Yes, agree with the above, good work by him to run with the ball and set up a great cross leading to to Sheff Utd’s 3rd goal.

Wonder if we have a recall option on him during the season.

Would love to see him progress to become a regular 1st teamer here next season.

Did well for their third goal but I thought he was poor otherwise. His decision making left a lot to be desired, which of course is to be expected for a young and inexperienced player settling into a new club. The positive for us is Sheff Utd’s startling lack of options out wide, he should get lots of minutes

Unless we have another injury crisis, the only reason we’d recall him is if he’s hardly being used, in which case he wouldn’t play anyway.

If a young player is thriving out on loan, the worst thing you can do is bring it to an abrupt halt and just expect him to recreate it in a tougher league and with a new group of players.

Jaidon’s arrival brings even more scope to our attack, so let’s let Romelle find his feet first

Only in transfer windows can loan players be recalled

Not worried yet, but to me he still seems the same player we signed 18 months ago. Hasn't really developed yet.

Seems harsh. 18 months ago he joined and played for the B team for half a season after a season in L1. Then he got promoted to First team and had a few league and cup appearances. That will have given him a grounding in our expectations and how he could fit in. Now he’s getting a full season in the Championship. That seems a fair path for a young player we have hopes for. A lot on here were clamouring for Morgan to get a chance in the PL last season and he’s been sold into L2 Grimsby who Donovan ripped apart in the Carabao game.

Yes, but he's already had eighteen months. And not developed.

Really 🤷

I think he's a better player than when he arrived. He's had some exposure to the 1st team.

His development to 1st team in the Premier league will take time and some development plan would be in place. I think patience is key.

I had the pleasure of a ten minute chat with him at the training ground back in April. My impression of him is that he’s a genuine lad, grounded, humble, willing to learn and happy to be with us. I asked him about the game at Wednesday in the cup, he was good there, I was there that day, and he told me he felt confident and at home in the PL. A season in the championship with a team that will probably be in the shake up at the end of the season will be excellent for him I would think. Good luck to him.

He joined us off the back of a loan from Birmingham to Burton in League One where he spent most of his time on the bench. He has without doubt developed into a far better footballer than the one that arrived here 18 months ago.

Has he? Apart from a few minutes here, and there, I cannot recall ever seeing him play, at least for an extended period.

He played most (?) of the Sheffield Wed cup game last season. He looked lively and dangerous but a couple of final decisions weren’t great.
I think the loan, at a better standard than Burton, will either be good for him or we’ll find out that he’s reached a ceiling I guess

Romelle Donovan (on loan to Sheffield United)

I hope this loan works well for him but he was ridiculously, almost unfairly, over hyped last season.

Wasn’t he just?
It was ridiculous.
He needs to get a good season under his best and he is at the right sort of club to do so (unless the finacial situation has a considerable impact).

I think one of the reasons we haven't got a good recent history of successful 'development loans' is because our first team has had such a whirlwind ten years, and as a club we've developed and improved so much from League One through to the Premiership, that we're actually still just trying to get the academy and development squads up to a standard that can produce players who have a shot at a (now) premier league career.

We only reopened our academy four years ago and we only just got cat 1 status for this season, so if we don't get relegated then we might start to see more promising graduates coming up and going on loans in the next few years, but I think our main priority for the past decade has just been keeping the first team competitive.
Who knows, maybe if Yarmoliuk was less good he would have gone on loan for a year?
Or if Man City and Utds hadn't signed those two academy players years ago then they could have gone out?

Maybe the youth players we sign this summer will be the ones who go on loan next summer etc, etc

a Sheff U fan is in my Gym class.
this was his comment, not from a rose tinted Bees fan!
rise tinted here , he had a couple of good moments and a few bad . He needs a run in the team .I'm not sure he's cut out for EPL , also he tries fancy things that dont come off .Lets see how this season goes .

He played last night and looked very nervous apparently

That surprises me 😮

He's never looked remotely that way before.
I could understand looking over confident at times but nervous 🤷

Perhaps he just wants to impress 👍

Exactly this, lets judge him further into the season.

A precocious talent who has enough ability to make it to the very top. A potential superstar.

Will he make it? Who knows? Many don't for one reason or another.

So how do you develop bright young things like this? Well for a start don't coach out of them the very thing that makes them special. The English game is very good at doing this. His instinct aches to take defenders on and whack it in the top corner. To some extent you have to indulge him because it has the potential to win games you might otherwise lose. That's why I was so keen for him to get a few sub appearances last year in games we were losing.

Yes he needs to learn the tactical side of the game and In particular what to do when we're not in possession. But you also have to swallow hard sometimes and understand that you don't necessarily coach players like this - you just unleash them. There are players who just instinctively know what to do.

Imagine coaching a Pele or a Messi. Who's qualified to do that? He might not be on quite the same level but he's the same type of talent.

He's a talented lad but there's still a lot of the street footballer in him.Flair is great but when and where you use it matters.I hope he gets regular game time and help with that aspect.

That's the bit we need to keep alive in him!

Tough game, big test for him

He did alright. Could’ve done with Seriki passing it to his feet rather than straight out of play on several occasions

Romelle Donovan (on loan to Sheffield United)

Hope he gets a run in the side to help him develop. At the moment has all the tricks and flicks but not much in the way of end product. Early days.
