New Away Ticketing Policy?

As fruity hasnt done a thread :nono:

I thought we were informed that the Police had blocked the idea of just using seats  Too hard to manage or something silly like that

Great idea though, simple and effective way of ensuring that we generate additional revenue on home match days:sorted:

Not only are they too hard they are also have little leg room for us taller types. ;) :D

New Away Ticketing Policy?

As you can imagine, us Blackpool fans are far from impressed with this.

Not only is it a worse view in the stand for more money, we'd rather stand up anyway as the weather is bound to be nice on the opening day of the season - it always is.

I don't imagine it will make any difference, but we have dedicated a message board to trying to get your club to open the terrace.

You can check it out at: http://boards.rivals.net/default.asp?sid=912&p=16&style=2&forumid=6698

I'm not sure how sympathetic you'll be, I know you badly need the money. We do feel it's somewhat unfair however.

Thanks for your time and looking forward to Saturday!

New Away Ticketing Policy?

Away fans have always been treated like royalty at Griffin Park, while we have been screwed over at various clubs around the country, so expect zero sympathy from us as we are at last giving out as good as we get, OneDaveBamber.

New Away Ticketing Policy?

Well if that's the way you see it then fair enough.

I don't think it's always necessary to adopt the 'eye for an eye' mentality but there you go.

Hope the extra cash is spent wisely.

New Away Ticketing Policy?

While I can sympathise ODB the simple fact is we are desperate for money. Not only does this bring us more revenue for the smaller away following, i'm guessing that it will save money on stewarding and policing over the season.

In our situation we're not in a position to be generous, and away fans are going to have to accept this.

New Away Ticketing Policy?

Considering the facilities Blackpool offer, a crappy stand more suitable at the Open Golf and catering and toilet facilities that leave a lot to be desired I don't see what they have to complain about.

Any chance of a decent view for our fans at their place this year? Didn't think so.

Clubs have been doing this for years, Swindon being the prime example, it's about time Brentford caught on.

New Away Ticketing Policy?

You just have to look at clubs like Colchester et al where we are treated like cattle to see why (in my opinion) we dont care about away fans having a 'sub standard view' which I dont feel is that bad!

I'm afraid I tend to agree. Just because we get treated like sh*t at other grounds, doesn't mean we have to reciprocate. I'd like away supporters to be thinking that GP is a decent ground to visit and that they are treated well.

If you shaft "customers" they tend not to come back and everyone loses out. As WEB says, Swindon is a prime example, how many Bees don't go to matches at The County Ground any more? This means that they lose money and we lose support - lose-lose. :banghead:

It'll go somewhere else, sadly as it's not ours to spend.

I agree though, as football fans, this isn't a good thing to happen but a pragmatic approach on our part is understandable. The c%nts who took our club to to the brink didn't show a lot of compassion for us which means that we now find ourselves having to make these unpopular decisions.

Enjoy the game and the view ain't that bad.

I dont suppose you complained when you paid less than Brentford fans to watch the game last season:confused:

:imwith: I've tried to watch football in the past there but it isn't easy so my bothered pocket is empty on this one.

New Away Ticketing Policy?

My sympathy is slightly reduced by the tone of the statement on your site.

We've been one of the cheapest places for away fans to watch games for years, despite being both massively in debt and finding our generousity unmatched by other teams.

I'm afraid we can't afford to be generous anymore. Sorry. We're £9m in debt and without the assistance of a foreign millionaire. We need all the money we can get and I'd like to think other supporters might be a little more understanding.

New Away Ticketing Policy?

No, but there's really the point. Why not just up the away price, any away ticket the same price, but leave them the option of enjoying the game from where they choose (yes, I know it's a bit extra stewarting)? I agree with BoroBee, there is really very little excuse for mistreating our guests when we desire the image of a 'friendly' club and 'a great day out'. It should also be said that this policy will definitely diminish the atmosphere in the ground as the end-to-end banter will be ended.

I think it's misguided and sad.

That said, those Brentford fans that very definitely choose to sit in the far end of Braemer will find this 'terrible views' opinion a bit mysterious.

I tend to agree with this. It's a reasonable suggestion. Unfortunately, I can't see the authorities allowing us to charge away fans more to stand that home fans or for us to charge the same to stand as to sit. So why not put up terrace pricing for both home and away fans to £18, leaving seating at £19?

We may not be able to cut down on stewarding from last year if the away terraces are still open, but the substantial extra income would be a huge bonus.

New Away Ticketing Policy?

Last time I went to Blackpool, we were stuck in an old shack about 40 yards behind the goal whilst the home fans lived it up with their brand new facilities. Ho hum.

New Away Ticketing Policy?

We're not the only club to keep the terrace shut for smaller away followings. Presumably this saves on stewarding as well?

New Away Ticketing Policy?

On the basis of the majority of comments above all I can say is that none of those should now complain when they get shafted at other grounds in future.

We have always “played fair” at Griffin Park and whilst we may be in a shed load of debt due to a white haired thief is that an excuse to “exploit” fellow supporters? Is the £4 per person worth the reputation we may get? If there are say an average of 250 away supporters at £4 extra that's a £1000 per match or say £25k per season. I'm not sure we'd need more stewards as the number is determined, I believe, by the anticipated crowd size.

I'm not sure £25k is worth the reputation at the end of the day!

It does.

And TBH I am staggered that any Brentford fans, in our current position, wouldn't agree with this.

I can see the point that a few might not come, but seats are £6 more expensive, I think, so if the away following is 300 sitting, it would have to have been around 50 more standing to have made a difference.

Would 50 people not bother, I doubt it.

Hang on, we've just lost use of Stripes to maximse revenue and some 'Brentford' supporters feel its a little unfair that away fans for the FIRST TIME EVER have to pay the going rate as per home supporters.

Do you lot live in the real world

Personally, I don't care about our reputation relating to our treatment of away fans when we seem to have been treated similarly by many other clubs. This sort of reputation doesn't really help our financial position does it? And, even if your average of £250 was correct (I'm sure that the average over the season would be a lot more than that), then even £25K is not a sum to be sniffed at in our position, is it? Please wake up and smell the coffee!!!!!

If it's reputations that you're talking about, I'm much more bothered about our reputation on the playing field this season. If it's good, we might have an outside chance of getting in the average number of fans on which the budget has been based.

Why not? I'm fed up to the back teeth hearing away fans thank us for such a cheap day out, whilst we have children walking everywhere trying to keep the club going. Last years away support in general was shocking. At least if we are rewarded in such massive  numbers this year, we shall make a little more of a dent into the debt mountain.

New Away Ticketing Policy?

Could you give an opinion on the upper quote? Would 'the athorities' really not let us charge the away fans more (don't Swindon do this?)? Would it be so murderous to just have a standard terrace fee - if not alikat's £18, maybe a median number of £16 or so?

I'm just not as 'fed up to the back teeth' with opposing fans, who are actually a lot like you and me. I actually like our reputation as an excellent day of football. :)

In my opinion it's a very good idea. :sorted:
It maximises the earning potential, from away fans, by charging £5 more than the terrace.
This should also save on the stewarding costs as well, although I cannot remember the legal requirements for numbers of stewards.

I support the Blackpool supporters on this. 1) Just because we are treated badly elsewhere, there's no cause for Brentford - which prides itself on being friendly - to do the same 2) Isn't there wider support for at least a limited return to terracing among supporters 3) It makes for a better match atmosphere to be able to see opposition supporters at the other end of the pitch (particularly when it's tipping it down with rain!).

Thats it for me on this thread. After the last few years, we still have Brentford fans who simply dont understand our position.

New Away Ticketing Policy?

I really can't see what the problem is here.

We are not making ourselves a scapegoat with this and we are certainly not the first league club to do this sort of thing and lag behind most of the other clubs when it comes to charging away fans.

I was astounded to hear what we charged away fans previously  and this is not an eye for an eye situation, it is reality and brings us in line with most. Much as I don't like certain grounds and the costs involved, if you support your club, you go regardless.

We are now on a par with most, a great idea to generate much needed revenue:sorted:

Boston, I partly based my comment about not being able to charge away fans more than home on someone who is normally reliable (can't remember who, though!) posting something to that effect on here (probably on the discussion that Jonnie Gee started about prices for this season sometime ago). It is possible that this is not actually correct, and I think that you may be also right about Swindon.

However, I don't see any reason why people shouldn't be charged only £1 less to stand rather than to sit. I think that a lot of fans prefer standing anyway, so, if they can stand for less money than sitting, why not make the difference only £1. I'm sure that most wouldn't mind paying it, so why go for £16 when probably 95% of away fans would pay £18 anyway.

Let's face it, as far as the non-southern clubs are concerned, the vast majority of the true fans would make the trip irrespective of the price (unless the price is totally ridiculous), so let's get in all the money that we can while not taking the **** out of the away fans.

At the end of the day, the issue with the B'pool fans does not seem to be the price, but the fact that they won't get the best of views from the very end of the Braemar.

Ok, because I'm surely not the only one that would just like simple answers so this is an intelligent debate, just one-word answers:

1) Would 'the authorities' not allow us to put up away fans prices without changing home pricing?

2) Don't Swindon charge more for away fans?

3) If (1) is yes, then (in your opinion) could we not just find a median price that meets these requirements and meets your financial goals?

It's nothing to do with the way bees fans were treated elsewhere, or not being a friendly club. It's all about maximising the earning potential of the club! Which I am sure we all agree needs to be improved!

Correct. So this is our way of getting round it.

Is there a case for letting New Road peeps stand on the Ealing Road terrace if they wish?

New Away Ticketing Policy?

The ticket cost is a small part of the overall spend of an away fan travelling from a long distance. Most of the teams in this division are a fair way away. I can't see this making any substantial difference to the numbers of away fans attending.

The club charging away fans more than they have in the past should not change the image of the club as a friendly one. We are still the same people and will still treat opposing fans with the respect that we always have so that the nice atmosphere that we generally have allowing home and away fans in most games to mingle in the pubs and behave like sensible human beings rather than thugs is not going to die because the club makes a few quid more from the away support.

Will you all be at Oldham? If you don't go, will it be because of the £22 (possibly more this season) they charge, or just because it is a long journey to a dull place?

New Away Ticketing Policy?

No, they have exactly this policy, of only opening the cheaper part of the ground if the expensive part is going to sell out.

I've been to away grounds all over the country and at nearly every club, away fans are shafted in one way or another - to be honest, I'd go as far as to say to other clubs that this policy will be relaxed if our fans are treated better when they visit.

Are Blackpool fans up in arms about the seats/prices at Brighton? There's any number of clubs that twist and abuse the rules far more than this simple measure which saves on stewarding costs after all.

New Away Ticketing Policy?

Ok Ok.

I do stand by these thoughts though:
Being mistreated elsewhere is not a rationale for us to do likewise. Fans look forward to the GP atmosphere and our friendly approach, and I like that about us.
If away standing was less than home, it should be raised regardless.
No fans in the away terraces will diminish the atmosphere. And this actually could diminish the appeal to potential home fans.

But I give. :whiteflagsmilie:

1) definitely not

2) Not exactly. It's all-seat, and they definitely hold back opening the (cheaper) uncovered seats for away fans until they've sold all the (more expensive) covered ones. However the away fans in the covered stand pay the same as the home ones in that stand. However IIRC they charge home fans behind the goal (covered seating?) much less than those along the touchlines (and therefore the away fans) - so home fans have a way of avoiding the worst rip-off. AFAIK there's nothing to stop them doing this, and in fact a recent amendment to the relevant League regulation probably strengthens their hand in that respect.

I probably would be a bit fed up if I was an way fan, having to move, but it's our ground and we have to do what is best for Brentford FC. It's time we looked after ourselves and put a stop to generousity as it has got us where we are today.

A day out at GP has been like a holiday for away fans in the past with a pub on each corner, a big terrace where they can dance, chuck their beach balls about and have a good old surge forward when they score while we get the short end of the stick.

The point is you may not have the option to stand at somewhere like Colchester if they adopt the same policy.

I'm not overly concerned about what BFC do. BUT, let's not then have all and sundry on here complaining of the unequitable treatment we receive at away grounds compared to pricing for the home supporters. Pot and kettle!

Additionally, unlike previous seasons, we are not differentiating prices for standing between Ealing Road and Brook Road so the anomoly due to the Brook Road roof has been removed.
