So who's left (merged)

Following MA's statement we have the following squad next year;

Nelson
Masters

Kev
Turner
Sodje
Tillen
Framps
Osbourne
Charles
Mousinho

Oli
Peters
Rhodes

Owusu
Ide
Willock
(?Rankin)

defence is okay if no one leaves, but midfield and forwards are looking a bit bare.
How many midfielders and forwards do you think we will need?

So who's left (merged)

5 mids, 3 fowards........no way are we gonna get that but that is what we need.

oh and defo 1 more keeper.

So who's left (merged)

Yes midfield and forward line is bare, but nothing like the 2002 walk-out.

Is Ide Deffinately Pro yet ?

According to my dodgy memory the contracts for Nelson, Rhodes and O'Connor are due to expire at the end of June 2006. Is this correct?

So who's left (merged)

Who's in and who's out?

Irrespective of MA's announcements, the new man will be faced with a squad, some of whom will be in contract and some whose contract will be about to expire on 30 June.

My understanding is that some were given 'frees' who were still in contract, and therefore would require another club to come in for them before they can be taken off the payroll.

The questions are: How would you deviate from MA's decisions and is it too late to offer Tabby a contract worth signing?

I have no inside information whatsoever. From what I can remember of what's been written on here, this is the situation. Please feel free to correct me. ;)

Nelson – Contract
O'Connor – Contract
Frampton – Contract
Sodje – Contract
Turner – Contract
Newman – Out of contract
Brooker – Contract
Skulason – Contract
Owusu – Contract
Tabb – Out of contract
Dobson – Out of contract
Hutchinson – Out of contract
Rankin – Out of contract
Gayle – Out of contract
Rhodes – Contract
Tillen – Contract
Willock – Contract
Lewis – Never under contract
Smith – Loanee
Pratley – Loanee
Bankole – Out of contract
Peters, Masters, Charles, Steele, Osbourne, Watts, Ide, Moleski – All in contract (?)
Mousinho – Contract
Fitzgerald – Contract

Actually, looking at the list has cheered me up about the future. But has next year's playing budget already been exceeded by the players still in contract? Hence the need to offload Newman and Brooker? :fishing:

Newman is out of contract.

Peters, Masters, Charles, Osbourne, Ide and Mousinho are also contracted.

Two excellent bits of news. :bound:

Fitzgerald & Brooker are still in contract. Any new manager might want them to stay. :fishing:

As I suggested in my post, how much room will the new guy have to manoeuvre in terms of the wage-bill he inherits and the budget at his disposal?

Given that MA brought him to the club from a previous club and gave him a two or three (?) year contract, but still decided to give him a 'free', Brooker is probably an expensive luxury (whatever you think of his ability)

But can Tabby be persuaded to stay anyone?

Think that depends if he has very good offers elsewhere at a higher level. If as has been suggested elsewhere, it might be too late as a Championship club are already lining or have lined him up.

Tabb, only if no better club comes in for him (in terms of league status or salary, I imagine), so unlikely to stay

I doubt if next year's salary budget has been all used up, but if Brooker and Fitz don't go, there will be little left - bargain basement salaries only, I expect

Put Sodje up front, Framps next to Turner and Tillen on the left. A defence as tight as a...tight thing. Forget the midfield - just lob it at Sam and watch the mayhem. Who needs coaching courses... ?

Reading between the nudges & winks from another thread, Coventry.
Tabb was at the golf day, so maybe a few picked up info from that.

What will the team look like next season?

I know it's still too early to guess how many players and who we will have next season, but we may still have the rump of a decent side.

We know Leroy is planning to bring in 4 or 5 and we know we will have a small squad (20?) backed up by kids.

How about this for starters:

GK; Nelson, Marsters, Bankhole
Defenders: SuperKev, Turner, Framps, Tillen, Mousinho, Gayle, Charles, Kyraciou
Midfield; Skulasson, Hutch, Brooker, Carder-Andrews, Lewis
Forwards; Owusu, Willock, Peters, Rhodes, Ide

This assumes that money is found to keep Hutch and that Marcus and Lewis are kept on some sort of pay as you play deal. I have chosen these 3, because I suspect they are the cheapest of the out of contract players and they can also do a job for us. From other theads; it sounds like Brooker is here for the long term and I havent heard of anyone wanting to come in for Lloyd even though he wants to go.

I assume that Tabby and Sam will go, although I would love to see both stay. I make no further comment on Newman's absence from my squad.

For people not familiar with the youth team, I thought that Carder-Andrews is the type of midfield player we have been crying out for; he plays the ball accurately to feet, has a good engine and always wants the ball in the 2 games I saw - he bossed the midfield and always managed to find a bit of space and time to play simple, but effective balls and, most importntly, as soon as he passed he ran into space and wanted it back again. Kyraciou also looked really good at right back and ready to mak the step up (unlike Karleigh -who looked really uncomfortable in possession). Darius Charles looked skilful and comfortable at centre back and Ide certainly has ability (I wasnt so impressed by his decision making) and should be backed.

Given that new players cant come in until contracted players have left, we only have Isiah's salary to reallocate at the moment - but I still think we have the makings of a decent squad. We are obviously short of class midfielders, but I saw nothing wrong with Junior Lewis playing the holding role and we have to hope Oli is the real deal. I still think that Kev can do a good job in central midfield and there is always the possibility of playing wing backs.

If that were our squad for next season, I'd put a bet on relegation. I don't know enough about the kids, but I would see that as providing a first 11 just about good enough for mid table (Nelson; Kev Turner Framps Tillen; Brooker Lewis Skulasson Rhodes; Owusu Willock) with no proven support whatsoever (Hutch and Fitz the only experienced pros - Gayle past it).

I don't think it will be as bad as that. We have got Newman and Rankin off the books, and I'd certainly release Hutch and Gayle; and the squad listed assumes Tabb and Sodje gone, so we might be able to afford 2 experienced players and 3 promising kids.

Let's just hope Leroy can manage to get the right ones

Kyriacou wasn't our player. But i believe he has been released from Spurs. Didn't rate him though.

I thought he looked really good for us in the FA Youth cup

What is our squad?

Although MA allowed several players to have a free transfer do we actually know how many have gone?

I know rankin has signed for GT and several others were out of contract so are history, but what about newman?,In theory he is still in contract with us so it is likely we could strill be lumbered next year if no one else signs him.

What do we have left, when I know that for sure then I can start to think about who we need.

good ask mhead. presume lr will be allowed an eighteen man senior pro squad (which was what ma was supposed to have last campaign but went over...) and remember ma signed moussino just before he left and lr has already made one signing.

..... so how many are on contract and how many vacancies supposing fitze and newman sit out their contracts which they are perfectly entitled to do.

anyone know?

Goalies: Nelson, Masters, Bankole
Defenders: O'Connor, Sodje, Turner, Frampton, Mousinho, Osbourne, Charles
Midfielders: Tillen, Skulasson, Brooker, Peters, Rhodes
Strikers: Owusu, Fitzgerald, Willock, Kuffour, Ide

I reckon that's 20 already. Apart from Brooker, they all have until June 2007. Brooker has until June 2008. I believe I heard that O'Connor and Turner may be offered, or have been offered new contracts.

LR has an impossible task in midfield, unless he finds converts Framps to midfield and signs at least two central midfield players.

With the size of our squad, what a nightmare to be stuck with SF, CW and PB. LO could do a job but not on 10% of our budget each year.

Also what if Skulasson is pony after the serious injury, we will have at best probably 1 specialst central midfield player ( we of course have to sign him/her first). I also don`t like players having no competition ala Nelson and this won`t help the puffin eater.

I do think LR needs to go to his friends at Fulham or W Ham and get some help with some loanees.

Good luck matey.

It's the budget total, not the amount of players that was taken into account.

What aboat free loans from Arsenal for example?
I'm sure we must be asking.

Well, Dyke is reportedly a good mate of David Dein's, so you never know. The next Steven Sidwell would be alright, wouldn't he? :fathopesmilie:
