A 5-1 defeat at Folkestone Invicta on opening day won't have helped the mood.

W&H are in proper trouble. They've been shafted by Elmbridge BC & Places Leisure, the lease holder of The Hub.
It appears that the step up to National South is too big for them as their small resources & set up can't compete with the many big full time clubs in there.
Hopefully the season isn't a complete disaster and they can somehow turn it around off the field...

I assume they pay rent for the ground?

I dont think they do, or it's peppercorn rent?
They have to pay for all the stewarding and match day costs associated with increased crowds, and receive no bar income at all. Which is the life blood of most non league clubs.

I think other options would be limited even though EBC have offered to "explore" other sites.
A ground-share is expensive and doesn't allow them a bar income.
Can only see a partnership with these Home - Places Leisure working but they are not under pressure to comply are they?

That's correct. Places Leisure are a huge concern with a rumoured annual turnover of circa 800 million. I can't see them being particularly bothered about forging a 'relationship' with W&H.
The fans are already setting up protests and bar boycotts, so hopefully the bad PR might force their hand?

It looks like their surporters will need to put pressure on their local council. Its a shame, having been to watch Walton v Chertsey, a couple of times, from the outside it looked a great set up, good team and friendly local fans. Good parking etc. Their clubs letter raises some very good (but alarming) points. I hope they can find a way forward.
