2007 Pre-Season Friendlies

Just seen on Ticketmaster that Peterborough have friendlies arranged against Manchester United and Celtic.

When are we going to get some high profile friendlies??

There are plenty of London teams that would be high profile, why not try them instead of local non league and trips to the West Country.

Got to make some money somehow.

Premier League teams in London would normally require £££ to play their first team and a share of gate. Arsenal's first team play Barnet as part of the deal that sees the Gunners reserves at Underhill.

Don't forget that Ferguson's son is now at The Posh :idea: and it could be that the whiz kid at Peterborough has paid Celtic to come down.

Peterborough also has a home friendly against Birmingham City!

It would be much better playing hone friendlies against the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Reading than the likes of Crawley and Staines Town!

I agree, I'll phone them now. I will consider it a success if I manage to get (say) 1 and a half.

Why don't we ask for freindlies when soem of these bigger clubs buy our players?

Reading?
Coventry?
Birmingham?
Hull?
Southampton?

It might make the selling the player at a knock down rate a little easier to swallow.

Instead we get
Crawley
Woking
Hampton & Richmond

Apart from the big home team friendlies, such as Arsenal, Rangers, Chelsea, it would be nice to have some decent away games (especially on Saturdays)

Newport IOW, Calais and Queens Park would fit the bill

Well it wasn't exactly the wisdom of Solomon to realise that having a friendly with Arsenal would be better than one with Crawley Town!

Can't get hold of all of them right now - but I've spoken to one club who have agreed to a friendly already :wave:

Promises were made to have more high profile friendlies after our "glamour" friendlies last summer, any ideas who we have got scheduled??

Is it not the tradition that the side in the higher league plays away from home in friendlies? Seeing as we are now at the bottom of professional football the majority of "big" pre-season games should be at home next year.

Could Dyke use his Man Utd contacts?
They probably wouldn't send a proper team as Rooney, Ronaldo, et. al. would be in China trying to flog more shirts in the country whose sweat shops make them, but a Man Utd XI of kids and a few who didn't tour could attract the scores of local Utd fans.

Yes, I believe Leroy promised to arrange a better set of pre-season friendlies. Do you expect him to deliver?

Didn't Martin Allen say a similar thing? ... and then we played the same old rubbish the next season anyway. :rolleyes:

After the help Sheff Wed fans gave me sponsoring the bike ride last season they were well up for a friendly. I emailed the club but got no response. Why can't someone try again this pre-season. I'd say quite a few of their loyal fans would come along.

I expect it to be someones job to deliver, to enable a proper preseason - obviously if we had played better oppo preseason, we would have seen then what a pile of sh*te we had to look forward to for the season to come - instead of winning against glamourous oppo ( however I did like Hampton/Yeading and Crawley games....) !! :D

I am sure if BFC approached Queen's Park FC they would be interested.
However, this is the 4th time I have suggested this.:rolleyes:
A Scottish tour would be good!:sorted:

Set up a pretend friendly against AFC Brentford but just go over there to steal back our home kits.
Oh and one against AFC Wimbledon would be nice. Coz I like them.

I mean personally I liked, footie was crap, quick half hour whizz down the M25/M23, nice sunny day, decent ground, watching a bit of handbags argy bargy after the match with the dodgy Crawley owners and some Bees fans..lol

I like the Hampton and Staines friendlies. Nice weather, good reception and nice alcohol.

Do we really want a pre season game versus a premiership 3-4th string side?

You know what its like, all the prem sides are tied up in the "outer hebrides athetic zenith data super cup" competition sponsored by lucozade. It is a must watch competition live on sky pay per view. The prem sides generally field a team of first and second team regulars in the round robin tournament.

When we draw a top side in the cup they only send a bunch of juniors and the odd has been down to play us.

I quite like going to places like hampton and crawley, having a foul burger and sitting in the sun watching all the football totty that always goes to Pre season games not wearing much!

Lets face it, games against hampton will be closer to the standard of our league opposition so we ,ay as well get some practice.

Im actualy quite looking forward for my annual trip to staines.

Staines and Hampton should be on the friendly list without a doubt :sorted:

Yeading was only a few mins away but a scarey Yeading posse drove us to stand behind the goal, Basingstoke, forget it, eaten alive by some horrible insects and still bear the scars. Crawley was quite good too, at least it was a decent ground. However, our other friendlies hsould be of better quality and someone should take responsibility for arranging these way in advance or making a clause when we sell on players, surely Reading must be cert for us ??
