Port Vale (A): Press Conference Notes
<img src="https://griffinpark.org/images/fb_Fitz-PortVale-A.jpg" hspace="5" align="left" alt="Fitz after losing to Port Vale" style="border:1px solid black">Scott Fitzgerald Quotes:
“No, you don’t always get what you deserve. I was very pleased with the performance, which carried on from the previous week. So I was delighted with that. And we managed to get in more shots today than we’ve had in recent weeks. We’ve got to take the positives out of it but at the moment it’s quite tough.
I can’t fault the players’ efforts. They worked tirelessly and they’ve been great in the last three games. At the moment we’re not getting the breaks but we’ll continue to work as hard, if not harder, to turn it around.
Are we unlucky? That depends how you interpret luck. We’ll just work as hard as we have done previously and if we keep performing as we have this week and last we’ll be OK.
I was really pleased with the performance. I thought we could have finished better. We had some good chances but didn’t make the keeper work enough. Don’t remember the home side having too many chances. To concede a goal in the 87th minute was a pretty bitter pill to swallow.
The only way forward is to work hard. I’ve got to take the positives out of today and give them to the players as soon as possible. We had more chances because of the hard work we’ve put in. Every successful side is based on hard work. If you watch all the top sides play they work the hardest.
For Calum to complete 90 mins after 6-8 weeks out I was pleased. And I don’t like to single people out but I thought John Mousinho was outstanding. You could go through the whole side… I thought the two centre backs dealt with everything.
We don’t coach them to drop back like that. I think every side, when one gets on top, your first thought is to go backwards when it should be to go forward. That’s a mental thing.
Charlie Ide has been struggling all week with a pain in his back. He hadn’t trained all week but I felt he was worthy of a spot. It was a gamble to start him but we hoped to get 60 minutes out of him. That didn’t materialise.
Don’t know [if I’ll be in charge at Carlisle]. I’m in charge on Monday!
I felt we added to what we did last week and I was pleased with the performances. I feel we have progressed with each game and that was my aim. We’ve done that over the four games but we haven’t got the results I wanted.
I felt there was a lot of work to be done in a short space of time. We only had four days to the first game then they came round thick and fast. What we’ve achieved in terms of performances over the four games I’ve been pleased with. It shows progress.
The supporters were great. I was gutted we couldn’t give them the result that we wanted and they deserved. The fans will clap and cheer as long as they see the players running for that shirt.”
