Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

Here please.

How did Kevin O' play on his return?

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

Kevin O'Connor was fine but quite frankly it was a very poor game between two poor sides. The level of footballing skill was extremely low.

The weather went from sunshine and blue sky (and freezing) to very windy and snowy (and freezing).

Very pleased Shakes got two. He deserves it on his work rate alone.

Just wanted to get home and defrost.

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

Dire game even tho we won. AS is going to have to do plenty of work over the close season to get us into contention for even the payoffs next season

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

So good they praised him twice. Mousinho also good but has forgotten to how pass forwards.

A hard-fought, highly entertaining match between two strong sides going all out for 3 points. Is what I would have preferred.

A game only out-poored by the likes of the home matches against Bury and Dagenham, but the snow was nice and Shakes scoring two was lovely.

Simon Brown's punching :banghead:

We've played some matches really well this season and got bugger all out of them. Even though the ref was crap, the weather didn't suit our little boys and Wrexham kicked our players all over the park,

The ref was the sort of chap who tried to be amiable to all players, a bit of a Geography teacher type really, which Wrexham took full advantage of. Missed a lot, gave most of the rest the wrong way. Wouldn't give a yellow card for GBH that bloke.

Wouldn't surprise me if the club yet again points out to the FL that the refereeing standard was yet again awful.

One word ratings:

Brown - Woeful
Dickson - Consistent
Osborne - Quiet
Bennett - Good
Pead - Decent
Poole - Usual
Smith - Unlucky
Mousinho - Solid
O'Connor - Solid
Shakes - Deadly
Connell - Squashed
Elder - Strong

The match: Dire
The ref: Prat
The result: Yay

PS: The 1709 was running even though SWT insisted that it wasn't going to be when I called them earlier to check trains on the outward journey

Very poor game, very cold.

Please play Hamer on Monday, Brown nearly gave me a heart attack today.

That was the worst goalkeeping performance I've ever seen result in a clean sheet. Sure, the wind made it difficult, but the kicking was dreadful, and the succession of punches in the first half was comical.

Scrappy win and maybe the beautiful game it wasn't but I would have liked a few more of these this season in place of some of the worthy defeats.

Very poor conditions against a side like Macclesfield who came looking not to lose led to a bit of a struggle football wise. We kept plugging away and got a deserved lead when Shakes got his head on a loose ball after Connell should have scored.

Second goal was much relief after they just didn't clear their lines, nicely taken by Ricky.....thereafter we show boated and they gave up.....they are going down for sure, they had very little up front and their only chances came from our own keeper it seemed.

Thought ref was poor as well.

We needed a win and got it...end of

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

If Shakes had been a match winner like that more often I'd have more sympathetic to those who think he's done enough to stay here next season. It was poor but we didn't ever look like losing and we would have lost to them earlier in the season. It's not much fun but that is progress and Scott deserves some credit for that, as he does for making sure we don't get bogged down in more winless runs as we have over the past few years. Few players emerged with much credit but I do think Poole was better at protecting Dickson than he has recently. The injury to Smith probably helped up as it wasn't the type of game for Smith and Moose's running was important.

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

He deserves the door for his workrate and contribution generally. Two goals after our season is over, in a nothing game, should not save him. I sincerely hope not to see him next season.

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

Everyone around me thought that save by Brown at the start of the second of the half was over the line. Anyone else?

Most of the away end did. I was surprised they didn't score. No real surprise that they are where they are if they can't put 3 or 4 past that defence and keeper.

Time now for AS to drawing up a list on the players he wants to get rid of.
IMo, that list would be headed by Pead, followed by Brown, Osborne.
Hang on though it will be quicker for me to give my retained list.

Elder
KOC
Dickson
The Moose
Heywood
Smith
Reid.

Connell can go for a fee. 2nd div footballer he aint,

that's what they thought on Beesworld too!

couldn't be bothered to waste £30 today, end of season match, we've had 2 piss poor seasons, i hope next season gives us 'stayaways' something to go back to.

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

BBC Radio London flattered us by reporting that "the Bees were always in control and never ruffled."
A poor game albeit the conditions were difficult with a gusty highly variable swirling wind and a slippery pitch after the snow showers .
Brown was unconvincing - although he did make a good save in second half. Please pick Hamer for next match.
It was good to see KOC back and I thought he was influential - possibly our best player.
It was all a bit flat wasn't it? despite the two goals (Shakes took the second very well) which came at just the right time to knock the stuffing out of Wrexham.
Thought their fans did well bearing in mind they are almost certainly Conference bound and the distance from N Wales.
I am sure AS realises he will have to strengthen the side in the close season to have any chance of going up next year but he seems a pretty shrewd guy for one with so little managerial experience so you never know!

Connell is well worth his place IMO - holds the ball up well but often there is no one to lay it off to.
Also what about Poole? We need to keep him.

Was just behind it. Luckily for us it was right on the line. What a comedy of errors though. He should have been claiming it as it came into the area not making some kind of miraculous reflex save off the back of one of our lot.

We were not close to being convincing. A poor game and has anyone said how cold it was yet?

I like Elder and Connell but can't see how they can form a killer partnership for next year. Needs some work despite Elder being tireless and winning most things in the air and Connell being full of skill the two just don't gel.

KOC makes a real difference. The back four and keeper still look too fragile too much of the time.

Was pleased for Ricky but doubt we'll see him here next year.

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

A poor game between two poor sides in crap conditions which doesn't excuse our performance.

Brown was shocking TBH particularly with his handling and on another day against a better side he would have been punished. He's got to go to make way for a new keeper next season.

Osbourne and Bennett didn't have much to do but coped against Broughton's aerial challenge. Dickson overlapped a little with Poole and was ok. Pead had a much better game than of late and denied them an equaliser in the second half when he got back to intercept when a player was clean through.

Smith looked ok until injured (challenge appeared studs up), O'Connor worked hard, Mousinho spent the afternoon passing backwards or sideways and Poole put in some extra effort for a change. Shakes still flatters to deceive despite 2 goals and he really needs to improve the accuracy of his crossing.

Up front Connell worked hard and Elder was easily MOM for his running and heading. Just a shame there was rarely anyone to join him up front.

We got the 3 points which was good but I worry about the passion and commitment from some of our players again. Only one loanee today so this side needs to prove themselves to AS before it's too late.

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

Spot on. This is the major area of concern - and has been for several matches. we miss Heywood - and Pead is not as good as Starosta was for us in the first half of the season.
I guess since Brown is on a two year contract (? ) we've got him for next season as well?

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

Not much good to say about the game. Obvious why Wrexham are going down - they must be the worst side we have played this season.

Not many of ours managed to raise their game to anything resembling League 2 standard though -notable exceptions Mousinho when he came on, O Connor did OK and my Man of the Match Elder who if he did nothing else successfully managed to wind up both the opposing Goalkeeper and Centre Half, neither of whom seemed to think it was fair that he kept winning the ball in the air.

Anyway, welcome 3 points.

Oh and one last thing. Simon Brown is appallingly bad. Can we have Hamer back next week please. As for next season, anyone but Brown.

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

Is this the most depressing set of match reports for a win of all time?

PS Not saying its not justified.

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

Wrexham were 100 times better than the shower of sh*te we beat at their place. Anyone who keeps saying that the Mous is crap is an idiot.
He came on and sprayed the ball about with 2 superb long balls out to the marauding Milky Shakes whilst winning everything he had to win in the midfield battle. Elder was his constant menace and Brown is a joke.

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

I quite enjoyed Elder's continuous merking of there number 28 lol

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

On that show. We've a lot to work to do to escape this division next season.

Can't for the life of me understand why we were playing the ball in the air for most of the first half. On a couple of occaisions the wind was so strong the ball was going backwards. Looked a lot more comfortable with the ball on the deck. It ain't rocket science! Pleased for Ricky today. He deserved his goals from the work rate he put in. Agree about brown. Although he did save well after he had initially dropped the ball.

Fair play to the 465 Wrexham supporters. Made a bit of noise. A long way to come when you're propping up the division.

And yeah, it was bl**dy cold!!

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

Cold. Didn't enjoy it much today - it felt like end of the season but without the weather. A workmanlike performance and tbh we would have to have been fecking awful to have lost to them.

Brown - Not great I agree but he did make one fantastic one-handed reflex save - only trouble is it was from his own mistake which I guess sums him up.
Pead - Having been through a lean spell, I was worried but I shouldn't have been. I thought he had a very good game defensively and was far better in possession than of late.
Dickson - Did his job well. Still missing that spark that he first had but competent enough despite that.
Osborne - Mixed bag in some cases but defensively pretty sound.
Bennett - Good defender.

O'Connor - Made a big difference today - lots of tackles and it was interesting to see that he was often the first to double up when being attacked down the flanks. Looks as though he really understands his job.
Mousinho - Added energy to the side, some good distribution and strong around the field. The midfield didn't suffer at all for him being in it.
Shakes - Two goals, couple of good runs and crosses, good workrate defensively. Within his limitations, he did all he could.
Poole - I think he played better than of late although was still on the periphery a bit.

Connell - A bit off his game today I thought - some of the touches and flicks didn't quite work. Still glad he kept trying them though.
Elder - Jeez that mans head must hurt at the end of a game. Really like him, just wish he had at least one winger who could put in consistent crosses from the flanks to use that power in the box rather than outside it.

MoM - My car heater.

Nathan was surely MOM in a very forgettable afternoon - apart from the weather. It was great to have KOC back, and some of Mous's passing when he came on was pretty thoughtful - and accurate. Karleigh was solid. That's all to say, sadly. Roll on the end of the season, as this squad isn't really performing.

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

very poor from both sides we were just less crap than them and please dont play that song after shakes scores again not that he probably will

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

It goes to show how bad Wrexham are that their best player was Drewe Broughton. Can't believe Brian Little is too happy about getting a relegation onto his CV, but Wrexham were utterly hopeless and unable to score even when we presented them with chances on a plate. What exactly was our goalkeeper doing in the first half, just watching the ball onto the bar and then punching it from one side of the goal to the other?

Jeez it was cold! :shiversmilie:

i don't think this GPG'er goes to many games, his opinion comes from listening to Beesworld most of the time.

It will be interesting to see as to who AS keeps.

Love Connell and Elder...but together

I don't know...like others have posted today......played a lot better and lost , am glad we got a sort of decent win, a win is a win - not disappointed and missed all the snow in the 2nd half....Stripes is a nice and toastie place :sorted:

Bloody fair weather supporters ;)

Actually I wasn't as cold as I have been recently, even though it was chilly, perhaps because the wind wasn't whipping around New Road as much as it has the last few matches.
Looking forward to a lie in tomorrow and Monday though :sorted:

The visitors failed to clear a long throw and Elder and Connell combined to feed Shakes on the far side, he lashed the ball past Ward to give The Bees an Easter Saturday win.
lol lol No one fed it to him. It bobbled out to him on the edge of the box and he lashed it between their keeper's legs :)

Oh and please, no more music when we score. We are not an ice hockey team.

Yes it was a poor game but what could one expect taking into account the opposition, the pitch and the wind.
The majority of the match was played within 10 yards of the braemar stand due to the strong winds blowing in that direction. All goals kicks ended up there, resulting in some head tennis before a throw in happened. Then the ball was thrown long for some more head tennis...that was the game!
Couldn't really blame the players for struggling to get it down. The flight of the ball was often hard to read, the pitch was poor and there was little time and space for the midfielders to pass.
Mousinho played ok and actually spread the play on 2 occasions (more than any other player).
Brown is pretty sh*t. Letting a free kick bounce in the area onto the bar was a joke. Then on the next free kick he came out flapping, totally missing the ball.
Everyone else was solid and competed well which was needed on a day of little quality.

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

Two very poor teams in poor conditions.

Getting a bit pissed off with Connells lack of getting in proper chalenges and winning one 50-50. I think he should go back to basics and start with completing a pass or holding on to the ball. The 1 in 5 flick which comes off is just simply giving the ball away. Ditto for Poole.

Like to see Elder be a touch greedier with heading chances or am I being harsh.

Brown is crap and should be outed ASAP.

I know conditions were pretty hard, but where's the flippin' football gone? Good 3 points, but I wonder when (or if) we are going to start playing again. I hope to god Andy Scott is gonna rid us of at least half of this sh*tty lot before next season. Connell's got to stop believing that he has some god given right to get round a defender, I fear he may end up like Ide, way too big for his white boots. Nathan should be sent for the op now, ready to be a massive threat next season. Good to see Kev back too.
Is it me, but don't you reckon we have the most homosexual looking squad in League Two?

Broughton only got the captain's armband after their first captain went off and handed it to the gypo in centre midfield who then realised he was being subbed as well lol

Pretty much go along with that succinct summary. Not sure why all the negativity about the result. It wasn't pretty but we were losing games like that in the first half of the season. Wrexham's league position and the conditions weren't conducive to good football. We haven't much to play for yet still put in the effort against a side fighting for their life so AS is obviously keeping them on their toes.

Brown's performance was dodgy and would hope to see Hamer back in. Kev did well in the middle, and Mous did well in the conditions. Think Connell and Elder can work as a partnership given time.

Drewe has always loved his armbands. He ended the game with one on each wrist, one on each ankle hidden beneath his socks, a captains armband which must have made him horny and a cock ring on his old chap.

If you think it was cold today then you didn't make that glorious trip to North Wales this season. Only twice in my life have I thought I couldn't do 90 minutes in that cold, one was at York in the cup and one was at Wrexham this season.

They must think that Ricky Shakes is the best player in the league, he changed the game at their place and did his demolishion job today.

Brentford V Wrexham Reports and Reaction...

lol NB. He's a poor man's Fletcher, which is pretty low :D
