Final Score Brentford 1 (KLP) Liverpool 2

Brentford 1 (KLP) Liverpool 2

We weren’t at our fluid best but I thought we were the better team first half.

Yarmo gave the VAR and the ref a decision to make and as much as it’s soft it was stupid of him.

Even so we battled hard. We didn’t fold like they did vs City the week before, even with 9, which says a lot to me.

Munoz, MacAllister and Jacquet should be ashamed of their antics, but I’m sure they see it as part of the game and the ends justifying the means.

The former I thought had a career ending injury in the first half given the time down writhing and thumping the turf with even their ‘keeper coming to see how he was.

An amazing recovery made to then score later on.

Seems like teams have worked out how to combat our supposed physical approach - throw themselves to the floor and let the referees work their magic. The last two games have been ludicrous.

Exactly this.
And as the refs get worse, the cheating increases.

When was the last time Brentford had a ref lean towards the home side? Them ****s did grappling that would make an UFC fighter jealous non stop and none was giving as in proper bear hugs
As Gee Bee says above, we’ve acquired a reputation of being a physical side, so we’re seen as being big and ugly enough to take the knocks and shrug off the grapples without the ref getting his cards out too often. Whether or not that reputation is true in comparison to other sides, we do give as good as we get, just watch how many times Kris manhandles his opposition, and it’s not long since we were all cheering Kev for dumping Barco on his arse. Of course we moan when teams do it to us, because it’s our job to defend our own, but let’s be real, it’s a physical, contact sport.

Referee ultimately followed the instruction of VAR on both major calls and they were both right

No pen for them, but yes red card for us.

A few soft yellows for us but nothing game changing that he got wrong in terms of decisions.

We win that game 11v11. Probably earned a draw given the performance with 10 men too but not to be.
Or you could say the ref missed both, made the wrong decision in both cases.

It really is as simple as that. Ordinarily I’d be spitting blood, but we were so good and Brooks was so laughably incompetent that you can only kick the cat and have another beer. I hate to think how Keith must feel after witnessing that nonsense… other than proud. We are a bloody good side, and if Igor can just get a lucky goal to restore confidence there’s no limit to what we can achieve.

VAR doesn't give instructions or make decisions, it merely advises the ref to take another look.
The fact that refs almost always change their decision is a different issue (for a different thread).

Brentford 1 (KLP) Liverpool 2

How frustrating was that. Red card for Yarmo changed the game. 11v11 we win that. Foolish he reacted and gave the ref a decision to make. But can rarely recall a ref so inconsistent and seemingly favouring one team over the other than Brookes display today. We have our all and for a few moments I thought we might grab a late late leveller. Two CM’s missing next match so I guess Sangare starts again.

Their overturned penalty. It's clear that he didn't see it well enough. He had two choices - not give a penalty and ask VAR to check or give a penalty. It is baffling that he chose the latter when he couldn't have been sure.

Watched live on (legal!) super sport / DSTV here in RSA where the commentators are pretty neutral

Think the penalty decision was spot on to overturn.

And Yarm gave the ref no choice.

Didn't see Janelt 's bookings / red as went for a glass of savvy b at the Yacht Club.

Brilliant to get to mid October without previously losing.

Onwards and upwards - COYB.

Thought that was a pretty impressive performance today, to stay competitive with one of the top sides with ten men for a whole half (and then nine). Feel confident we would have seen them off with all eleven on the field.

Some very good performances from the starters, most notably KLP, Kayode, Janelt and Anthony imo. And then Dams, Sangaré and Schade were superb off the bench.

Not quite sure to what extent the referee was complicit in our downfall, but I would question the initial yellow for Vitaly. Of course, I don’t know exactly what came out of his gob, but when you think of what McGinn got away with as captain of Aston Villa last week, you wonder if the threshold for sanction might be slightly different for the German skipper of a “lesser” club.

Just watched that red card over and over, nope, not for me. No headbutt, no contact, just a puffing of the chest

Wouldn’t be surprised if it is overturned

No chance, we won’t even appeal

Look at Gabriel’s head butt on Harlaand.

What, with Yarmo already holding up hs hands?

Bitter one to take.
Red card changed it completely. Live I saw it and looked like nothing but Yarmouth is silly. With VAR, it's hard to get away with things.
At least we didn't go out at a whimper. Can't dwell on it. There's a long way to go.

Great spirit to play like we did when down to 10.
Contrast that to Liverpool's "declaration" under the same circumstances last week. I thought they were an embarrassment at the time, and look even more so after our efforts and their antics today.
Plus wasting time at 2-1 up against 10, then 9 men.
Pathetic.

Brentford 1 (KLP) Liverpool 2

What happened before they scored their first?I thought their weasley little right back received treatment on the pitch, but he didn’t have to go off. He then made a miraculous recovery to score moments later.
Schade got booked for it so the "injured" player didn't need to leave the pitch.

Brentford 1 (KLP) Liverpool 2

Thought the lads did their best under difficult circumstances in the second half, in the first half we looked dangerous.
IT needs to be dropped, pointless having a striker that doesn't score.

They have just displaced every other team on my hate list including Fulham. Overpaid cheating scum

... just seen Yarmoliuks response to his sending off.....BFC should be ashamed... cowards.

I can't remember the last time I've felt so down and in a low mood after a defeat. This has hit me badly.

Bore off. You have f*** all positive to say about us. Ever.
Ever? You know my message history is available right?

Maybe I was a bit off on my Schade assessment, but other than that is hard not to be completely pissed off when we got our chances to win today taken away by a complete lack of self control from one of our players.

Brentford 1 (KLP) Liverpool 2

Amazing that very few have picked up on Jacquets part in the red card.
Regardless whether you think it was or wasnt, the contact from Yarmos head was VERY minimal, so why did Jacquet stay down, prone like he had actually died, for over a minute?
Theres embarrassing, then there is whatever s*it that was from the cheat.
What he did prior to YY's reaction is a punishable offence, looking at player, not the ball - refs supposedly cracking down on this at free kicks, corners etc, but not in this instance. VAR should have included that and smarmy Van Dicks antics. If it had both would have got yellows.

Reminds me of the home game and how Connor Bradley was not sent off for what looked like a studs scrape on Toney. Toney made no fuss over it, nor when Robertson challenged him for an aerial ball in the area which may have been a foul.

Its hard to say what the issue is around referee decision making.

For instance, we benefited from VAR overturning the penalty because Outtara was deemed to get a touch.

I think exaggerating injuries should be booked for simulation if possible. But how could referees tell?

If Jensen had a bit more composure in front of goal it could have been at least 2-0 at half time. We had good opportunities before the sending off. We need to take them. Overall we played football to a better standard than Liverpool. I don't want to see us playing like them. Bill Shankly will be kicking lumps out of St. John.

Think that would have been ruled out for a foul on the keeper.

In that case Munoz would be f*cked after going down like he died after a gentle shoving match with Schade

Jensens was given as a phantom foul against the keeper

Barcola would only have needed half the amount of composure for them to have been 1 up though....

Didn’t post straight after the game but after calming down and more reflection - I don’t understand the rave reviews about Iraola and Liverpool.

Slow, lacking energy, a very expensive strike force that can’t deliver. Munoz was excellent the whole game, and their goals well taken but the rest of that team didn’t put in a shift. It might all click for them but at the moment they look a bottom half side to me and I am gutted we didn’t get the chance to beat them
