Who owns and runs Brentford FC (June 2026 version)

This is an update from the most recent thread on the subject (here: Who owns and runs Brentford FC? (Superceeded) )

Today Marv Bees (Matthew Vaughan and Claudia Schiffer's investment vehicle) published their Confirmation Statement at Companies House and, boy, are they some secret squirrels around

The overall corporate structure is as below; the major difference being that the Vaughans' assumed investment is much smaller than previously understood.

Today's filing has revealed that Marv Bee has many shareholders, with Matthew and Claudia just retaining overall control. The largest of these is SAS Invesments Pte Ltd, a Singaporean entity whose owner is unknown to the public.

Below is my analysis of Marv Bee Limited's shareholders:

BIA directors remain unchanged since the original thread, and copied here for completeness

BIA Director Profiles

Matthew Benham nominees

Matthew has the right (but not the obligation) to nominate the majority of directors to the board of BIA. These names will be familiar to you all of course. But for completeness:

Jon Varney: CEO of BFC since March 2019 and also now BIA Board Chair. A lifelong Brentford fan and former season ticket holder. He spent nine years at Premiership Rugby managing broadcast revenue, merchandising and key sponsorship deals, then became a founding partner of Pitch International Commercial, working across football, rugby and cricket federations.

Nity Raj: General Counsel and Head of People & Compliance at BFC. He has an executive role responsible for legal, compliance, HR, EDI and safeguarding at the club, and is a trustee of the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust. He trained as a solicitor in the City, then joined AOL :sick:where he eventually became General Counsel, before moving to Smartodds in 2010 :) being introduced by former AOL colleague Phil Whall (a former director of both Smartodds and BrentfordFC, also a long-timer friend of Benham's). Nity has become a core member of Benham's inner circle.

Phil Giles: Director of Football. He has been the architect behind Brentford's data-driven recruitment model. Has been at the club for well over a decade. He was originally appointed Co-Director of Football alongside Rasmus Ankersen in 2015 after Benham restructured the football operation in the wake of Waburtongate. He became sole Director of Football when Ankersen departed. The main man in the football department, still involved in Smartodds and very much Benham's #2.

Cliff Crown: Chairman of Brentford FC since 2013 and the longest-serving member of the board. Qualified chartered accountant (FCA). He joined Matthew Benham at Smartodds as CFO before being appointed to the Brentford board in 2012.

Vaughn/Marv nominees

Sir Matthew Vaughn:
Filmmaker and founder of MARV Studios. He has produced films including Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, and directed Layer Cake, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, and Argylle, as well as co-creating and directing the Kingsman franchise. He says his interest in Brentford dates back 25 years when an actor first suggested it as a club worth investing in. Married to Claudia Schiffer (hence the shared Vaughn surname). The "MARV" in Marv Bee and Marv Studios is an acronym of his full name: Matthew Allard Robert Vaughn. MARV became a minority shareholder in July 2025 and increased their investment in February 2026.

Andrew Redman: CEO of MARV Studios, Vaughn's operational right hand. He previously ran Tornante, the US private investment firm owned by former Disney and Paramount chief Michael Eisner, and served as a director at Portsmouth FC from 2017 until July 2025 when he resigned to take up the MARV CEO role. Based in Los Angeles.

Sir Lucian Grainge CBE: Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group, the world's largest music company. He joined Universal in 1986 to launch PolyGram Music Publishing UK and rose through Polydor and Universal UK before becoming CEO of UMG globally in 2010 and Chairman & CEO in 2011. He has signed and worked with ABBA, Jay Z, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, U2, Rihanna and Amy Winehouse among many others. Billboard named him the most powerful person in the music business on four occasions during the 2010s. Knighted in 2006. As per above, his equity investment via MARV is undisclosed.

This Day nominees

Gary Lubner:
The philanthropist-businessman of the group. He spent 35 years at Belron, the world's leading automotive glass business (parent of Autoglass, Safelite and Carglass), serving as CEO for 22 years, during which time sales grew over seven times to approximately €6 billion, leading to a valuation of €21 billion in 2021. He grew up in Johannesburg in a liberal Jewish family and was actively involved in the anti-apartheid movement. He studied Finance and Accountancy at the University of Cape Town, then completed an MBA at London Business School. Stepped down as Belron CEO in early 2023 and has since focused on philanthropy via his This Day Foundation. A major donor to the Labour Party. The "This Day" in This Day Media & Sports Limited is his vehicle.

Eldon Beinart: The least publicly visible of the directors. He is associated with This Day Capital and studied at the University of Cape Town, the same institution as Lubner, suggesting a longstanding South African connection. He previously had links to Stonewood Capital. Appears to be Lubner's operational representative on the BIA board rather than a principal investor in his own right.

PMBee nominees

Prakash Melwani:
The heavyweight of the newer investor group. He has been a Senior Managing Director at Blackstone since 2003, serving as Global Chief Investment Officer of Blackstone's Private Equity business between 2012 and 2025, and is now Chairman of the firm's International Private Equity business. Before Blackstone he was a founding partner and CIO of Vestar Capital Partners, and prior to that was at The First Boston Corporation and NM Rothschild in Hong Kong and London. He holds a First Class degree in Economics from Cambridge and an MBA with High Distinction from Harvard Business School, where he graduated as a Baker Scholar. The most credentialled financial brain in the room by some distance.

It would appear that there are some compliance misses with Marv Bee Limited....

@Banana
Not wishing to be pedantic, but in Eldon Beinart's profile, it's stated that he's "the least publically visible of the nine directors" - unless my arithmetical skills have been shot to pieces since I retired, I make it that 10 names (in a 4-3-2-1 formation) have been listed, unless one of those named isn't a director?

Pedantry is super-important in these types of threads. So thanks.

I'm on the run this afternoon but will take a look later.

I have fixed this (and future proofed it at the same time) by removing the word "nine". Thanks very much!
