First round of games only - think it happened last year as wellWe're playing Champions League matches on a Thursday now?
Sigh. They don't hate the PL , they are jealous of it.So that's five English teams in the CL, and five victories, incl vs Atletico, Napoli and Porto.
It's little wonder the rest of Europe fears/hates the PL.
Ok, fear/hate/envy.Sigh. They don't hate the PL , they are jealous of it.
Yes when UEFA took more midweeks from the Domestic Competitions they introduced 3 midweeks which were exclusive to one competition onlyWe're playing Champions League matches on a Thursday now?
Ideally this would happen in a season where QPR finish second in the Championship but only the winners get promoted.I wouldn't be surprised if the PL has to reduce to 18 teams soon to accommodate the dangerous situation where the same body (UEFA) is our regulator and also a competitor.
Yes , Perry goodEnjoyed Como’s debut
Rest is Football podcast this week on SCR rules and gets into the EU dimension. Kieran Macguire making it interesting and easier to follow. A good listen. And were mentioned several times.Sigh. They don't hate the PL , they are jealous of it.
The PL did a great job giving any TV rights to overseas broadcasters and therefore capturing a global audience. When Spain, Italy and Germany tried the same thing it was too late. All singaporeans had already decided to buy a Manchester United shirt.
As a consequence the Big 4/5/6 have a massive worldwide commercial income.
What the rest of UEFA is now doing is increasing the scope of European competition in the hope of creating more TV valye for the CL etc. I'm far from convinced that the far east wants to watch mismatched european club matches before the knockout stages. But UEFAs efforts to do so are massively impactful on domestic leagues. Looking back to 1980s European Cup the winners played 9 matches. Now they play 13. That's an extra 4 midweeks gone which impacts the League Cup.

Quite obviously they don't care one jot, and there's nothing the PL/EFL can do about it.Yes when UEFA took more midweeks from the Domestic Competitions they introduced 3 midweeks which were exclusive to one competition only
Obviously setting themselves up for expanding the Group from 8 to 10 matches at the next increase of teams !!
So Week 1 is CL Exclusive
Week 2 is EL Exclusive
And the last week before Xmas is CO Exclusive
Which completely messes up the EFL Cup
But what do they care...

France also relegated 2 extra teams from Ligue Un at same timeQuite obviously they don't care one jot, and there's nothing the PL/EFL can do about it.
Though part reason why UEFA can get away with it is because a lot of other leagues don't have - or don't take seriously - their own version of our League Cup/3rd trophy. For instance, the French league scrapped their Coupe de la Ligue in 2020.
Sunderland player commits a foul and gets a penalty. Sounds familiar.Another penalty for Sunderland...
"Enzo Le Fee goes for the shot but Weslley Patati puts his foot in the way and Le Fee kicks it.
The referee takes a moment before pointing to the spot..."
Why is this noteworthy please?Well....
Portuguese Liga 2 side (yes, basically our Championship) Torreense are playing tonight in the Europa League having qualified winning their FA Cup equivalent, before missing out on promotion to the top league in a play off with Casa Pia, and are away to Lillestrom.
Currently 2-0 up.
You think it isn't? Inane blather is the GPG's fuel! Why is this noteworthy please?
Isn't this a thread on euro matches updates? Why is this noteworthy please?
Fair pointIsn't this a thread on euro matches updates?
Gave a bit of context too. Especially when you see Celtic losing.
Or is this specific to just EPL teams in Europe?
Really?Well done Bournemouth.

Really? Do you honestly think that GPGers are interested in (say) early round games between Far East teams in the Conference LeagueIsn't this a thread on euro matches updates?

Kairat AlmatyI was interested in it.
Also, can you confirm which Far East teams are taking place in this season's European competitions?
Interesting, I didn't know that. Great story for them, will keep an eye on their results. Thanks for sharingWell....

Actually I think the original post was worth reading. But yours made me look the Almight Kairat.......their home ground is further East than Pakistan!Kairat Almaty
Exactly.Actually I think the original post was worth reading. But yours made me look the Almight Kairat.......their home ground is further East than Pakistan!
Would this be good or bad for our European hopes? I can’t recall the various possibilities from last season.Good on Bournemouth. I hope they win it.
It will be a net good due to country coefficient.Would this be good or bad for our European hopes? I can’t recall the various possibilities from last season.
Also I’m assuming that the PL will do sufficiently well in the coefficient so that 5th place gets CL football again.
Either way, no to Bournemouth winning it. Don’t want a direct rival collecting CL cash.
They have an ex-bee playing for them too, 20 points available for the first to name him.....Actually I think the original post was worth reading. But yours made me look the Almight Kairat.......their home ground is further East than Pakistan!
First time I've ever heard Pakistan being referred to as the "Far East". Must be this new map projection the UN have just adopted.Exactly.
It's a lot further East than Leyton Orient!First time I've ever heard Pakistan being referred to as the "Far East". Must be this new map projection the UN have just adopted.
Or Levante, one of the clubs in Valencia. It's a lot further East than Leyton Orient!
Jaakko Oksanen. 20 points to meThey have an ex-bee playing for them too, 20 points available for the first to name him.....
Funny how Banana is grumping around random "far east" teams after ladbroke referenced possibly the most westerly team in the competition![]()
I also think a second tier Portuguese side making it into the Europa League is interesting, FWIW, so thanks for posting.Isn't this a thread on euro matches updates?

Tbf mate.......not really sure Celtic losing is a good example or noteworthy... it's rather commonplace these days.Isn't this a thread on euro matches updates?

OTOH, I hope they get many more games in faraway places before that happens.I'm still bitter about last season, so I hope Sunderland and Bournemouth get knocked out
That's Central Asia.Kairat Almaty
