El Hadji Malick Diouf (LB, West Ham, 21)
Sounds more like his agent is trying to get some interest going again after we walked away.
I await Nana confirmation before I jump the gun. Just popped up on my feed so thought to post.Interesting if true. Perhaps we’re moving Rico along with only one year left?
Or alternatively Alex the Crook has made it up, but we shall see…
They paid £20 million for him so will want a lot more and he’s only 21 so plenty of room for development there. Be a good buy if true as Meghoma not a the level I suspect and Rico is prone to injury and as well as KLP has done we need a natural left back with pace.I actually really like him as a player and I think our left back options, while numerous, are none of them that strong by current PL standards. But £40m seems very high. But then we do seem willing to pay high fees so who knows?
If there’s a grain of truth in the rumour and we’re still talking to WHU, I’d imagine the number is entirely made up, like someone at WHU said it in a pub.I actually really like him as a player and I think our left back options, while numerous, are none of them that strong by current PL standards. But £40m seems very high. But then we do seem willing to pay high fees so who knows?
Very different scenarios.Seems a lot of money for a not very good yet LB , how much was MK ?
Not sure he’s not very good. If this is correct the club obviously see him as valuable if they are bidding those figuresSeems a lot of money for a not very good yet LB , how much was MK ?
If we start judging full backs based off of paying £14m for Kayode then everyone on the market would look bad value. That was just an incredible value deal that I’m sure Fiorentina looking back will be livid with themselves for sanctioning.Seems a lot of money for a not very good yet LB , how much was MK ?
Exactly If we are to judge Kayode’s value now we are saying £50 mill upwards so £35-40 mill for Diouf not ridiculous IMOIf we start judging full backs based off of paying £14m for Kayode then everyone on the market would look bad value. That was just an incredible value deal that I’m sure Fiorentina looking back will be livid with themselves for sanctioning.
Think it’s mainly about is needing to strengthen at left backMaybe this is in order to use KLP further forward, more often? Injuries to others have stopped it quite a lot. So makes some sense to strengthen.
In which case, perhaps we've taken money assigned to a new winger (if Schade left?) and are putting it here to get our winger depth (KLP) via a shiny new wing back instead??
I'm inclined to believe this isn't happening however.
Makes a lot of sense to me, if a bit expensive. He’s got an unbelievable engine and cross on him. He’ll play when we are likely to be the dominant side and so wont have to defend as much. And can rotate with Rico in games we have to defend more while also training up his defensive game
I would expect him to play all the time for the numbers mentioned![]()
If you can think of a left back who has sold for £80m anywhere in the world I would be very surprised. I still can't see this deal happening, certainly not for £40m.£40mil for a 21 year old with PL experience, on a long contract (plus our standard 1 year option) seems like decent enough business to me.
I suspect if we are willing to offer that, we see a £80mil+ player in the making. What do they call them......calculated risks.
Let's see what happens, but I'm not against this.
We might. And don't call me Shirley. No way are we paying £40m for a full back…surely!
Cucurella, who would be in the conversation for best LB in the world, just sold again for around £50m. Doesn't really back up your argument.Cucurella went from Brighton to Chelsea for £55m, 4 years ago, so we might not be too far away from seeing an £80m left back. Wether this chap is worth £40m is up to the club. But I’d be excited if we signed him.
No but it helpsWe don't have to sell every player we buy after 2 years for double his transfer fee.
How long was left on his contract? (I don't actually know)Cucurella, who would be in the conversation for best LB in the world, just sold again for around £50m. Doesn't really back up your argument.
When he left Brighton 4 years ago he wasn’t the best left back in the world. I’m not backing up my argument either I’m just saying if ones sold for £55m 4 years ago, it won’t be long before one is sold for £80mCucurella, who would be in the conversation for best LB in the world, just sold again for around £50m. Doesn't really back up your argument.
Think we are talking about tomorrow not yesterday. If you can think of a left back who has sold for £80m anywhere in the world I would be very surprised. I still can't see this deal happening, certainly not for £40m.
Yep it's always nice to make a profitNo but it helps![]()
Lucas Hernandez from Atletico to Bayern in 2019.If you can think of a left back who has sold for £80m anywhere in the world I would be very surprised. I still can't see this deal happening, certainly not for £40m.
With the money they've already made on sales this summer I don't think West Ham have to sell or want to sell. In that scenario there's always a danger of overpaying. This was the scenario when we bought Dango. I rate him but I don't think we got value for him simply because Bournemouth genuinely didn't want to sell.40million is what WHU want but thats doesnt mean thats what we will pay. Which is probably why this is ‘unlikely’, until WHU drop their asking price
I think you're getting your euros and pounds muddled up.Lucas Hernandez from Atletico to Bayern in 2019.
My West Ham supporting colleague says he thinks they genuinely don't want to sell this summer and so it's unlikely the story has been planted by someone on their side (e.g. "tell everyone Brentford are bidding again, to get a real bidder interested").With the money they've already made on sales this summer I don't think West Ham have to sell or want to sell. "Ex WHU" is an agent who used to play for them."Ex WHU" is a club person rather than an agent mouthpiece too. So not really sure where the story has come from.
