what is it , the man say no

How statistical analysis and new thinking in football is changing fortunes for innovative football clubs such as FC Midtjylland and Brentford FC.

Featuring North London Bee and a couple of other well-known faces at GP.

It is a very good watch. :hat:

Very good video giving an insight into how excactly we are using stats but in a way most people can understand and the effect it has already had for fc midgy.

I think out of all the videos ans articles ive read that has been the clearest and most understandable so very educational and tells people excactly what they need to know, and when it says it uncovered moses, gray and jota using our methods then who can argue!

We were told stats were used to get those players. We haven't just brought it in this season.

Now this is a clearer, more understandable and educational video, telling us what we need to know, do you think everyone ****ing off Benham, Marinus and players will stop ? I don't .its got so out of control

Cracking watch - must for bees fans

Matthew Benham and our stats approach

A very well made and informative piece.

Very good! Is it me, or did NLB look scary with wild eyes? Resembled someone about to go out and commit mass murder!!!

In fact, I think he was sipping a nice glass of Chianti?

For the ill informed hopefully this simple and educational recording will make it clear in their brains what we're all about now. However the information has been available for a while.

And so that it's 100% clear, the stats are used for us to identify players. NOT buy them.

Matthew Benham and our stats approach

Phew... I was convinced it was gonna be another effing Downfall/Hitler pisstake... Will watch it all a bit later. Looks good. Hopefully enables people to see the bigger picture rather than a single game in a Cup competition we were never going to win.

Matthew Benham and our stats approach

A very good video, after a slightly slow start. Required watching I would say for those not in the know. The stats approach is given the blame for everything bad (the youth players we've had for years lost because....stats!) so this video can highlight what it is we're doing and the positives about it.

Also can we slightly amend the title, so people know it's a positive video on it rather than another heavy, draggy thread questioning our direction?

Matthew Benham and our stats approach

Ok. Perfectly explained.. It's about getting the better performing players from lower teams, ect ect...

Matthew Benham and our stats approach

Doubters please watch...

He did have a bit of a psychotic glint now you mention it...

Interesting parallels with the original money ball baseball story. They went through a very rough patch in the early days and got slaughtered in the press and by some of their fans. Of course they came through it and in the end was a big success. Judging by a lot of the media ridicule that has already started and the reaction by some after last night's game it would be fair to expect the same if things don't immediately pan out.

Personally I will try and keep things in perspective. If we struggle this season then so be it. A struggle in the championship is way better than the mediocre mid table dross that we have watched for so long. I believe that MB is doing his absolute best for the club and that anything less than backing this revolution 100% is pointless and ungrateful.

Thanks for all the good feedback gents. Glad you liked it...

Great video.. Hopefully what we're experiencing at this very early stage is exactly what FCM fans went through

A great watch and most inspiring.

We have a stats approach? When did this happen?

Must watch

Absolutely loved that

Shame we don't have that screen I thought was going in, as this should be shown before every game to try and educate the doubters. I was already convinced but this just reinforced my thinking.

Ah, the Emperor's new Jumbotron. I wish they wouldn't keep playing that video of some scaffolding and a wall. Really good, clear picture though.

This was put together by one of our own who asked me if anyone suitable I could think of to interview and I said no!!!
I wanted a positive spin lol

I think this is the same guy that interviewed some friends of mine in Sweden for the Hammarby video..

I love that line "life is too short to be a mid table team."

Matthew Benham and our stats approach

Well MB must be doing his nut about pitchgate and the injuries. The stats and laws of probability get totally screwed by things like this. Personally I've gone from being really excited about the start of the new season to OMG what else can go wrong. Beginning to get a really bad feeling. We must have upset the football gods somewhere along the line. Bjelland, Hogan, MacLeod and the Chelsea lad (haven't even learnt his name yet!) all out injured before we've even started. Add Douglasgate and the unexpected sales of Moses and Dallas plus the Gray situation. Well I for one am now hovering over the D&G entrance!

Statistical analysis showed that one of the first 40 posts would be a negative one. The stats never lie!

Very sorry to have proved the stats then but am only posting how I feel now after the initial elation of a new season dawning. How quickly it can all change!

Interesting that thus summer we made no Spanish signings. Implies that German, Dutch and Belgium and French leagues were stronger last year.
But based on the other night, clubs in English League 2 are over achieving and Rasmus should be number crunching why ...

Matthew Benham and our stats approach

I wonder if the gamblers amongst us could ride on Benham's coat tails by using things learnt from that video as an indicator.
If you accept the premise in that video that a big part of their scouting is finding over achieving clubs in terms of performance, if not goals, and poaching their best player(s), then logically if we fail to capture a player from one of these clubs (and they don't sell anyone else) then they may well be a good shout for a bet on performing well in their league especially if the odds are attractive.

I think it is entirely fair to point out that while the innovations detailed in the video are interesting and exciting, it is also extremely important that we get the basics right! My enjoyment of this video was for example somewhat reduced by hearing that one of the players presumably scouted on this basis looks likely to be out for an extended period of time at least in part because of the pitch fiasco!

Matthew Benham and our stats approach

The catch all seems to the concept of randomness. I sort of understand in terms of goals but there are other factors such as we are currently experiencing such as pitches, weather or refing. Last season we had major injuries to two big signings but seemingly apart from Sam the squad stayed fit. Are injuries factored in as random or are there players who through their approach, style or physical build more prone to injuries. It seems that LM has at least dodgy hamstrings, JM had a couple of fitness/injury disrupted seasons, Sam just appears injury prone and AB on Wed was an injury waiting to happen either thru the pitch or what appeared to be a half hearted approach. SH maybe was just very unlucky. I assume their must be a metric re a players susceptiblity to injury and given our squad size is limited by resources are we just unlucky (randomness) or have a glitch in the system

F*** me and I thought football was about a ball and scoring more than the other team - completely lost me but maybe I'm just thick???
