Reading (A) 15.09 EFL Cup R3

Hakon
Kayode Ajer Schuster Henry
Hickey Yarmo Damsgaard
Outarra Wilson Anthony

I'd like Fabio come on also some minutes for Milambo (if fit) and Nunes. Also debut for Owen who has been scintilating for the b team

Milambo nowhere near fit yet.

The point is to win the cup tie.
Wilson started the last one and scored the opening goal.

I'm not sure the distance between them is so big. I am excited by Furo and the more chances he gets the more chance we have of him developing as we want. I am not so bothered about giving minutes to a 35yr who won't be here next season and is not necessarily suited to a lone striker role anyway.

Definitely, but I still think most are going too strong on their lineups. They’re nearer the bottom than top of L1, and don’t win cup games at the MadStad, apparently (HNA?).
I’m more worried about more injuries to our CBs and MF, with Chelski due on Friday.

It wasn't too long ago we played a strong team against a pants Gillingham and lost.

We probably will but what's the point? I'd rather give Furo minutes.
Furo will get plenty of minutes in the EFL Trophy.

It’s the season in ages we’ve had a proper back up PL-ready CF, games like this are perfect for him.

KA presser live on Sky now.

Furo injured now anyway as per his thread

How about

Valdi

Kayode Ajer Schuster Diouf

Damsgaard Hickey Yarmo

Outarra Wilson KLP
I think this is probably closer to what we'll see although I would be ok with Frederick starting at CB instead of Ajer.

Reading (A) 15.09 EFL Cup R3

I think we will start with a strong 11 and look to put the game to bed early then give some minutes to others

Far more likely we make 9-11 Changes from Saturday with Chelsea 2 days later.

Already seen that Fredericks will be "involved", so I think that sets the bar on this one. See the young and fringe players get a run out.

Reading (A) 15.09 EFL Cup R3

Tough choice. Key players injured. Big game on Friday but we also desperately want to get through to the next round.

How many changes, who can play twice in 3 days? Who cannot afford to get injured tomorrow?

Don’t envy KA.

26 years this week(ish) [9 September 2000] since we lost 4-0 at Reading with Jamie Curet*n scoring a hat-trick. Know we've had the better of the results against them since but that one still stings for some reason. Nothing novel about wanting us to win, same for every game. However, really, really, really want to win this one.
Of course, 2 wins this week is the target but if the choice was having to lose one match, I'd prefer it was against Chelsea. :sueme:

Many of the players who start tomorrow night wont be starting against Chelsea, so not many (if any at all) will be playing 2 full games in 3 days.

So didn't play yesterday to make sure he's ok for tomorrow and.....he had an operation this morning.

That must have been a hell of an evening last night. What was he doing? Juggling jars of mayonaisse?
That was Fredrick.

I'd rather beat Chelsea and it's not even close

I was in the reading end that day, worked for a firm in Marlow who had a box or regular comps, thought I’d obliterated it from memory but it’s all just come flooding back 😢 😡

I suspect you're in a minority there!

The league cup, especially in the early rounds, is a reserve team competition. Pales into insignificance compared to the vastly more important task against Chelsea.

The club will underscore that by making wholesale changes from Saturdays team.

.... agree... tomorrow night is about nostalgia..for me at least..bit of a laugh remembering bygone days....and nostalgia is way overrated tbf... Friday under the lights against... let's not forget...the world champions.... much more important re the future.... anyway I'm still miffed about Newcastle away in the cup season before last... beat Reading and a point or three against 'youll never sing that' FC... and it will have been a v good week.

It’s on Sky Sports plus. Channel 412 on Sky Q
I think - the channel is now 404 but our game is behind the red button so not recordable. The main match on that channel is Ipswich Arsenal. 412 seems to have been given over to the NFL. I could be wrong but that's what it looks like.

Think we have to have wholesale changes... 3 games in a week vs. Chelsea's 2. In a game of fine margins, that is relatively significant - even at this early stage in the season.

If we don't win 27-0 then I am going to be disappointed

*unless we win 25-0 and the xG is over 30. Of course.

**especially if Cureton is the "guest of honour".

Players that didn’t play the full 90 on the weekend

Hickey - 71
KLP - 60
Yarmoliuk - 60
Anthony - 60
Ouattara - 30
Damsgaard - 30
Diouf - 30
Kayode - 19

Got to be a very solid chance that all of these feature. We can’t and never really do make quite the level of wholesale changes people expect.

We surely can’t rest both Ajer and Schuster so be interesting to see which of them (or if both) start the match.

As we now have only one experienced CB until after the international break, I think it would be mad to expect Ajer to play three games in six days with his injury record. He needs a rest tonight.

Frederick rested from the B Team too. and "likely to be involved" means he starts. You don't plan to sub on defenders.

That means we are relying on a 20 year old with much less experience of men's football, particularly at English intensity, to play those same three games in six days. I'm worried by the time Chelsea comes around JS will be struggling.

I understand the point about KA's injury record but if we have VdB and Collins out and we still can't play Ajer "in case" he gets injured then why have him at all? Why risk him in training, even? Devil's advocate here of course, but we don't have the degree of flexibility right now to rotate CBs out.

If Fredrick is seen as a RB then he could absolutely be subbed on. But yeah.

Donal O'Connor didn't play for the B team on Sunday. He's a CB. He's Irish. Seems right up Andrews' street, that.
