Leyton Orient Match Reports and Reaction

Started like a house on fire, great goal from Bean and smart move from Bean and Weston left Gary Alex with an open goal 2-0.

We dominated the half and looked like we could easily get 4/5 but then Lee makes a smart save from Cox with his face it looked like but from what ive heard Karleigh has crocked him and he has to go off, major blow for Lee and for us as its probably an end of season job..totally gutting.

Orient controlled the first 20 minutes of the 2nd half and pulled a sloppy goal back from a corner and I was waiting for the equaliser but credit to us we held firm and if it wasn't for a wonder save by the keeper from Reid and a mis of the century from Geoffrey then it would have been a lot more comfortable.

Good to see Wood back and Moore did well but I guess Foz will have to get a keeper in now.

Shame all the other teams at the bottom also won though

Great game of football. We had enough chances to have led at least 3-0 at HT. Second half, they came at us and Moore made two excellent saves but their keeper saved point blank from Reeves and then Schlupp missed the biggest sitter I've seen in ages. Overall a deserved win and the football keeps coming. I think Fozzy should have taken Alexander of after about 60 mins as he looked shot. But hey ho - entertainment.

Leyton Orient Match Reports and Reaction

Fully deserved win but my word did we make hard work of what should have been a comfortable victory!

The first half I thought we were outstanding, the first 30 minutes were by far the best we've played under Nicky Forster since he's been in charge and we were so comfortable it was almost surreal. I can't remember a more dominant and comfortable first half then what we saw today, right at them from the word go and Orient barely forced an attack until about 35 minutes into the game.

When I saw the starting line up I was worried and a bit disappointed. I said after tuesday that Alexander needed a rest and would have been tempted to start with Schlupp and Bignall today but Forster got everything spot on today. Alexander led the line superbly, he was really up for it against his old club, bullied the centre backs and enjoyed a bit of aggro with Whing the full back. Him and Grabban linked up superbly I thought and Grabban's movement is gettin better and better. Bean also was playing further forward than normal, almost off the front two at times with Reed tucking in from the right hand side to cover the middle.

Alexander won a crucial header that split the centre backs as Bean came bombing through on goal. I can't say I was too confident but ignored a pass to weston and hit a sweet left foot half volley into the corner of the net. We were in front and we deserved it. Grabban had a shot scrambled off the line and Legge almsot scored from a corner. We added a second when Weston, who gave Whing the run around all game, found space and fired a low cross to the back post for alexander to slam into the roof of the net. I couldn't believe how well we were playing and all of this against the in form side who barely mustered a chance in the opening spells. The game's crucial moment came just before half time, Lee and Osborne threw themselves to block a goalbound effort and seemed to collide with Lee landing awkwardly. A goal saving save but to what cost. He didn't need the stretcher but walked off holding his arm and shoulder and he must be a huge doubt for wembley which is so sad.

We started the second half sloppily allowing Orient to push on and the defence seemed a little unease with the less experienced Moore between the sticks than the more reliable Lee. It took just ten minutes for them to get one back, another free header from a set piece allowed mcgleish to hook the ball into the net and it was game on. They pushed us back and it was hard to believe it was the same two teams out there who'd competed the first half. Moore made a smart save low down but we really should have gone three maybe four up with two great chances. Reed, who was outstanding, ran with the ball, fed and alexander who played a lovely one two with reed into the box only for their keeper to fling a left hand at his shot and somehow keep out. Then with Schlupp having just come on, his pace allowed him to run onto a great alexander flick, out pacing their centre backs, his first shot was blocked by the keepers legs but the rebound fell back to him and with a virtual open goal, he somehow off balanced flicked his shot against the bar and over. It really was a 'how did he miss' head in hands moment.

We became nervy and the Orient's substitutions posed a big threat but thankfully Legge was a rock for us. Orient's final chance came and went thanks to an outstanding save from Moore, another free header was aimed to what looked like the top corner but Moore flung himself to his left and tipped it round for a corner. It was a match winnin save and seemed to deflate Orient knowing their chancehad gone. We held out the stoppage pretty comfortably with Wood being allowed to stretch his legs after a few months out.

A pulsating game, when at half time it all looked so comfortable. I guess it really was the 'game of two halves' that lower league football has become accustomed too. What pleased me the most was the amount of chances we created in open play, probably more than we did in the Hartlepool, Brighton, Charlton and Huddersfield games put together. I always think its more of a worry when you aren't creating chances rather than just missing chances. We could have scored a hatful today but had to settle for two.

Schlupp will have nightmares about that miss but he really does look a talent and may well get a start on friday. His pace gives us so many options, we could play balls down the channels and over the centre backs knowing he'd get there first and allow us to push up the field quicker.

Reed looks a serious player and so comfortable in either central or right midfield. He's the midfielder we've been crying out for all season, it was great seeing him drift inside and look for a clever pass, he should have scored too but he started the move himself so can't be too critical. I was worried we'd miss Woodman but Neilson is a classy player who settle in smoothly and thought kev was solid at right back. Myles had their right back in his pocket and they had to take him off second half he was getting such a roasting.

However my man of the match was Leon Legge. It would be nice to have our attackin players take all the plaudits but this guy put in a towering display and I don't think we'd have survived at the end without his domince. Don't think he lost a header all game. I just hope we can get him tied down to a longer contract. Special praise for Moore for coping well and that save near the end. An excellent first half, slightly inconsistent second half but we have a young side and a young manager. Lets be patient. It is far better to watch than it was a couple of months back. Up to 11th now. A psychological victory on friday would be great going in to Wembley.

Onwards and upwards!

really good game. we had it sewen up and were playing great football but then lee got injured and they got back into it . we sorted ourselves out legge and osborne were brilliant and we were very unlucky not to score in the second half ,there keeper made a great save and jeff hit the bar. grabban played well but jeff looks very good i thought.

Leyton Orient Match Reports and Reaction

For some reason Orient decided to play everything short from their keeper and for the first 35 minutes he barely kicked a ball long, threw it or side-footed it to a defender or Cox generally within 25 yards of his own goal. We pressed high up the pitch and they kept giving us the ball in terribly dangerous positions which we capitalised upon.

What made them play like this God only knows but it was total kamikaze and cost them the game. Once they started playing longer they more than matched us and the second half was a very even contest but we should have been out of site at least 3-0 up at the break.

By any standards this is a good win. Good to here that confidence is flowing back into the team.

Leyton Orient Match Reports and Reaction

Great first half - by far the better team. Shaky 20 minutes but as Moor grew in confidence so did the team. Shocking miss by Jeffrey (who looks a real prospect to be fair) and a very good save from their keeper off Reed kept it to a narrow win.

I've never seen such a ridiculous tactic in my life. I can understand the wish to build from the back, but once it became patently obvious that it was playing straight into our hands, I'm absolutely astonished they persisted with it for so long. Their fans must have been going crazy.

Good account of the game.

Think Lees injury will have played on players minds and sure that's why the 2nd half saw O's dominate without too many dangerous chances.

We should have been out if sight by half time but we don't do it the easy way do we?
Marcus played like Bryan Robson first half and was driving us on with good movement in front from both GA and Lewis.

Thought Cox ran the 2nd half like Sam S has been fior us recently but fortunately they lack any quality up front as well so despite a sloppy goal from the corner they didn't really threaten and had fewer chances than us.
By the end it should have been 4 -1 but for a remarkable save and the Schlupp shot onto the bar. Having said that I think he'll bd a nightmare to contain with his pace and I'd start him alongside GA and see how we get on.

Man of the match probably Leon again as solid as a rock and won every header and even distribution was decent today.

49 points and now we're nailed on safe suspect we'll relax and luck and goals will follow. Sure we'll spank someone soon, let's hope it starts a week Sunday.

Great performance all over the pitch, as has been said we ripped them apart for first 30 or so but they also let us take the game to them
I really hope Richard can make final

Leyton Orient Match Reports and Reaction

I saw reasons last Tuesday why NF should perhaps not get the Managers job full time - Well today I saw a style of football during the first half that screams out that he should get it.

As time passes the players are becoming more and more used to actually passing the ball and having Bean in midfield with the freedom to go forward (As stated by Bean himself) gives us more options in a game than Scott'a tactics would have produced in 6.

Jeffrey is indeed a talent and he created several opportunities because of his sheer pace - Opportunities that have perhaps been there all season by GA/Mac/Grabben do not have the pace to match Jeffrey.

1st half then was superb, 2nd half not so good and their goal was due to very sloppy defending. Jeffrey missed an absoulte sitter after being on the pitch for about 30 seconds (He will never ever miss another like that) and Reed was denied by a reflex save that 99 times out of a hundred would have been a goal. I did not feel however that we were ever going to lose the game so thank God our young keeper made a terrific save about 10 minutes from time - I actually thought it was in and then his hand appeared !

Thanks for a very entertaining game of football !! :)

Entertaining game. Plenty of chances. Will we ever score more than 2 at home in the League this season? Jeffrey missed a sitter but nobody else would have got there to miss it - he is like lightning. I would start him with Alexander next week.

Was worried when I saw the team but they all stuck to their tasks. Was that really Marcus Bean playing so influentially! Reed is quality.

A good 3 points against an in form side although in the first half I couldn't work out how they were on such a good run with a comedy defence.

Absolutely gutted for Lee if he is going to miss Wembley. Undeserved

Leyton Orient Match Reports and Reaction

Excellent first half and the movement leading up to the second goal was top top class.
Second half we seemed to stop playing. I think the balance of the team was all wrong, not down to Nicky with so many injuries. Robbie Neilson did a decent job at left back but we badly missed his attacking from RB, O'Connor doesn't get forward and offers nothing attack minded. Also missed Sam Saunders big time, and Reed was unable to make any real impression playing wide right. Get SS and CW back and Reed in the middle and we'll beat Carlisle..............twice !

Spot on!
What were they doing, I have no idea!
Do they think their the Arsenal of the lower leagues??
If that was my team playing like that I would have no finger nails left!

Brilliant first 45minutes, so comfortable and brought the game to Orient.
Grabban was a handfull upfront and was really impressed by his performance.
Neilson had a solid game at left back, was gutted to not see Woodman in the team, would have been some achievement to play every minute of a busy season!
Reed looks a very decent player with a good future in the game im sure, we needed him from the start of the season.
Legge was brilliant all game, but had 4 or 5 headers from corners where he could have scored.
Great to see Woody back, came on at the right time as we needed to battle and chase things down to stop an equaliser.
How Geoff missed that I dont know :( cant believe he hit the bar, looked a nailed on goal from NR.

First half reminded me of the Hudds game at home last season, shame 2nd half wasnt as good but we did what we had to do.

A sickening blow for us as well. Carlisle have improved immensely over the past two years and we're going to need our best side that day.

On a happier note, throwing a spanner in Orient's play-off works is one of the unlikelier highlights of the season so far.

Leyton Orient Match Reports and Reaction

Brilliant first half, tippy tappy with real purpose and so good to watch. The hope is that we improve the players but retain that sort of football methinks, Myles was on fire and made Whing look dreadful which led to much pisstake from The Paddock. Alexander and Grabban were both lively, Bean and Dave controlled the midfield, KO and Legge were so dominant that Orient hardly got into our half. Good character to hold on after the inevitable change of play after the restart, Jeffrey should have scored, should have set one up (had he looked up) but an exciting 15 minutes of fun.
Reed is not a winger, he's a very good CM but not a winger IMO and Orient had more there than they usually have at home against us!
A well deserved and well celebrated 3 points.

Again I feel that was money well spent, the bees were magic first half today, the only reason Oriont got back into it was when our keeper had to go off. Our defence then got shaky as moore then had to come on and his 2nd half performance has done him the world of good. What a different keeper to the one I saw at Carlisle opening day of the season. Can we put in a cheeky bid in for Adam Reed, what a good footballer, funny how forster can see what scott clearly could not. I also agree with JT of bfc fair play to Jeffrey for getting there, nobody else would have, our defenders agin played well and has been said karleigh and Leon were well on the money. The whole team played well today, and thats what playing football brings. Fans will come back once that they have seen the standard of fayre on offer. Well done to all involved at BFC, this is what most of us want to see.

Orient were remarkably bad in that first half. More like a pub team. Their players looked slow in comparison to ours and Myles ripped them apart. The Lee injury seemed to take the wind out of everyone.

I assumed their keeper had a leg injury and so couldnt kick but as he kicked everything in the second half it must have been tactical. Not sure about Slades comments on BBC, but on the OPlayer he squarely says we were much better in the first half, they were better in the second but could not do enough to get back into it, fair enough analysis.

Leyton Orient Match Reports and Reaction

Another good reason to use Geoff is that with his pace we might actually get someone into the box in time for Weston's crosses. Very frustrating when Miles has to prance about waiting for someone to lumber up the pitch.
Sod's law Wembley goes to pens and we don't have Lee. Get better quick mate.
Heard some Os on Ealing Road complaining about ending their run playing a team that didn't play football! Did they touch the ball first half? And, yes, excellent run of form of late but matches against them have been some of the worst displays I've ever seen in recent years with them dragging us down to their normally very low level.

I was very impressed with our tactics and set up today. It involved Bean playing a long way up the park and us only pressing at certain times - I don't think I understood it tbh but I think it was done for a reason, and it worked.

Anyway, my match report is that I had a fantastic morning coaching a really dedicated boys team and then a beautiful balmy afternoon in front of a decent, happy crowd - both teams wanted to try and play the right way and after a lively, incident packed encounter the Bees were deserved won against local rivals. That's what Saturday's should be for - a lovely bottle of wine to finish and I'm a very happy man.

Leyton Orient Match Reports and Reaction

A good win against the divisions form team. We won it with an excellent first half when we could have sown it up with 3 or 4.

Orient play it deep, it is their style and has stood them well so far but with Bean pushing upfield it semeed to disorientate them. Second half they increasingly hit it long which suited us.

They had a golden 20 minutes in the second half when we hardly touched the ball, then Reed, I think it was, went on a run and the resulting shot and save semeed to mentally give the game back to us.

Depsite his miss I like the look of this young German.

I think Foz saw that they were going to try to play the ball out from the back and thus played Bean in a very forward position to stop this. They did not have the intelligence or ability to adapt. Fair play!

Points, Promise & Purpose

Pre match - there's a few more Orient milling about than normal - what's this, the suns come out and brought them out to play, maybe a 15 match unbeaten stretch and a day out in the better half of London, the Orient roll into town fancying their chances, we'll see. ;)

Changes today were Neilson returning but over at left back for the ever present Woodman, Bean for the Budgie sized Byrne, but other than that as they were Tues.

The Bees thundered out of the blocks, Orient come with a plan, it's a flawed plan, play and pass from the back, so Bean pushes on with Weston to pick up early flicks on from Grabban and Alexander. 5 mins in, one of these flicks from Alexander into space, Bean runs into the gap between the two centre halves, trying to get the ball under control, he seems to be surprised to be so far up there and so are we, the crowd seem hopeful, rather than expectant but Marcus nonchently flicks a leg, it sails high and wide of a grasping Jones. 1 nil, it catches most of us out, even Harry Hill wasn't expecting to see that! Bean celebrates whilst pointing to the name on the back of his shirt to Hate Corner, Good Scenes :D

Now Forsters team relax, we pick up every loose ball for 20 mins, Weston gives Whing a tip and run lesson, Grabban is a threat and has a shot cleared off the line after Alexander chases down a loose ball, Leon heads over. This is stirring stuff, haven't played this well at home in the first half hour since Charlton at home 5 months back. 25 mins gone, Weston skins Whing, Malcolm Mclaren style "round the outside" and puts a low cross along the six yard box, Alexander waiting back post smacks a sidefooter home high into the net. 2 nil and Gaz gives the Orient time to share in this moment by running along the away end, finger held against his lip, they seemed to enjoy that, lots of circular fingered waves.

We take a breather, Orient's Dean Cox a Sam Saunders doppleganger, but even smaller, starts to impress, but we look comfortable, even Nicky looks content. 2 mins till half time Lee blocks a chance from the forward on the six yard line, he's on him quick and strong, excellent save, but Lee stays down and doesn't move, all of a sudden the crowd hush, uh-oh Wembley goes through 5 odd thousand minds, then we still have this match to finish. Simon Moore comes on and kicks out high and long and breathes out to finish the half.

2nd half momentum swing - you can feel the nervousness from the crowd for Moore, but he has played before, but Orient go more direct and at us. 10 mins in, another corner, another free header from a centre half, (weakness alert Nicky) heads down, McLeish right hand side of 6 yard box turns spins and connects a volley past Moore. 2-1 game on.

O's spend next 10 mins pumping balls in the box, "Come on Brentford" roar the crowd as it's time for us to play our part, you can sense a little hang on, but we weather it, Leon and Karleigh were solid and strong today, this derby is end to end and up for grabs. Reed who is a special talent in the middle plays a moving "give and go" with Gaz on the edge of the box and runs on to it to place a cert past Jones, who makes a fantastic one handed palm away. Time for Jeffrey and his green boots, Grabban makes way, to another good hand, two fair games from Lewis, but within 30 seconds Schlupp like a roadrunner gains 5 yards on the centre half who looks like he treading treacle and Schlupp nips past and toe punts, Jones deflects it down, Jeffrey runs past Jones, ball bounces up and he crashes it off the bar with no one at home. 3-1 noooo.... how the f........ no lets not go there, he made the chance but will it cost us. :nono:

10 mins from the end, Barrett skyscrapers above everyone to send a header towards the top corner, Moore one handed full stretch palm over, great save, Slade knows its time for a defeat today. Sammy Wood comes on for Weston and gives us some scurrying and tenacity. Good Stuff Sam, he gets the New Rd even more onside. Jeffrey has two more chances where he puts the afterburners on, but just doesn't look up or finish, but this boy is seriously quick, last 20 mins at Wembley his next outing me thinks.

3 mins added on, but no last minute dramas this game, the O's are sunk and the Bees deservedly take the points. Nicky strides towards the tunnel with purpose as his team had just done for 90 mins, there were lots of plusses and promise today.

Minuses today - Lee - it is a blow, but it happens. Charlie as well. But when somebody's chance goes, another players chance comes. Moore showed character today, he's a good keeper, he'll play at Wembley and won't let us down. Neilson proved he reads the game well, he filled a hole well today at left back, I'd have him back next year. KOC was good today, solid as KO and Leon. :sorted:

Dave was as consistent as ever under the Forster reign, Reed a really good game, if we could make one loan signing for 11/12, this guy is it. Best way of describing his style is a clipped Gerrard, go short or long, run all day and always wants to be involved and only 19 - tell me what's not to like! Beany had a good game further up the field and he looks a better middle of the park player further up. :fishing:

Grabban was good enough, we play through for him to run on to, different way, but better. Weston a happy tappy today, once he knows he has the measure of his man, it's just tip and go. Alexander was excellent - he is always up for it against old clubs, Exeter and the EastEnd Lot have both seen him profit against them, he pulled the centre half about and caused problems with his flick ons.

We proved today what most of us thought, we can play all day now against anyone, Forster is proving the players are developing and improving in style, up to 11th and entering the finishing straight motoring up. It was value for money today and watching the Bees is no chore anymore, plenty of plusses and points in this team. Post match the talk was which of these players will be the hero at Wembley, play like today and Carlisle will struggle to match us, Bring them on for the dress rehearsal on Friday...

Leyton Orient Match Reports and Reaction

really enjoyed watching the game today, as i had with Brighton and Huddersfield, which is more than i can say for most of the home games this season.
We really played some great football today, and Dave is like a new player to us now, Grabban/Jeffrey upfront alongside Gary works, (gary was poor in the second half)
because we have a holding striker and someone for over the top too, both of these combined is very dangerous. With Gaz and Mac, neither can latch onto balls over the top etc.

Great to see Woodsy get on the pitch and have a decent run-out, absolutely gutted for Lee, he deserves to be at that Wembley game.

I'd prefer to think that our Management Team had done their homework on this, positioning Alexander & Grabban on the corners of the penalty box, with Bean pushed right up the middle. Totally negated their preferred tactic of playing it out from the back, and indirectly led to our first goal...
