Rampant Bees stung the Hammers with an emphatic performance, to inflict the hosts first league defeat in two years and to maintain their 100% record as they maintained pole position in the Premier Division.
The match had ‘banana skin’ written all over it and was considered a ‘real six pointer’ by many but the Bees, despite a dodgy spell just after half-time delivered prprobably their best performance in the last few years.
Every part of the Bees clock ticked, and the total football played was a joy to watch as Brentford respected and dismantled a strong Hammersmith side, more used to constantly winning.
The Bees dominated midfield, teased Hammersmith down the flanks and delivered in front of goal.
The lead was taken in the just the seventh minute when a smooth passing move found Ashely Cheatley on the edge of the box who moved forward to fire home.
Ashely Cheatley brace came after 23 minutes and a long Makeba Black throw.
A harsh tackle denied Ashely Cheatley a hatrick within the first thirty minutes when she was brought down in the box and Maddie Phillips made no mistake from the spot to give the Bees a deserved 3-0 lead.
Elisa Dogor in the Hammers goal was kept busy throughout the first half and did very well to keep the Bees score down, mean while at the other end Mae Francis-Pownall had very little to do due to the commanding Brentford defence but when troubled made a fantastic reflex save to stop a close-range strike.
Hammersmith continued their resurgence into the game at the start of the second half when the Bees looked sluggish and the start of the half saw the Hammers pull two goals back.
Rachel Anderson, who had been kept in check all game, had all the time in the world when she broke through to pull a goal back and the host deficit was reduced to one when a Mae Francis-Pownall was punished a sloppy pass.
Mae Francis-Pownall was punished for a sloppy pass by Rachel Anderson whose brace reduced the host deficit to just one.
With the Hammers sensing and the Bees fearing a comeback the game became niggly.
To take the pressure of the Bees defence, forward Wiktoria Kiszkis was reintroduced for substitute Chelsie Berry and the balance of play shifted as Hammersmith were forced to deal again with the Bees more attacking threat.
When the referee awarded the Bees a free kick, a few Bees players were body checked as the Hammers lined up to defend. The referee had to intervene to get two Hammersmith players to step back so that Maddie Phillips could take the kick and there was a sense that they shouldn’t be winding Maddie up.
The referee had to be told that Ashely Cheatley was down and needing treatment and with the Bees down to ten, Maddie Phillips extracted her revenge, by picking the ball up inside the centre circle and unleashing a fierce shot that was destined for top bins the moment it left her boot.
In a pre-planned move, Saskia Reeves-Priestley was introduced to replace Mae Francis-Pownall and immediately gathered a Hammers curling freekick.
A resurgent Ashely Cheatley who is finding life upfront a lot more enjoyable since the Bees reverted to a 3-5-2 formation, punished the Hammersmith after intercepting a sloppy back pass and rounding Elisa Dogor to restore the Bees three goal cushion.
Wiktoria Kiskis supplied the excellent Abbi Smith with ball and Abbi capped off her excellent display with a goal that her performance deserved before the lively Wiktoria Kiskis rounded up the Bees emphatic win after a good move with Chelsie Berry and Katie Gilligan.
The Bees made a statement with this win and were backed by a large away following, many of who were locals and delighted with the skill and flare on offer and who stated their desire to visit the Honeycroft.
The Bees travel to Barking next Sunday, who themselves could be third in the table if the beat Millwall Lionesses in midweek, before taking on Newhaven on 30th September at the Gtech.
