The founder of the Bournemouth NY supporters’ group, Dave Mires, is also the head of CDU Newburgh in the Hudson Valley. … I HAVE to stop into Newburgh Brewing Co. somewhere down the line! Liked that, positive and realistic!

Well, I managed to find the Red Lion in Bleecker Street. What a great pub, just like being in the UK. It had a good vibe, and that was despite Man Utd playing on the TVs, so I can just imagine what it must be like when Brentford play. Brilliant hour or so in there, though unfortunately I was there when there was no Bees game.

Thanks for stopping in! We’re certainly proud to have made this a permanent 🐝 spot for “little” Brentford! 😁🗽

Hi Charlie

Love your newsletter and thanks for the mentions of our podcast - although we could always do with more listeners - and I wonder if you can mention that any American fans who want to come onto the pod and share their Brantford experience need only contact Tim.

New York City Bees

Hi Charlie,
Just listened to the very interesting podcast - Episode 46: Brentford Continues to Ascend.
I can’t believe how well you guys were clued up on the history of our fantastic club.
The one comment I would make regards the period of Ron Noades’ ownership. Maybe I am wrong but I don’t consider his motives to be honourable - as far as I know he set about selling off our best players, those that had a reasonable resale value, also he was intent on selling off our home (Griffin Park).
He was cooking up a ground-share deal with Woking which was a non-league club about 25 miles away from Brentford. In effect he was attempting to milk our club.
The fans did not want to ground-share with Woking - no disrespect to Woking.
In addition, he appointed himself as team manager in July 1998, which was a ridiculous thing to do since he knew very little about team management.

Most importantly he was not gifting money to the club but simply running up the debt.

Here is another piece of Brentford FC history.
A famous person, who was born just 3 days before me in London, once was a member of Brentford’s youth squad. Most people will not know that this person was a promising young footballer but just about everyone with a TV or radio in this world will know of him - Rod Stewart!
I have said for many years now that he and I must have been switched at birth.
😂😂😂

Except it's completely untrue.

Total fallacy that he had anything to do with us
Not so - according to Wikipedia……

Copy/paste doesn’t work too well but it does confirm that R/S had trials at Brentford although he he was never signed by the club.

It's bullshit and he has since admitted to fact that what was in his autobiography was complete invention. It was published before the internet.

If it was in his autobiography but he subsequently admitted that it was not true then that suggests that someone was telling a porky.

I remember being at a game at GP around 55 to 60 years ago - when RS had achieved fame as a pop singer. The discussion amongst the fans near me was about the fact that RS was once at Brentford. Clearly there must have been confusion about whether he was once signed by Brentford or had been a trialist.

However it is not worth debating it anymore!

A symbolic gesture from Brentford that we look forward to each season! Hope NYC’s representing the crest well for you overseas — seeing more groups pop up since our start is incredibly satisfying, as well! 🐝🗽
