

But you'd have to conceivably prove that they'd deserve a comparable spot on skill in another club of similar'ish statue ... Howe's Nephew never managed to do that

I would see that as a regression. Couldn’t get Bournemouth to the next level and they were relegated from the PL. Flopped at Burnley and (one EFL Cup aside) should really be considered as an underachiever at Newcastle when you look at what they’ve spent.

Plus I think I’d rather stay away than have that **** Tindall anywhere near the GTech.

I had assumed that in the absence of something else very attractive around 2024, the USA job was a comfortable (and extremely well-paid) gig for a couple of years before he got back to where the "real action" is. And subsequently all the more so after a tournament where if anything, his reputation was enhanced. While at 54, he's surely got his best years right ahead of him.

But maybe he enjoys the lifestyle, both him and his family; the (relative) lack of scrutiny; plus the salary? I think I read at the time he was first appointed, that his was the biggest salary of any international manager. And with his job description apparently now being expanded, presumably he's got a pay boost, as well.

So fair play to the guy - of all the big name managers around, I always thought him one of the more likeable,

I dont remember Howe saying or doing anything.
Tindall always took that job.

Maybe a release clause in contract if, sorry when, De Zerbi falls out with the Spurs hierarchy?
