Did him self no harm in front of his new manager by putting in a decent display against Man City.

Kept them in the game with a few outstanding saves.

Thought he might be on his way in the transfer window but with Camp gone back to QPR maybe he will have his day again.

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

Smith had a falling out with Calderwood. That was why he was dropped from the team, and Camp was brought in.

Sounds like it was a Man of the Match performance... great report about him in NOTW :)

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

sh*t i was hoping we'd sign him if he was really out of favour!

If we were in league one wouldnt have been that unbeleivable before saturday...

Taken from the BBC gossip column

New Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies is set to raid former club Derby for keeper Stephen Bywater. (Daily Mirror)

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

Good to see him back to his best in the FA cup midlands derby, that last save was truly stunning.

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

If we can't get Hamer permantely would it be worth going in for him?

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

It didn't quite happen for him IMO, he had that patch at Southampton where I thought he would go on but for some reason he never reached the heights that I thought he destined for.

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

Isn't Turner the one that had a comedy professional debut in a live game at Goodison a few years back?

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

Smudger would be a great signing but it is unlikely.

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

He's always being moaned at by the Forest fans. He's been suffering from a huge lack of confidence as well as having a dodgy back four in front of him. I've seen him plenty of times this season and he is a quality shot stopper and when confident looks a good keeper, but when you compare him to a keeper like Lee Camp there is a gulf in class between a good lower league keeper and a quality championship one.
He'll be released at the end of the season because Billy Davies has openly critcised him and been hinting at a clear out in the summer.
Would definitely be a good signing as a replacement for Hamer.

No chance. Have you any idea how much he's on a week. Just to give you some sort of clue, the average Championship players wage is around £3000-4000 per week and in a lot of cases much higher.

Depends who else wants him and how much Forest are willing to pay to get rid of him.

My guess is his earning power has peaked for now at least and may have to go back to Div 1/2 (at modest salary) to resurrect his career, mind you he might still do that with Forest...

He might be out of contract and so they won't have to pay him anything.

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

He is not out of contract.

Not yet he's not but reading reports it suggested he might be at the end of the season. Personally I don't know.

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

I am sure I read that he signed a new 2/3 year contract last summer.

He did...if big Billy Davies is still there next season I guess Forest might be willing to buy Smith out as he would be an expensive reserve player, that's two Forest managers who have blown him out.

Wonder if they would swop him for an ex SPL goalie?

Think thats a tad high as an average. My friends grandson plays for Liecester (Andy King) and his wages are nowwhere near that.

Everton legend !
....he must be about 50 by now...lucky to still be in the game IMHO

This:

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...-a-premiership-footballer-in-2006-473659.html

says that the average championship salary was almost £200,000 p.a. 3 years ago and I doubt if it has fallen since then?

Average salaries can be very misleading as figures can be distorted by a small number at the top earning huge amounts. They are therefore not necessarily "typical" .

The midpoint would be a better indicator and I would imagine it is a lot less than £3/4k per week

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

Instead of all this guessing, why doesn't Claire just ask him? ;)

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

Plus, of course, Leicester are in League One

Although they have stated they are paying championship wages to try and out of the division at the 1st attempt.

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

Was MOM against Sheff Utd will play in the final 3 games for them as Iain Turner has a broken finger

oh if Paul Smith came back to Brentford that would be more awesome than Darren Powell's return (prior to Monday's incident obviously).

i think it is more likely that George Bush would win a popularity contest in the Middle East.

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

I spoke with a Forest fan in Bournemouth and he didnt think too highly of him, and that he was one of the worst keepers they have had!

Gazza Bee and South Acton Bee had to hold me back, so I didnt hit the guy :fishing:

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

Paul Smith is the best keeper ive seen at Brentford. Just ahead of Dave McKellar.

Paul Smith (Ex-Keeper)

He came from nowhere and did brilliantly but something is lacking. Technically he is great and he looks the part too but I do not think that he dominates , takes charge or talks well enough.

If you could match Nelson's confidence with Smith's ability then we would have a keeper.

Sorry, I would say that McKellar has been way clear as the best keeper at GP since the mid-60s. I know many rated Smith but I would rate several others higher, Bond, Sherwood, Phillips come to mind.

Ive been going since 57 and I echo those thoughts. IMHO he is the best I have seen in my time as a Bees fan.:sorted:
