Rochdale are going to have a big say in who does and doesn't make the play offs, as they are playing all the teams involved except Chesterfield.

Most of the other teams have to play teams that are near the foot of the table, which doesn't always go in your favour.

I agree that it may be too late, but until it is mathmatically impossible I won't give up.

We are going up .. we are going up .....!!!!!!!

Sorry but don't really think so. Also don't believe we are ready to go up. We need another season in this s**t division to get us ready. It must be s**t if we can have had the season we have had, lose 17 games and still just be in contention. Also next season, this league will be stronger -- Luton, Bournemouth, Aldershot, Gillingham, soshould be some good games. If we did scrape up this season, think next season would be big struggle.

I am very optimistic about the future now. Scotty has got us out of the doo doos, steadied things after a rocky patch, and I believe he will get us out of this league next season (in the right direction)!!!

Great win today. Grimsby were really up for it.

Whilst i'd like to see us in the playoffs - i can't see brentford going anywhere meaningful until we get the new ground sorted. That will allow us the budget overhaul which is needed to start sustained competition at higher levels.

The obvious perk of being in league 1, is that we are guaranteed to be in the football league the following season. A luxury which seems like nothing until you are down in the bargain basement! So well worth pushing for.

So, playoffs - still possible, not likely, but far stranger things have happened.

Getting interesting. If only, we could have won one more of those 6 defeats in 7 and it would have been really tight.

Rochdale are poor at home with only 6 wins and have 6 out of 9 at home. Jack Lester has broken his nose and could be out for 3 weeks

No point in giving up, we just have to keep plugging away and you just never know. Heywood on the bench today is great news.

At least we are keeping the season alive til the end and that will lead to bigger crowds and much needed revenue.

Our remaining games are not easy but they are winnable, it is a slim chance but possible, I am sure AS has not yet given up and neither should we.

AHHH Great !!, someone else who thinks Wycombe are the team to overhaul. They are shedloads of points above us....can't see us doing it. ....................... However next year with a few better players we should get out of this division :wave:

the fact we're in with 1% chance at this stage is not something many of us would of thought back when big tel was choking the life out of us.

i say enjoy it, get along on saturday, and pray like hell to whatever god you believe in. me, i'm not a big believer in religion so any god who wants to recruit a new supporter needs to show himself/herself to me and come up with the goods.

His name is Andy Scott, and if he produces a win next Saturday he definitely deserves to be among the gods! Still 6 games to go all out for and Chesterfield are the one for us to most possibly overtake.

We'd need to win all 6 to get in the play-offs (possibly 5 wins and a draw but our GD is so bad we probably need all 18pts) - I don't think it is at all likely given some relatively hard games left for us.. must be at least 100-1 in my view

While I'd never turn down promotion, I think we'd really struggle if we went up - with the 11-12 players still under contract next year, we'd need to sign better players than we can afford to compete in League One. But, with a small number of good signings, I think we can be a force in Lge 2 next season, especially with the wealthier clubs being promoted out of the division, and clubs in a poor financial position coming down

We need 16 points out of 18. Cant see it. We did 4 out of 4 with Bliss and Deano up front but try hard as they do, Connell and Elder are not in the same league.

we did and it coincided with the signing on loan of Detzi Kruzinski ( god alone knows how it is spelt) and his play in midfield seemed to join all the bits together.

In reality we do not have a snowballs hope this season and if we did scrape in I do not think we would progress with the team we have which includes loanees who would not be eligable by the end.

As much as I would love to go up this season I have to agree it is probably best in the long run if we leave our promotion push for next season. Whoever said that the league will be stronger next year with the teams coming down I believe is wrong. We have had to compete with uber-wealthy clubs such as MK, Peterborough and Darlo this year. The clubs coming down from League One are in financial turmoil and won't provide much more of a threat than Brentford and Bradford have this season.

I think we can do well next season, and hopefully the new stadium will be confirmed and ready to start building, which will put us in a much more solid state.

It should have been so frigging easy to have claimed a place in the top 7. You can count the games of the fingers of 2 hands and a foot where we simply didn't turn up and blew it.

Our home form has indeed been very dodgy this season, but two back to back 4-1 wins seems to have sorted that out in the last two games.

The substitute mentioned who got a hat-trick is our best striker by far, he's been out for 6 months with cruciate ligament injuries but made a rather roy of the rovers comeback appearance on Monday.

Realistically, with 9 games left the Dale fans are targetting 73 points or so, that 14 points from 9 games, not a ridiculous expectation given that all 9 games are against teams below us (At present)

73 points is above the normal bench-mark for a play off spot in this division, so any team, including you own/Chesterfield/Grimsby/Morcambe/even Bradford who reaches it will be in with a shout.

I'd be very surprised is it was much lower than this, which leaves your team needing to win all of your remaining games, or thereabouts.

Can we have Glen Poole back please?

Yep, drew two. 2-2 Bournmouth and 0-0 at Elm Park against the pikies, then went on the run of 6 in a row. (Goosebumps and watery eyes now just typing it :cry: ) Many of us thought the game was up against Reading but it all came good in the end :cry:

The squad we currently have could get out of this league given the form since a football manager took over. Our season wasn't helped by that pundit prat off the telly hanging about, not picking a first team for 19 matches and leaving some of our best players constantly on the bench. And don't start me off about giving loan players first 11 squad numbers, mild kick in the balls for the contracted players as far as I'm concerned.

The points picked up since AS started in charge (I would debate that the team at home to Grimsby was not with TB in charge, as there was a marked difference between what came before and similarity with what came since, but officially it started at Wrexham away)...
P21 W11 D3 L7 F31 A27 GD+4 Points 36

Average that over a season (with a bit of sensible rounding) and you roughly get this:
P46 W24 D6 L16 F68 A59 GD+9 Points 78
which every season since 2001/02 has been comfortably enough to put us squarely in the play-offs, but never promoted automatically. It's Brentford innit.

Contrary to popular belief, I don't think actually need to sign that many players in the close season.

Sure, we could do with a couple of defenders, a midfielder and another striker but, when managed properly, we aren't actually nearly as bad as some people seem to think. The squad just needs a bit of depth, not wholesale changes.

Out of my own curiosity more than anything, this is what a certain Mr Butcher's averaged form would have given us at the end of the season:
Butcher out: P19 W5 D4 L10 F16 A31 GD-15 PTS19
Season's end: P46 W12 D10 L24 F39 A75 GD-36 PTS46
Enough for 22nd, 23rd(R), 22nd, 21st, 23rd(R) and 23rd(R) in L2 since 2001/02.
Averaging the points of the bottom teams so far this season would put us 22nd just scraping into L2 status.

In that memorable season when we won promotion and took top spot at our last match at Peterborough, how ironic that Peterborough just crept into the play-offs and then won them to be promoted with us. It now looks as though we are attempting to do the same, but with the situation reversed.

How pleasant to have an opposition supporter on our web site who comes on to speak openly and honestly and indeed interestingly. A change from certain other clubs' supporters we have had on here in recent weeks. I hope the best team win (preferably Brentford of course), and have to say like your original name. :)

Have to agree with others and state that for the first time ever I would not want us to go up. Feel next season in this Lg could be special (pending summer transfer activity) and then could have a solid team to compete in Lg.1 season after that.

Who knows without the severe case of TB we contracted earlier in the season I may be talking differently. Sat will be interesting all the same, lose and its over, beat them and who knows.... ;)

No it's called being realistic!

When he took over as Manager I seem to recall we were about 20th out of 92 leagues clubs, having taken 19 points from 19 games.

He's got us to 10th and has said 3 games ago that he doesn't think we'll make the play offs and he's right, why does that show a lack of ambition?

He's rightly said we ain't good enough yet as he hasn't had the time but we're getting there and expect to challenge next season and I've no reason to doubt him.

Would you rather believe we employed more people who told us that everything is fine, the players are all world beaters and worth millions and within three years we'll be debt free and playing in the premiership........if so, purchase an old programme with a contribution from Larry Signy.

:imwith: Ok we might not have enough to make it this time around, but to not want it or say we are better of not getting it this time is totaly beyond me. Are these views based on some kind of defence mechanism to deal with the fact we are in the bottom league?

I want promotion this season if we get it it will be one of the best seasons we have had, from relegation certainties to promotion in the same season, its what dreams are made of.

As for not having a squad to compete in League one, leave it out, we will be getting a new squad in the summer what are you all time travellers?

Although knowing our luck with divisional changes whenever we've finished 2nd or 3rd in the past, that'd be the year they scrap the parachute payments.
