Youth Team 2nd Round Cup QPR 1 Brentford 0
A miserable week was compounded for Brentford after another cup defeat this time at the hands of QPR.
After their disasterous FA Youth Cup defeat at the hands of non league Ebbsfleet, Darren Sarll's boys were looking to bounce back and try to recapture early season form. Unfortunatley it wasn't to be, although it can be said the boys did at least give it their all - unlike in Wednesdays game.
The manager made a number of changes for the game and in a very tight match it took a piece of magic to break the deadloc. It came in the way of QPR's young England superstar Raheem Sterling, whose 70th minute strike was good enough to win any cup match, let alone this one. However, the goal didnt tell the whole story as all the other action centrerd in and around the QPR goal, but when your luck's out it's well and truly out.
Firstly, Gomez hit the bar with a header, Bush again went close, and in the dying seconds Valentine, who had just returned from injury, nearly capped a fine comeback when his close range effort somehow squirmed past the QPR post.
I think the manager was probably not happy with the result but he must have been pleased with the effort the boys put in. So next it's the in-form Wycombe this Saturday which promises to be another very tight affai, .but if the lads can put in as much effort as they did this game then a turn in fortunes can only be around the corner
