Something needed changing in midfield after Yates came on. Keith's choice of change probably wouldn't have been mine either, but he got it right.Tidy game, surprised he was subbed.
I thought he’s settling in well, and made some immense blocks and tackles today. Then Hickey came on, and added another layer to midfield.Faded second half but he won a ridiculous amount of balls in the first half. Comfortably our best player in that half.
.... and one day, a ball breaking to him on the edge of the box is going to go in.He is going to be a very good player for us![]()
Quite excited with him sitting on the edge of the penalty box before a corner, ready to volley any knockdowns which do come back to him. He does like to hit it first time, and boy does he hit it hard...!.... and one day, a ball breaking to him on the edge of the box is going to go in.
He’s got excellent technique and has only been small margins from a number of spectacular goals this season. A bit like when Bryan was constantly hitting the post, when Sangare gets this right, he’ll add plenty of goals too.Quite excited with him sitting on the edge of the penalty box before a corner, ready to volley any knockdowns which do come back to him. I'm not sure that's strictly true. It's semantics but we've not really used a 4-3-3 even during Frank's later seasons. 4-2-3-1 (or any other nominal formation) doesn't mean you stick to it religiously and, certainly, one of the holding pair can roam forward knowing one will stay back. Lewis-Potter is free to roam anywhere but still the left holding player will drop wider to cover his adventures but that should mean the player to his right will cover centrally... Keith likes chaos!
Everything I see from this man reinforces my belief that he is the best midfielder on this team. I think we are in a great position with a deep midfield group to be able to limit his minutes and balance the group. With that said, I think we are a better team overall when he's on the pitch for 90 minutes. Being able to balance Janelt, Yarmoliuk and Sangare to keep them all fairly fresh will help us stay strong all season.
Tough match coming up this weekend, a player with his ability to pass through teams and break up plays is going to be essential.
As I inferred, individual players and game phases make any kind of nominal formation a bit difficult to present in a simple diagram. There'll be game phases where we're in many different patterns but 4-2-3-1 is the easiest to use to understand what we do... mainly that we don't play with conventional wingers... except when Anthony is playing!I'm not sure that's strictly true.
Three in the PL, not sure about the cup competitionsHow many complete ninety minutes has he completed in a Bees shirt?
Almost irrelevant now. With 5 subs and a stacked bench the only spots likely to play the full 90 regularly are the 2 x CB, plus Kelleher and Thiago. How many complete ninety minutes has he completed in a Bees shirt?
Particularly with midfielders, some of whom seem to be told to burn themselves out and get replaced for the latter stages of a game.Almost irrelevant now. With 5 subs and a stacked bench the only spots likely to play the full 90 regularly are the 2 x CB, plus Kelleher and Thiago.

Sorry for creating the argument, didn't mean it quite in this context. I just meant to say I think we are a better team when he is on the pitchPHG_Bee brought up the 90 minutes not me!

Jensen seems to cover across more, and drop into those spaces just on the left, similar to where he used to play when we definitely played 4-3-3 with Norgaard, JDS, and Jensen. When Dams plays, it's definitely 4-2-3-1, but the heatmap on Sofascore also suggests it was more of a 433 against Forest. https://www.sofascore.com/football/match/brentford-nottingham-forest/osab#id:16363903
Hull was a very clear 4231, with Jensen high. Hull City vs Brentford live score, H2H and lineups | Sofascore
On the double pivot (and more a comment for the other posters), usually one of the 2 will roam further forward once possession has passed by their "starting position". We don't want to attack with so few players, we want there to be an element of verticality, of players from different parts of the pitch arriving in the attacking areas. See, as a great example, Arsenal's goal against Liverpool, where Rice, one of their double pivots, burts forward and into the inside right channel to deliver the cross. We see Janelt do that, too, but more often it's the right sided midfielder, which has been Sangare more often.
I don't wish to be negative but Mamadou might be a fine midfielder but a regular goalscorer he ain't, notching just 5 in 59 appearances for Rapid Vienna and Lens. He’s got excellent technique and has only been small margins from a number of spectacular goals this season. A bit like when Bryan was constantly hitting the post, when Sangare gets this right, he’ll add plenty of goals too.
Gonna be our next Ghoddos!!He's had a few great shots from outside the box
He already has one for us as well. He's had a few great shots from outside the box
3 out of 5 didn't.Two out of the 5 on the panel thought it was a pen v Hull
