Manchester City Charged With FFP Breaches

“the Lance Armstrong of Football”*

They will deny it
They will try to hold onto previous titles
Or they will say they did what everyone else was doing
Their supporters will say they are the only ones getting caught and the punishment is unfair

But they cheated on a huge scale
Doping in football on this scale should receive the appropriate unprecedented punishment

*said Rory Jennings - he’s may be right for once this time

I do hope they are found guilty after their appeal. Kicked out of the Premier League.
I wonder how this will effect the crowd size ? Lets see how the plastic supporters handle this. Of course they think their innocent. Good luck with that.
Time will tell.
You should read the book Manchester City ruined my life. It all starts with their playoff final against Gillingham....

I know it was a different jurisdiction but weren't Rangers thrown into non league up in Scotland and had to spend 4 or 5 years working their way back up? How about City into National League North? Just an idea.

Manchester City Charged With FFP Breaches

I read the charges cover the seasons from ‘09/10 through to ‘22/‘23, during which they won the PL 7 times. If reallocated then ManU and Liverpool get 3 each and Arsenal get 1.
Just quoting what’s been said by Stefan Forsan who’s been all over this for years

According to the Wikipedia page on the English football pyramid, the Lancashire & Cheshire Amateur League Division B sits at level 19. Along with a host of reserve and U-21 sides, they could face the wonderfully named King Jonny Castillas in league matches next year.

I think that was the initial 115 charges but after the initial charges it has since gone up to 134 which goes up to the ‘22-‘23 season, at least that’s what the guardian are reporting.

IIRC, and from what I understand from a Scottish friend, the holding company that owned Rangers went into liquidation, and all assets (inlcuding the SFA License) was bought by a new company.

the nearest comparison to what happened to Rangers, beyond the initial punishment, is probably Leeds following administration back in 07

I've been listening to talk sport all this afternoon, and Citeh fans think the Premier league would be woeful without them, as they're the best team ever, deluded fcktards! Blackburn and Man United were far more attractive and exciting league champions.

I couldn't give a toss of Citeh were relegated!
£500 million fine, to be divided between all the other clubs that have been in the Premier league when these breaches took place.
Five year transfer ban
100 points deduction
and a £1000 fine for every empty seat in the home end.

Well let's see what the authorities are made of. No technicalities, no bull. This was plain and simple cheating on a multi million, even billion pound scale.

No doubt the appeal will go in, but this has already gone on for nearly 4 years to find them guilty of 114 charges. It cannot be allowed to drag on for more than a few weeks after this ridiculous length of time.

Given points deductions in the past for far less to others, let's see if they are prepared to relegate one of the big boys. It's the only suitable sanction and although I still think they might get off with far less, this time, the authorities might just have to act, given what the other clubs will threaten if they don't.

Cheats must not prosper, or they (and others) will do it all over again.

Different scenario.
Rangers folded and the phoenix club began life in the lowest pro league and not non league (Lowland League).

I'm hoping significant threats from the other PL clubs will force the right punishment
Regardless of threats from other clubs, it would be a disastrous humiliation for the PL if Man City don't end up having at least one relegation as a result of all this

I'm wondering whether there is anything in the EPL rules that disallows clubs suing another member.

The issue with this is it's going to go on and on. Appeals from over the place agasint City. It's going to be all we talk about for months.

The ramifications of this are massive.
They should be, it makes the Premier League look bad, English football look bad, broadcasters selling this “product” look bad, country look bad because this one of our big cultural assets and sectors, UEFA look bad. Sports investing stuff, sovereign wealth funds etc look bad. Maybe not all completely deserved who will end up stinking of this, but yeah.

Shame, shame on us

Manchester City Charged With FFP Breaches

Er, we don't even know what the charges are, let alone the tribunal's findings

City deserve a 114 point deduction. One point lost for every breach, relegation to the National League North, plus stripped of European qualification this season, which means we could replace them, and also have a very good chance of fighting for the PL top spot!

What’s not to like!

I have so many questions.
Was City reporting wages to the treasury in the same manner they were reporting it to the Premier League? If so, how is it legal to underpay in the UK and subsidize an employee in another taxing jurisdiction. Why would you not be obligated to report money paid to an agent?
City was inflating their profitability to avoid EPL profit and loss rules. Were they using these same profit and loss reports to obtain financing, insurance, or as due diligence for any other contract. If so that's criminal fraud.
I think I could do this for a while, but why doesn't all this subject the people running the club to criminal prosecution.

Based off an average of 4 points deducted per breach for Everton (6 and 2 for 2 breaches), let's say they're guilty on all 115 charges, deduct 460 points now and that can keep going as they keep falling down the leagues.

Let's say they get 80 points this season, they start next season with -380 points in the championship.

Championship they get 100 points , they start league one on -280 points

League one they get 100 points, they start league two on -180 points

League two they get 100 points, they start the Nartional league on -80 points

National league they get 100 points, they end the league relegated with 20 points

National league North, they start the season fresh with a nice 0 points.

6 years of humiliation, then another 6 to get back up to the premier league.

12 years to get back up, and thats generous as they've been cheating for 17 years.... i'd say lenient but ultimately fair.

Let's see it happen.

Pretty damn sure City Football Club made him aware of likely outcome and allowed him to leave on amicable terms with neither party wanted him to be party to it all. Actually smart all round on their part.

How much bottle does the EPL have ?? Retrospective Acton regarding titles opens a massive can of worms with other clubs moving up a place in the league and therefore entitled to more funds: equally any club relegated will want compensation as will their players. Presumably those clubs that benefited from transfer income from City will also face some redress

The Lawyers will be creaming themselves at the potentials here and I doubt the EPL will want to let the legal dogs lose as the additional damage it will do to their “ product” is incalculable and I have no doubt if anything goes to Court City will try and get everyone investigated

I reckon City will be looking at a massive fine and a transfer embargo. There will be a substantial points deduction but this will be delayed based on their activity going forward and I imagine this story will continue for a while yet

Didn’t Juventus get nailed and they were. A pretty big deal in Italy

More than 80 of the charges relate directly to City’s explicit regulatory obligation to act in the "utmost good faith".

To me, there’s a simple question the independent judges will have in mind when they contemplate their sanctions: “Other than match fixing, could a club have done anything worse - and for a very extended period”? Answer: No.

Which means they’ll have to issue the harshest penalty that can be legally defended, given that it has been acknowledged before that the City Chairman “would rather spend 30 million on the 50 best lawyers in the world to sue [the regulator] for the next 10 years.” City will appeal, then the negotiations will start… but, sadly, it’s unlikely to impact the number of CL places this season 😂

If I’ve read it correctly these charges go back as far as 2013. This was going on right through his leadership. He might be wrong if he thought walking away at the end of last season would magically decouple himself from all this.
