As said, Posh and Burnley can stump up the cash and I can imagine him getting games fairly soon. Not too sure what we can offer above and beyond those two.

With the list of other clubs interested I can't see him choosing us . . . But then I didn't think Clayton would either.

looks a great option, exactly the type of striker that would strengthen us. sadly i tend to think nipping in with a bid before he got picked up by the media, as we seem to have done, would have been the only chance of actually signing him.

The only reason I can think why he would come to us rather than bigger clubs is he would have a greater chance of regular first team football, rather than spending a lot of time on the bench. For some reason, when I read his profile, the first thought I had was that he's the kind of player Everton should sign and then loan out.

The report says we made a bid along with peterboro.
That to me shows that the management team are still looking to get a striker in but a decent one and don't want to panic and make do.
As others have said, if you look at forwards recently moving, we haven't really missed out on any realistic options.
Its Friday afternoon and I'm optimistic. Ask me again on Monday morning.

Agree we cant really compete but it shows the club is looking beyond getting any old striker. There looking for someone with real talent and ability rather than settling for second best, which shows ambition!!
Shame we cant match 100k Burnely have put down, and persuade him GP best place to come first. More likely to get games here than somewhere higher, persuade him to play for us couple seasons get used to English game, with a clause in stating bigger clubs comes in say with 750k in future we will let him go.

You can agree on a fee and contract terms and then the moment the transfer window opens the transfer can happen straight away.

DJ cost us money, actually Myles has/is costing us 'decent' money.

But maybe depending on what you call decent, Hermann Hreidarsson......

and when was the last time we actually got decent money for some one ? DJ? and that wasnt hooge amounts .You never know MB may put his gambling hat on and decide that he will get a partial return from all his investments if he splashes out for Rory . Who know's what Rory could be worth if he shoots us into the Championship .

The risks are the same for any player acquisition, however my confidence would be slightly higher with this chap given the alleged interest being shown by other clubs.

I'll take this a positive and that UR and MB ( as a gambler ) may think he's worth a punt. I will watch this thread with interest !!

Which is great, so long as you have a realistic chance of landing them, but not so good if you don't and end up with no-one

On the flip side though, if you aim lower and bring in someone else of a lesser standing, there's every chance you could end up with another stiker incapable of scoring the goals we need who simply makes up the numbers.

I would love a top class (for league one) striker, don't get me wrong, but if we are in the same situation in January I would prefer we take a punt on someone with the potential to get us, say, 5 more goals before the end of the season, than end up with no-one. At the least, they would add competition for places: with Grella seemingly not in Uwe's league team plans there is next to none at the moment

yep ,that was a wasted 4 months ,he was never going to come to us with the other offers on the table . Dont worry there's a Scottish midget living on an island that we've been following for 3 years ,hes 16 now so it will only be another couple of years before Manure come in for him .

The fact we are being linked with players like thgis is surely good news?
Whether you believe the press has made it up or not is a different matter.
I would expect if this rumor was true and we did make a bid then that is not the only lead we are following.

we used to sell a player every year to eighteen months or so - and then pay about 20 - 30% of the fee received on a replacement.

money used to trickle down the pro football pyramid from top to bottom.

all that has come to a near halt with the premiership buying players with foreign passports rather than scouting clubs like us.

i have no idea how small clubs keep going. in scotland they are on their knees.

we used to have 16-18 players, a manager and a physio/trainer plus two or three in the office and eric white as our part-time pr.

today we have more than thirty players, a dozen technical staff, plus about twenty admin, marketing and non-football staff.

and our attendances are often 40% down on the good old bad old days.

long may we survive and prosper --- but how we balance the books is totally beyond me.

They're only balanced by a certain investor. Otherwise we'd be playing in the Conference. We wouldn't have the current squad without that investment. :sorted:

Seriously? There's been a lot worse than Marcus at this club over the years. Give him some credit, Marcus is a solid league 1 player, if he was told to leave, there would be clubs in our division looking at his services. He's not the perfect footballing midfield player. He does a good job at present.
