really chuffed with the result. Vale has always been a tough place to get a result-I've been there 3 times and 1 was a draw. AS certainly knows how to cobble a team together when injuries strike. Very pleased for Osborne. I have posted on the GPG in his defence and his loan spell has obviously done him and the team a lot of good. 3-0 does no harm in terms of goal difference and it makes a change seeing Bees punish a 10 man team. Well done all and looking forward to the big game on Sat

As usual I listened to the game on BeesWorld. Even so I still felt a strong feeling of pride in our performance today and cant wait for reaction and comments from the fans that went.
MB and CW nominated Osborne as the Mom today which was very pleasing as I've been a big critic of him. If I was allowed to vote for MoM it would be between KO and Marcus Bean.It must be said though that every man played his part today.
Now bring on Darlington.

Vale seems to be a place where seemingly unpopular, crap players in the eyes of the majority of supporters score in a winning Bees side. Last win (four years ago ?) Eddie Hutch got the winner in a 1-0 win.

I may be wrong but that was our first win there in 50 years I thought!!!

I know this Guildford. I was referring to that if you see what I wrote and what I quoted :)

FFS! What is wrong with you TW1. How can you not grasp my point, you are a teacher and this is therefore scary.:fishing:

I am saying that the EDDIE HUTCHINSON GAME WHERE WE WON 1-0 about three or four years ago was possibly our first win there in 50 years.

Therefore to say its the sort of place we always nick wins is quite wrong

Bees v Port Vale Reports and Reaction

We won and we won without really playing well. It was a bizzare game, Karleigh was outstanding and took some much stick but shoved it up them and obviously scored but also made them take off Edwards who was their tricky winger. There was no point to him continuing as KO had him. Bean was superb again and Charlie worked his balls off. Vale had loads of ball and passed nicely but didn't have any efforts on goal apart from a couple of free kicks in the first half that were crap. Phillips did nothing wrong and Bennett could have walked for an early elbowish challenge but we stayed strong at the back and never looked like conceding. We could and maybe should have scored more and I would take a scrappy 1-0 win but it's a good win but not one to go too mental over. I loved the day and had a good laugh with 3 points thrown in and one of the better weekends in recent times but 3-0 doesn't really sum up the game that fairly, you know those games when it goes against us , well today it went our way and long may that continue.
Poole was poor once again.

To the Karleigh and Bean knockers.....lollol enjoy your humble pie as these 2 were brilliant today.:sorted::sorted:

Sighty off this thread what crowd do yo think for next weeks match with darlo and return of the G/H Markbfc?????:fishing:::wave::wave::wave::do you think we could top 5500??

Bees v Port Vale Reports and Reaction

Woeful first 25 minutes then Vale had a player harshly sent off. Osborne was then roundly booed for his role in staying down (despite Vale's number 9 doing a similar thing earlier) which turned him into a different player and got the first goal turning in a corner. We scored our second from a corner (and our set pieces are normally dire) through Bean. We could have closed the game out with a couple of good chances but in stoppage time MacDonald finished the job.

3-0 was slightly harsh on Vale but on balance a deserved 3 points for us.

Don't be so sensitive Nocoat I wasn't questioning your comment at all but as a teacher I would probably write a comment at the foot of the page to the effect "Be more specific young man. What are you referring to, today's match or the afore mentioned fixture in January 2005?".

No hard feelings mate at all just good banter.

BTW Moved away? Certainly not, got to let the equity on my house in Strawberry Hill build up a bit more.

Bees v Port Vale Reports and Reaction

I thought it was an excellent performance to be honest, leaving aside the first 15 minutes when we never got a hold on the game at all. The sending off certainly changed the game but by then we were in the ascendancy anyway. My initial reaction was that the decision was harsh, especially in light of the Bennett incident when he could easily have walked, but I was assured by a Vale Steward that the guy caught Karleigh high and late and that he agreed that a red was warranted.

Vale actually responded well to going a man down and for 10 or so minutes after the sending off it wasn't obvious that they were a man short. However, we scored at exactly the right time, albeit difficult to see what actually happened as it was at the far end, it looked like Karleigh smashed the loose ball home from a corner.

The second half was pretty comfortable in truth. We allowed Vale plenty of the ball but restricted them for the most part to playing the balll around in areas which couldn't hurt us. The fact that they registered only one meaningful effort on target all game (I think) is testament to the way in which the defence played and the manner in which the midfield competed, winning the tackles when necessary and forcing them back towards their own goal with excellent pressure.

As for the goals, our second came from a wonderful Poole corner which was met with a thumping nearpost header from Marcus. This effectively killed Vale off and both Charlie Mac and Bowditch should've increased our lead before Charlie grabbed an excellent third at the death following a great run down the right from Newton.

A great day out, some really good performances, especially from Karleigh and Bean, with the latter having by far and away his best game for us I thought. Darlington will be a real test on Saturday but I fancy us to come away with a decent result if we can turn in another performance like that. :sorted:

Great performance all round, don't remember Hamer having to make a save of any note.

Bees v Port Vale Reports and Reaction

Loads of positives off the back of today's result. This could be a very important 3 points in the context of the season and it was a job VERY well done in my opinion.

Great to see the changes Andy made paying off and the squad able to cope with injuries and the loss of JW. This should give us confidence going into the Darlo game.

BRING BACK THE GLORYHUNTER!!!!

GH is a Bee yeah GH is a Bee yeah la la la la, la la la la...

Fair play to Scott for taking Elder off. He had got a nothing yellow in the 1st half and the crowd were screaming for the numbers to be levelled. Nathan's game is obviously built on aggression and looked a tackle or slight push away from a red IMO.

Bees v Port Vale Reports and Reaction

I also saw you waving at AS Northampton!

quite right about bennett he could have easily gone for that elbow guess we got lucky. dont think their guy should have gone, blatant 50-50 and we got lucky could easily have been KO who won the ball and followed through and then walked....... fair play to KO was dubious before hand (where was halls?) as not really a fan but he shoved the critics right down my throat and relished the opportunity. Bean was superb - he wanted to win every tackle and wanted to get forward - more of the same please. Kev - jee wizz does the simple stuff so well that no one notices, breaks it up, keeps it simple far better captain than Newts.

Good choice by AS to sub elder who i personally didnt think had a good game? looked likely to walk under the dodgy ref so good idea to sub. did hamer make a save???? dont think so. cant believe we finally won there. Nocoat how long has it been???

anyway onwards and upwards

Bees v Port Vale Reports and Reaction

The sending off reminded me of O'Connor's earlier in the season.

If you've watched football for 15-20 years you wonder what it's for but under the new rules if you are reckless and late you are in trouble - that tackle was both (was two footed as well I think).

Bees v Port Vale Reports and Reaction

Wasn't a great first half, but we were looking good in the second, they never really looked like troubling us in the second half and ran out of ideas.

Glad Macdonald got a goal as he works so hard and doesn't really get the service he deserves. Thought Karleigh was excellent and seemed to improve as the game went on and the crowd boo'd him.

all Bees (including Glenn Poole) outstanding today - well done lads................

Bees v Port Vale Reports and Reaction

Well done today, i thought it was one of those strange games where everything seemed to go against us. Dont know what you thought but for most of the first half i thought we were well on top, played some decent football but created nothing in the final third. Then the sending off, completely changed the game. We yet again played with 1 up front in Mark Richards, it has looked wonderfully away for us this year but anyone can see it is not going to work at home and is too negative.
Thought your right back did well, (think it was Osbourne?) come under a lot of stick but dealt with it well. Main reason for that was that when Davidson got sent off for us, he stayed down and made a lot of it (Not seen a replay yet, but in all fairness thought it was a red card offence, but seen them given as yellows before). When your defender elbowed Richards, that was also a blatent red card offence but Richards didnt roll around on the floor and make a meal of it, that is probally why your defender didnt get sent and ours did. The ref was very poor today though and very inconsistant, cant remember the last time we had a decent ref in this league, dont know about you, but he gave everything to you today.
For all our posession and passing i dont think we had a shot on target all game, whereas you took your 3 goals well. At the moment we cant buy a win at home and cant lose away, if we could get any sort of form going at home we could make a push for the play offs.
Hope you had a good day out and a safe journey home, see you at Griffin Park for the return fixture.
Good luck for the rest of the season, would be nice to see a Vale v Brentford play off final at Wembley in May ;) so we can have another good day out like we did for the LDV Vans final in Cardiff :D

Very true unfortunatly, they were even fighting with each other today. Appartently some fans were booing one of our young players that came on and someone said to them, stop booing and give him a chance as he is only 18. The Chavs then spat at this lad and hit him so it all kicked off. Not a good day for us. At least Stoke got battered at Old Trafford ;) If they would have won i would never have heard the last of it at work on monday.

Compared to a lot of the poor efforts of away followings we`ve seen this year it wasnt bad. Accrington only brought about 40 lol
I think we will probally bring about 600 to your place. Had a decent following this year, took 1000 to Shrewsbury, 1200 to Chester and 1400 to Huddersfield even though they are only down the road compared to London.

Bees v Port Vale Reports and Reaction

For the first half hour we we were not at the races. The sending off did change the game, but hey these things iron theselves over a season ;)

I am not his greatest fan but Bean was superb today. His work rate and hunger to win was superb and ranked alongside Chesterfield as his best games for the club.

Dickson was solid,Charlie worked hard but Elder sorry yet again a yard off the pace.

We need to keep this momentum going.Six goals on the road is good going :sorted:

All in all a worthwhile trip :)

Bees v Port Vale Reports and Reaction

There's been reference made to the sending off that was given but perhaps wouldn't have been by some refs and the sending off that could have been given but wasn't but there was a more clear cut incident than both of these two in my opinion.

How about when Newton was totally cleaned out by the centre half in the move that led to our 3rd goal? Surely it was only Charlie scoring that prevented the ref showing him red. It was a disgusting challenge by a man that seemed to have forgotten that it was the ball he was meant to be kicking :nono: It's unacceptable that he seemed to get away scott free.

If the ref did interpret Bennetts action as an elbow then i'd say we were very lucky that he didnt go but i'd disagree with valiant about the reaction of Richards - he certainly stayed down long enough for the ref to get a good idea of what had (allegedly) happened but Richards did ultimately get what he deserved for his subsequent winking and pouting at the Bees fans :sorted:

Bees v Port Vale Reports and Reaction

I didnt see the sending off, but to me Osborne's never come across as the type of player thats feigns injury to get the opponent sent off.

Bees v Port Vale Reports and Reaction

Just a very professional performance. We utilised the width of the pitch & the extra man to wear them down and the second half didn't see them threaten us once...and I do mean not once!

The first half wasn't a spectacle but we were just starting to look the better team when the deserved sending off took place. The stick Karleigh took was really OTT and scoring that goal on the stroke of h-t was sheer bliss, his technique spot on. The keeper nearly saved it but the force of the shot took it over the line.

Our second goal came just at the right time and was just what Marcus deserved. His performance was simply outstanding, he won so many loose balls and distributed well. The bullet header from Pooles corner was delicious :)

When Nathan came off, Newton came on to go right midfield and Deano went upfront. You just knew we'd get more chances and Charlie hit the post and their keeper made a good save from Bowditch.

The determination that Newton showed to win TWO takles to set up Charlies 3rd was immense and just what AS would have been delighted about. Mac finished easily, simply to round off a great afternoon.

Hamer - 6 - never realy threatened

Karleigh - 9 - Kept Edwards quiet and produced a mature performance. The day KO arrived.

Dickson -7 - tracked back well and bombed forward to make the extra man when he could

Phillips - 7 Another good 90 mins. Booked for a strong challenge but always looked in control and made some good long passes.

Benno -6 - Might have been a tad fortunate to get the benefit of the doubt over the Richards challenge but solid -

Bowditch - 7 - Intelligent, classy and played in the wide right position very well.

Bean - 9 - Fantastic performance

KOC- 7 - Broke up play well, made a couple of poor passes early on but both he his misfield partner were in total control

Poole - 6 -Still suffering with that ankle imho. Great delivery for the second goal

Mac -7 - Ran the angles, created chances in the second half, took his goal well, great to get his first away goal in the league.

Elder - 6 - Still learning, we need more from him but you just know defenders dont like playng against him

Having seen the TV footage the red card challenge looks worse (certainly more head-on and therefore more dangerous impact) than it seemed at the time.
