unless the old chestnut of loan with a permanent deal in January, like Griffiths the full back posh have just signed from D & R.

In all seriousness I think we have to accept that Ryan Dickson's name is going to appear in the gossip columns this January.

I'd be pleased if we can get through January without losing him - I'd be amazed if we can get through with him teid up to a long term deal.

I vaguely recall that he is out of contract in the summer - my question would be, if we are in a reasonable position, looking safe, should we sell him in January rather than take our chances at a tribunal in the summer?

I presume by not sorting out an extension of his contract pre-season, we will get mugged for any price come January, or the fact that he will walk for free at the end of the season..? or will his age demand a fee..?

There does seem a tendency to 'sell off' our better players on the GPG! It's a good thing that Ryan is associated with every rumour in L1/Championship about Left Backs, just like it's a good thing that AS is linked to upward moves, we really wouldn't want it otherwise... but I think we'd better stop voting for him on the MoM threads!

I have been banging on about his contract for donks, I sh*t myself when he got down to 2 years left! We best enjoy Ryan as sadly his days with us are numbered.

Longer contract could of increased his transfer value but was he offered one?

Did he want an extension if it reduces his options / bargaining power? :fishing:

Who knows, I'm not blaming anyone for anything. He hasn't signed a new deal and that's all I need to know. I'm sure we offered but equally sure he can see beyond us.

A mate of mine (Plymouth supporter) reckoned at the time Argyle were stupid beyond belief to let him come to us. He also forecasted that one day we would sell him for a six figure fee. Anyone know if Plymouth have a sell on clause?

Which is why you should try and keep your good young players on decent length contracts. As it stands his value is diminishing the nearer we get to the end of the season, when he can leave and let a tribunal decide a fee.
If he goes in January it won't be for anywhere near the value he would have if he still had 2 years to run. The only hope would be that a few clubs want him and get the price up a bit.

Nobody has owned up to the Turner one so what makes you think someone will disclose anything about this one? Better off asking Plymouth :rolleyes:

Just hope we,ve learnt and get a fair deal if / when it happens. :)

I have never seen Blake play...how much of a prospect is he? I would feel a lot happier knowing we have a left back coming through to fill the gap who at least has the potential to replace Dicko.

I've been impressed by Blake but Sam Wood will have to step up as a left back unless we buy someone else

I disagree. Sam Wood was a bit of a liability at full back when Dickson was out. Blake has been getting good reviews in the reserves, let's see what he can do first. Perhaps he won't be up to it, but we have had younger players than him playing regular first team football before.

exactly. The CB's are a huge problem, wood struggled at LB, give the boy a go it can't get any worse!

I know what you mean & it would be great if he agreed a new contract but for him personally would this make sense ? If he is tied to a contact and therefore worth more to BFC with regards to a transfer fee this could mean he is likely to get offered a lesser contract from any future employer. :shrug:

What? It's generally spot on about stuff like that. It's when it comes to predicting how good players are/how good they're going to be that it gets unreliable.

I was referring to us signing him for £20k with no sell-on, not Leeds in some mythical FM future, in case you were confused.

He has been outstanding for us as an attacking LB and is certainly destined for bigger and better things. His partnership with Sam Wood down the left last season was very good too. If he were to go we could only wish him all the best. I bet we get absolutely shafted on the fee though, as per normal.

Its good to see the club are trying to pre-empt any offer. Makes a change from being in the position of having to let players go who are out of contract. Hope Dickson signs and if he leaves hope we get decent compensation.

Without knowing how good our offer is I wonder if RD or his agent feel it will be beneficial to resign with us. Certainly expect them to hold fire for the time being.

He has little to lose, he knows any decent offer and he will be sold anyway and this can be incorporated into his contract if he wants.

The certainty of a longer contract with us must be wlecome in the current climate and with his injury record.
