Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

Good deal for Sam, I've never been a big fan but no doubting the effort he put in last season and no denying he put in some game changing performances towards the end of the season. He will definately be a useful squad player and offer us an extra dimension in terms of his dead ball skills:sorted:

................yep...........just saw him in Boots replenishing his tan supply.............

Good for him and good for us all. Was prepared to write him off a few months ago and have been very impressed by the way he has gone about his business. Got on and did what was asked of him, worked hard and improved where he needed to. Love the fact that he references 'unfinished business' in his tweet. Am just coming out of my slump and am ready to get on with the unfinished business from last season too. Come on Brentford.

Glad Sam is staying with us, think he finished the season well and made a positive impact in games where he came and can still do a job for us at this level.

Gives us something different, and his experience (especially when coming on as a sub) was a major factor in the last weeks of the season. A very good signing imo.

Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

This time last year would have been happy if he had gone and there was talk of him going to Mk dons just before Xmas and Wasnt that bothered then. The way he has played when starting or coming on has been very good and has out performed Harry since January.i think we can easily right off players of his age look at Cureton most on here me included wrote him off years ago but he's been regularly scoring goals, still a t*****.Will be a handy player to have in the squad especially with what l expect to be some more young players coming on board in the coming months.

Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

At first I liked him, then I went off him, earlier this season I thought he would off in the summer. I think in the last 3-4 months he has risen to the challenge and showed what a good player he is and think he could be a huge player for us next year. If HF leaves as I think most agree is the most likely outcome, it leaves the door open for SS to take the mantle of creator.

Good news. I'm glad Sam is staying

Grown up, Matured and with that improved his game unbelievably... Really pleased at this news...

Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

He ain't 5"9 is he?i though he was about 5"6?

Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

Great News.

Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

excellent news. yippee.

hopefully he will get regular starts and not make way for a pimply yoof on loan! (0nly half joking too)

Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

Saunders should be very happy. He can not play over 20 minutes, so a 2 year contract for him is easy money

Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

It is obvious he struggles with fitness, hence why he rarely starts a game.

how do you know this or are you just guessing?

Think that's down to the cautious Mr Rosler's selection policy. He's as fit as anyone in the squad. If he was only a 20 min player he would not be offered this deal.

Edit - reply to jdavis

Because I have watched the player on a number of occasions and can tell he has ran out of energy. One example v portsmouth at home.

okay we will see how many games he starts next season

Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

I am more than happy that he has agreed to resign but sad that we need to keep hold of him.

If we had gone up I think it would have been sayonara with all our thanks and best wishes, as it is I am sure that he will be an important squad member next season

think your being a little harsh tbh.. some players just have crap games.. we were losing when he got taken off..

Lovely player on the ball, but my opinion is that he is slow and lacks stamina. Still a decent player to be able to bring on.

I agree he is a bit part player, bit like Kev now.. sometimes a good 30 minutes of Sam is better than a full 90 minutes..

Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

Really pleased with this. I think Sam deserves a new deal, 2 years is good. You can tell he has a real passion and love for the club. Pleased for him.

Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

Sam never got on with AS......however UR seems to have told him how important a player he is for us....pleased he is staying.....:sorted:...YOU REDS...

Agree but sadly the target list has different names from the one if we'd been promoted. Sam is an intelligent footballer who can make a difference and does hit a great deadball. I reckon he'll feature in a lot of games but not necessarily
starting too many. Glad he's been rewarded, been a very good servant and top lad to boot.

Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

Reads the game and mood of a game better than most in the squad, Swindon at home changed our tempo and game.

He has shone, once he realised he doesn't have to play every minute of every game just shine in the ones he does.

He has become as important to Rosler as Douglas and Kev, an older head who listens, absorbs and puts the team first.

12 months ago, it seemed It was all about Sam, but he looks a better player than that now, Saunders in L1 is an admired player and seen as a threat by our opposition, a good bit of business by Rosler and the club as we put the bricks in place for next year.

Glad he has been resigned although had we gone up I doubt he would be staying

Well we didn't, one of the best dead ball specialist in football including the premiership. Someone who has the ability to win or change the game. Swindon at home? For that reason I'm delighted he is staying.Reckon he would be fine .in the Championship too

Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

I'm very happy with this, I find it a little odd that a year ago when he was on fire he was only offered 1 year, plus another based on performances. While now after a load of sub appearances he's been given a straight 2 year contract. Maybe it's in response to Harry potentially leaving, or maybe they offered Sam two years because it was what it took to keep him here....or maybe they just saw his worth.

Either way I'm pleased he's here, he's a great player at dead balls. But I believe his game is more than that, this is a positive step imo. A fully fit Sam Saunders can win you a game.

Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

The issues with Saunders are more to do with him constantly going for goal when at times a pass would be more beneficial.

However it has payed off numerous times for us as well and in League 1 he's certainly capable and is a good player to have in our squad.

Good news.

Very experienced, a potential game changer and sees games out well too when needed.

SmiffyBee rules of football.
1. Can you shoot ? If yes then shoot. If no then...
2. Can you pass ? If yes then pass. If no then...
3. Can you dribble ? If yes then dribble, if no then...
4. Can you shield the ball ? If yes then shield, if no then...
5. Kick it out.

Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

Good news. An experienced head in the dressing room who will help the morale of the team throughout the course of the season. Will probably have the odd game when he goes missing but is still a great threat from set pieces and as others have said, a name that is known and feared by other players at L1 level.

Sam Saunders - Signs to June 2017

Was speaking with a Stevenage fan and they would bite our hands off to have him in their squad !!
