I’m pretty sure I read something after the end of last season whereby they were going to put a stop to all the argy bargy in the penalty area before the corner is taken. I can’t see any change at all, in fact Liverpool yesterday took it to another level!
They seem utterly incapable of following through on how they say laws are going to change or be interpreted. IMO, the biggest positive change they could make would be retrospective punishment for obvious cheating, by which I mean retrospective yellow and red cards. They have all the tools with VAR to do this during the match but don't use them.

You've overlooked the fact that none of that applies to "Big" clubs.

Yehor Yarmoliuk

He's a young lad who made an error. We take on youngsters and develop them. The coaches will not need to tell him that he needs to control his emotions when under stress. I don't see this as an issue, but his sending off did make our task so much more difficult.

Yehor Yarmoliuk

If it was John McGinn last week against us we would’ve wanted a red. Would he have got one, of course not.

You can’t lose all perspective just because it’s our player and the Liverpool guy was on the wind up.

Yehor Yarmoliuk

....have you actually seen what happened....he was defending himself from what he thought was an imminent attack from Jacquet...if BFC don't appeal this imo opinion THEY and not Jacquet are the cowards..... roll over FC.

FREEDOM!

Yehor Yarmoliuk

100% a head but watching the MOTD angle.

Doesn’t have to hit the oppo on the face, Zidane anyone?

The ref is not seeing the incident in perspective. YY gets red sure. But he should have taken action in the build up, or minimum yellow carded Jacquet for his offence too.

Yehor Yarmoliuk

Yep, and I keep seeing about how we take the next step, and how f***ing ridiculous is it, that for us to make the next step, we need to up our sh*thousing and cheating ! This league is so f***ed
Unfortunately, I think that if we start doing that, we will end up with more yellow cards for simulation than our opponents ever will.

Yehor Yarmoliuk

Completely agree. The idea that because a referee (or the VAR) is deemed to have seen an incident means that no further action can be taken later on is a nonsense.

Jacquet cheated yesterday and should be retrospectively punished for it.

Similarly, VAR errors should lead to corrective retrospective action. John Brooks decided that Gabriel deliberately head butting Haaland didn’t merit a review. This was wrong and once established it was wrong the appropriate course is a 3 match ban for violent conduct.

Yehor Yarmoliuk

This is where football ties itself in knots.

It plays absolute letter of the law in a few scenarios and then completely ignores its own rules for most of the game.

It should be letter of the law for everything or it should be common sense applied for everything.

Common sense shows basically nothing happened (and so, if anything, the Liverpool player who play acted should have been booked, and the game then continues! there’s even a slight pause whilst he thinks and decides to do it!).

Yehor Yarmoliuk

Just read Yehors long statement about it -must admit he made an old man close to tears

Yehor Yarmoliuk

If you’ve got a ex player in the Var room all day they are saying just have a word with the pair of them.

I couldn't attend the game but on the stream I watched Steve Mcmanaman and Joe Cole reviewed the incident during half time break, they understood why a red was given but felt it was harsh, both agreed that correct course of action should have been a yellow card for both players.

If it's the one I'm thinking off, it's completely false. The only comment from Yehor was his insta update.

There's a new Twitter fad of accounts posting long made up quotes. There's a Keith Andrews one from the same account which is b***ocks too. In Yehor's case, I doubt he knows enough English to make a statement that long.

His first mistake was he didn’t go down like wardley when he got shoulder barged by Jaqcuet

Naive play by YY

On the one hand we are giving Jacquet grief and on the other suggesting Yarmo should have been more cute...

He made a stupid error and gave VAR a decision when we were in the ascendancy, but he's not the first and won't be the last player. He's got plenty of credit in the bank as long as he learns from it.

Particular shame at that time in the game as felt we would have come away with all 3 points especially given our subs bench.

The referees should have the guts to conclude that notwithstanding any red card, that was an obvious simulation with intent to deceive the match officials.

He went down like he’d been caught by a sniper. Cheating pure and simple
Yarmo never touched him.Send Jacquet to me,I will show him what a headbutt really feels like.Trust me he won't get up.

Yehor Yarmoliuk

I agree with your interpretation of the rules but you need to establish contact before you can determine whether it was negligible.

This was the announcement of the referee:

REF: “After review, the Brentford No.6 commits a headbutting action. The final decision is a red card”.

The ref does not say there was a headbutt. Only there was a head butting action. The latter is not a violent conduct offence.
If you indicate that you were trying to head a ball you use a 'headbutting' action too. Will Brooks send people off for that too?

Yehor Yarmoliuk

Anyone notice the left back for them yesterday and his throws especially second half.

Both feet off the ground!!!!

Outstanding from the lino 🙄

I’m saying if you don’t think it’s a penalty your Brentford bias is warping reality and there’s no point discussing. He pushed his head into him with force. It was stupid and ruined the game for us
Force.🤣🤣🤣 If you think that was force.🤣🤣🤣

As with just about everything else during the game the underlying problem re the sending off was the ref's failure to do his job when Jacquet behaved like a thug.

Yehor Yarmoliuk

Will he miss the Sunderland game?or is it just league games he’s banned for

Yehor Yarmoliuk

... it's funny bordering on sad...but some of you lot on here were making comparisons with this young fella and Terry Hurlock but a few days ago... Hurlock was an animal...a thug...he wasn't hard FFS...he was a coward....I saw him getting sent off for Rangers v Celtic at Parkhead...he wasn't a footballer FFS...he just kicked other players....a spoiler at best perhaps...you want to compare YY with Hurlock after what's happened today.... right you are.
Can’t believe I have just read that.

Yehor Yarmoliuk

I was saying that as well! Looked like a basketball throw.
They’re so busy counting to 5 the ref and assistants are not spotting foul throws. Watched the end of the Everton Chelsea game and pretty much ever throw Chelsea took on the right Acheapong lifted his foot

Incredible amount of deflecting going on here. Make all the excuses you want but the underlying problem was YY allowing himself to be goaded into headbutting someone.

The point is, Yarmoliuk probably wouldn't have done what he did if the ref had done his job. That's not condoning Yarmoliuk's action.

Another disaster of a rule. It seems you can take as long as you like to get to the ball, take a few seconds more to prepare then you get the visual cue and end up throwing on 1. Nobody is going to get pulled up when it's that easy to manipulate.

Read what Andrews and Yarmoliuk said about this incident and you'll realise that isn't the point. Neither mentioned the actions or lack of actions of Jacquet or the ref. Andrews specifically said it's not about the officials it's about our player. Yarmoliuk took full responsibility. If only more supporters, and managers and players at other clubs, were similarly honest when they're in the wrong

I would like to see a separate timekeeper with a stopwatch giving the paying public 90 minutes of football. The argument against is games with last much longer but Sky etc., who run the game , will pressure the officials into cutting down on time wasting because it will mess with the programming schedules.

Refs are not able to stop it unless they stand in the 6 yard box with the players. It happens multiple times in nearly every game, they stop the action and speak to players but it continues immediately after they walk away.

It's up to VAR to spot it and point it out but we know that the VAR officials are often less than perfect as well so it comes down to the players self control and Yarmo had a brain fart.He didn't really make much contact but honestly if it had happened to one of ours,we'd be baying for blood.

Fans have helped bring us to this point in football by buying into all the cheating that goes on even though they know that most of the time it's all pretend WWE BS.

I regularly see the opposition players and our players over exaggerate how hurt they are and i get just as angry when we do it,it is ruining football.

Keith always makes the point of not commenting on things out of his control eg. incompetent officials. Yehor followed the same policy. Fortunately the paying public don't have to follow that policy and can call out cheating and inept officials.

Ok. I will say it. I f***ing hate sh*t housery from anyone and was embarrsed with us at Wolves in our first premier league season as an example.

Just play the f***ing game. Thats what fans want to see. This is why we have VAR and there is so much pressure on refs and it has ruined the game.

The players who are doing this need to be held accountable but that train has left the station a long time ago.

As long as football has such a large amoint of money in it, we will never see matches played purely on sporting merit and it f***ing sucks.

Yehor Yarmoliuk

This 100%. Looking at man not ball as Jacquet did is a punishable offence. You can see YY appealing to the ref, who did nothing. Rrfs are expressly instructed to crack down on this this season, Brooks did nothing. YY gets a red all day long, but Jacquet and possibly VD should gave got yellows too. Ref just views a VAR snip that provides no context.

The only problem is when we play "big clubs" the refs are always on their side to begin with, so its a bit pointless

I do not consider that what KA said, or did not say changes the situation a smidgeon. It is not for Andrews to comment on the referees actions, or lack of action indeed it would be unwise to do so. We have all watched the incident, many of us both live, and several times on TV, and can make up our own minds. We do not have the restriction that YY & KA have. The referee is supposed to be both even handed, and to ensure that football is provided within the rules for the benefit of those watching. In my opinion he did neither. Liverpool players with their backs to the ball facing our players, and intent on mischief has no place in open free flowing football.
He should have intervened earlier to break up the scrum prior to it getting out of hand. By not doing so he was culpable in the YY event, and Yarmoluk paid the price, as will the team later having to manage without him in future games.

Another feature of Howard Webb's appalling leadership of PGMOL (or whatever it is called now) is this issue of impact. As I understand it the headbutt (violent conduct) rule includes the sub-clause "excessive force or brutality".

In addition on free kick interpretation we have seen KLP denied a penalty a season or two ago (v Newcastle?) as he was pulled back in the area : insufficient force they said. Yet touch any full back facing their own goal and they fall over it is a free kick. Something Brooks was wholly inconsistent with yesterday.

How on earth Fernandes' kicking of Foden on the floor or Rice lashing out two weeks ago aren't red cards ("it is more petulant than violent. To be violent conduct, it has to have excessive force or brutality." said Webb) yet Yarmo's is deemed excessive force or brutality when Brooks called it a "headbutting action"?

I get he was daft to bite (or did Araujo push Yarmo into Jacqet as footage suggests? ) as Foden was, but "excessive force or brutality"? I don't see it.

Webb has allowed a complete lack of consistency to infect the refereeing.

This isn’t quite correct. There is a lower threshold when contact is with the head.

As per Law 12:

In addition, a player who, when not challenging for the ball, deliberately strikes an opponent or any other person on the head or face with the hand or arm, is guilty of violent conduct unless the force used was negligible.

Once any contact is made, the only thing that prevents a red is if the force is negligible.

The strongest arguments for Yarmo are 1) no evidence of contact and alternatively 2) any force was negligible.

If I’m BFC, I’d seriously be considering an appeal.

I saw that but the section you quote references "...with the hand or arm...". Not the head.

Keith Andrews' post match reaction pretty much rules out any chance of a successful appeal.

I don't think so. He calls it as he sees it and there is no defence of what Yarmo did. Both Keith and Yarmo's words after the game make that crystal clear, even though you and a few others maintain he shouldn't have seen red.

Keith will criticise the officiating if he really feels the need. Look back at his comments after the Sunderland game. I recall when Man C did us last season he called out the poor officiating there as well.

I'm not holding out Brooks to be a brilliant ref - far from it. But he had no choice but to send him off, nor Janelt later on. Keith knows this - if he felt it was unjust, he would have said so, as per the examples above.
