Will be a shame not to be able to boo him and indeed hiss at him but would be good to get some free money as money is good.
Would imagine if they agree to sell will be for a decent profit so we will receive a nice windfall. However does seem an odd move for him.

It isn't odd if you like yachts!

Ollie Watkins (Al Hilal)

Al Hilal already have Darwin Nunez and Benzema, surely not all 3 can play?
wouldnt be suprised if villa get Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea if they sell Watkins

Ollie Watkins (Al Hilal)

Don’t think there was any sell on clause only add ons which were achieved

That seems very unlikely to me, can't believe we would have failed to include a sell-on. Having said that though I'm not sure if he would go for much more than we got for him at this stage in his career anyway.

Why unlikely not every player we have sold have sell ons and I can’t find anywhere official where it states we have.

For a player who was young with a high potential ceiling that we had developed from a young age? It would have been a bit daft of us not to include one and we're not daft.

Maybe we squeezed more out of Villa by excluding a sell on clause.

Meanwhile, what about training compensation on international transfers? This is being discussed on the Exeter forum.

This provides payments to clubs where the player trained between the ages of 12 and (importantly for Brentford) 23. Ollie joined Brentford at age 21 (and a half).

It seems the total payments are 5% of the international transfer fee (I had thought it was 1%). If right this would mean Exeter get around 4% and Brentford around 1%.

Small beer for Brentford and a sell on clause would be much better but every little helps! Anyone know how this all works in practice?

Cue his head not being in the right place for their game away to Brighton on Sunday.
How close to Isak / Wissa territory is he prepared to go to force the move?

Ollie Watkins (Al Hilal)

Possibly Toney had a word with Watkins during the World Cup.
’You’re getting on a bit now, Ollie, at 30. Come to Saudi and earn a few extra millions for your pension.
I know a man who can make this happen!”.

Player has to be under 23 when transferred for training compensation to apply.

This appears in confirmation when international clearance is granted.

Emerys post match salty words about Ollie a joy. 😁

I think he realised Villa have peaked and he is just not good enough to play for any of the best PL sides. I maintain Villa will really struggle this year. Bottom half.

Can't blame him for wanting that kind of money when offered, but this re-emergence of multi millionaires going on strike to force a move through makes me sick. Forgotten his fairly humble background somewhere along the line.

They go off to Saudi the league takes less out of their bodies allowing them to play beyond 35 earning big money.

I wonder if Ivan had some cosy chats with him, whilst they both weren’t playing for England at the World Cup?

Ollie Watkins (Al Hilal)

He’s doing an Isak!

His last big contract, you can see why he wants to get that bag, can’t blame him.

Ollie Watkins (Al Hilal)

He's not good enough for any of the other "Top 6" in terms of the cost to get him out of Villa so Saudi for one big contract you can see why he wants the move.

Ollie Watkins (Al Hilal)

He’s doing a Wissa.

You certainly can blame him.
Just seems out of character although a tad like Ivan unlike players who break into premier league squads in their late teens / early 20s and therefore amass 10 to 15 years of premier league monies that is not the case with Ollie and suspect his early years salary with Villa were at lower end of their pay spectrum. Hence his pension pot may well not be enough to last him 50 plus years and I don’t see him Going into the management or coaching side of football. He may well be thinking now what is his career outside of football and concluded there isn’t really one and hence go to Saudi for five years and not have to be concerned about answering that question.

Watkins is on £6 million/year so will already be set for life. Don't blame him for wanting big Saudi money though.

I think there's also the realisation that, even if he does get picked for the England squad, he's only going to get on the pitch for 5 minutes so any ambition there has gone.

And Ivan has shown him that playing in Saudi Arabia is not a bar to any remaining England ambitions he may have.

Ollie Watkins (Al Hilal)

Interesting with Watkins. Always thought he was a top bloke and then he had that incident with us a couple of seasons ago which really ruined it. Now looks like by forcing this move, a once considered top bloke will be universally disliked by the fans of his last 2 clubs.
Footballers more and more becoming hired guns focused on earning a living rather than any sense of loyalty…. Probably having seen how clubs treat players over the years happy to kick them into touch when it suits under age to professional level. I suspect this focuses the mind

He's been on good money for nearly ten years and life changing for the last 6. If he's not set for life then he's either been very frivolous or badly advised or both
