The "Fulhamification" of our Club

Since I have been coming to GP, Gilham has always read out the teams for the first time about 45 minutes before kick off. The last 4 games has seen the first read out of the teams delayed until 15 minutes before kick off. Does anyone know why this is now the case?

I'm not sure this is the case. We got in the ground early for the Derby County game and the teams were definitely read out at least twice.

Just look it up on livescore app on your mobile, appears an hour before KO.

If you are struggling to get it the real giveaway is that the players that are starting wear the bibs and go through drills as a separate group away from the rest of the team.

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

There's still a good 40 minutes of pub time left at that point though so why would you be in the ground anyway... ;)

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

The teams are made available at around 2.10pm and I'm sure PG reads them out soon after that.

that's not very polite.........

They used to be read out around then (see my first post), but they definitely haven't been the last few games.

Just watch the warm up and you can work it out for yourself

Still have to find something to have a moan about! :banghead:

We've just gone and won 5 games on the bounce in the 2nd tier for the first time in 75 years! Who cares when the teams are read out over the tannoy?! Just log on to the GPG, BIAS twitter or Beesotted twitter and it's all there in front of you.

Perhaps we're taking a leaf out of Hull City's book!

I was told by a Hull supporter that when Peter Taylor was manager there he started to get some stick from fans about his team selections so he instructed the club NOT to read out the teams until they had actually entered the pitch for the kick-off - his bizarre reasoning was that supporters would have less time to moan and gripe about the selection!!

Even when Taylor left, Hull continued with that tradition until just a couple of years ago!

I wondered about some cynical marketing ploiy - make people look at a website with ads for xxxxxx, Have only noticed it in last couple of games.

It's a very minor quibble, as (if you're in GP) you can see the players, or (if outside) most will have internet access, but seems a needless change. But let's focus on the great entertainment, not make this a big issue

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

PG has been instructed NOT to read out teams until 15 mins prior to kick off - same as they do not appear on scoreboard until then either.

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

Most people go on twitter and get the teams from bias/beessotted/brentford or go on the GPG

Exactly - that is why it makes no sense for PG to be instructed not to announce teams until 15 mins before kick off.

The post by Aberdeen Flyer is correct and this is just the start.
Hidden in the advert for the new senior marketing executive is the quote deliver the Clubs Matchday Entertainment.
The writing is on the wall that Peter Gilham will be replaced as the matchday announcer coupled with the fact that club has replaced a volunteer who played the match day music with yet another paid person with no love or connection to our fantastic club.
Having removed The Big Red Ball from Peter and replaced him with yet another paid events organiser the family aspect of the club is being eroded.

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

What difference would it make?

Shame if true as PG is a corner stone of this club.............. Only thing i will say is all things come to an end. I cant see it happening but a big thanks to PG if it does.

If PG was removed from the PA announcemnets there would be uproar.

He wont be removed

............thanks for the tips............

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

I think we can all see things are changing and in fairness most of them for the better. I would be amazed and disappointed if Peter was replaced as the match day presenter anytime soon as he is one of the very best things about Brentford and GP over the last 40 odd years. He may not be the long term future but I hope he only hangs his microphone up when he's ready.

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

Peter's pre match announcements are now scripted for him by the new Head of Marketing Kurt Pittman who has introduced a match day running order.

Give us a B, Gives us an E ........lol

Thanks for that explanation.
I am perplexed as to why the club have done that.
We have, by general consensus, one of the very best pitch announcers in football, and probably the most experienced. And he has always crammed in lots of announcements, which us supporters greatly appreciate.
If he aint broke, why fix him?!!

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

The reason these changes are taking place is that PG works for the football department and therefore does't come under the direct control of the new regime currently running the off the field aspects.
The Big B Radio name has also bit the dust, PG will be next I am afraid.

Well Pittman is ex Fulham and was only there 5 years but I notice Dickhead David Hamilton has been their match presenter for the best part of 20 years so no reason why the vastly superior PG should be worried?

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

Mr Pitman also ousted Diddy David Hamilton

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

Scripted pre-match announcements. FFS. Modern football is pathetic at times.

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

A new system so everyone could hear would be best practice if the marketing head wants to include marketing in any script.
PG may want to retire one day also?

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

Hasn't PG always read from a script?

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

We do not need to change the announcer, nor his much -acclaimed style
But it would make sense to give him some decent equipment so more people can hear him!

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

Without knowing the in's and out's of any arrangement, it would be highly unusual if there was not some consultation and discussion. Are people pre-supposing that PG has no input and is told exactly what to say?

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

That is exactly whats happening, there is no consultation or discussion involved.
The match day staff are told what to do and when so much so that PG was shadowed on the pitch to make sure that he conformed to the instructions he was issued with

:imwith: Quite right Geoff.

PG has done a brilliant job over the years and in many ways I regard him as Mr Brentford.
Sure he'll retire one day but I sense he doesn't want to yet.

Agree some more audible equipment would be good though

Is there a chance that you are making this out to be more sinister that it is? Clearly, a team of people will need to work together to ensure the match day "event" goes off smoothly so an element of planning and control is surely necessary?

Correct but not pre-supposing.

Well Pittman is ex Fulham and was only there 5 years but I notice Dickhead David Hamilton has been their match presenter for the best part of 20 years so no reason why the vastly superior PG should be worried?

And so is the new man playing the music but he is not Ex- Fulham as he is still involved with them.

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

Hmmmm ..... some very informed people adding to this "thread". :suspect:

No he's not. This is how it is. PG now has a script down to the 0.5 minute re what the say and when to say it. All down to the new "Marketing Manager" from Fulham.

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

Totally agree with the smooth running and safety of the matchday experience but it boils down to the control aspect.
Peter Gilham has been Mr Brentford for many a long year and he loves the club from the bottom of his heart.
I think that he has got it right after all these years.
May I suggest that supporters contact the club and ask them a direct question if they are going to replace PG.
I would be amazed if you get a straight answer

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

[/B]

Correct but not pre-supposing.

Well it seems strange to me that they want to ensure PG adheres to a script when the microphone and PR system doesn't allow most fans to hear more than about 30% of what he's been told to say?
Hope he is still announcing on the day we leave GP asking certain well known GPGers to once again get off the pitch.

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

Yes but Kurt Pittman has brought in his mate from Fulham and within 2 weeks a new pc was installed with access to Spotify so that there is a wider choice of music - I don't have a problem with that but it would have been nice if this could have been done on the many occassions we had asked for upgrade.

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

 if they replace Mr Gilham then I am never going to get there early again. legend is an overused word in football but you can give Sir P of G that tag any day of the week.

I refuse to believe it.

he is BRENTFORD. :nono:

where do i sign to stop this nonsense.

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

Changes afoot for the move to LR......??

We'll be having large flags being waved from either end of the pitch, or from the sides, and one for the supporters to carry over their heads soon.... Oh hang on...... :(

Things change, some for the better, some not. We've seen it with stewards, sponsors lounge staff and other changes within the football club. Let's hope PG is still there when the Bees kick off at LR, as without him, it could well be a soulless place.....Gotta keep PG, a legend of our beloved football club behind the scenes.

The "Fulhamification" of our Club

Bleedin' crazy, really mad stuff, I never listen to much of what is said and only came alive when Footloose started but this is mental. PG should tell them to shove it in a nice way, mention that his heart isn't in this mic stuff anymore or something unless he is happy with this sh!te.
