Tough game in the land of the giants. First half excellent, second half less so but deserved the win as we were better on the ball. They're huge - little Dickov must have a Napoleon complex I reckon.

Played some really good football. They had a decent spell after half time but we stood firm at the back with Lee, Harleigh and Karleigh all strong.

Typical well drilled but unpleasant Dickov team tbh.

Nice to see a Clayton throw finally come off, Richard Lee made one brilliant save from close range too

Should have buried them first half when we played like Barca at times.

Second half more workmanlike but a good win against a decent side.

Agree with the above.
I thought there were times tonight when some of our football was absolutely brilliant – such nice passing stuff, mixed up with some "route one" (the first goal, for instance) – but we couldn't take anything for granted. Apart from that spell early in the second half I thought we were much the better team.

My brother suggested their Number 2 was the biggest player he'd ever seen. Never mind player, I thought he may've been the biggest human being I'd ever seen. If I was Clayton I'd have stayed well away in case the bloke got hungry and ate him.

Well back in my hotel Newbury 50 miles away from the ground wiithin an hour, taking advantage of my secondment down south to pop down to the real theatre of dreams and went to what is only my 4th game of the season.
It was great to be standing behind the goal on a night game, been 25 years since I last did that.

Anyway back to the game, first 20 mins our football was terrific, Beanie poached a goal fron donaldsons long through when everyone in defence stopped, Clinton ?? hit the post with a galncing heading from a corner after having a stone wall penalty turned down and Sam hitting the cross bar. Bidwell and Logan's passing was supreme.
There was only one team in it at half time and my £10 @ 9-1 on 2-0 was looking shaky.

2nd half and the world changed, for the first 20 mins Oldham dominated the game with Bees barely getting in their half, Thomson came on for Bean and McGiinn for Clinton and firmed things up a bit, then got what seemed a nothing pass to the right hand side of the box and McGinn drilled it home.
Pretty much killed the game, their man mountain gave the central defensive some handy work.

Clinton seemed to go through the back of their played and was carried off on a stretcher, thought he was on for a a definate yellow and feared a red, but gave a free kick, so must have made contact with the ball and man.

Clinton was rallying the team and the fans and his presence giving confidence to all especially clayton is obvious to all.

Final whistle goes, can do no more, still clinging on to play off dreams.
First 20 mins, would be a match for any team in the league, First 20 mins in 2nd half would be beaten by most of the league. Still holding in there, but can not afford to switch off. Beat Bury and results go our way, things get interesting, would take a point at Hartlepool though.

Serious question - other than an inability to play the killer pass and score goals, what's unpleasant about them?

I suppose it's probably the first time this season that we've won the foul count!!

Started brilliantly, glad to see one of Clay's long throws finally work. Very good first ten minutes, we played like a team who's won a few recently. After that it settled and our chances dried up, while they started to push more.

Fortunately they didn't create much but I felt they were the ones pushing for 'something', rather than us apart from the odd break.

Second half, I felt they started much better, they got in a few dangerous situations and we were playing things a bit risky.

We got the second goal though, (and what a nice little bit of skill that was from McGinn, he does have talent...) and after that it was fairly comfortable. Maybe not the best performance I've seen, but along with Exeter, we came, we did a job, and we left with a comfortable scoreline in the end.

Oldham weren't bad though and defo came here looking to get something. Fortunately for them they've probably got enough points to stay in this division for yet another year.

I'm looking forward to Bury, if Carlisle lose on Friday it could be the start of something special ;)

We played far toom deep early in the second half and allowed them to come on to us. However Simpson like when he was here looked disinterested and Kuqui is past it. Was impressed with Furmen though.

What's been encouraging, apart from the quality of the football, is the two-goal margin in all but the MKD game. Where only a few weeks ago we were wondering where the next goal was coming from, now we're expecting goals to come as if from a tap. Shaleum surging through, Sam and his free kicks, Clayton on a run, Clinton raring to get off the mark. Today it was Marcus and, of all people, the people's favourite Niall McGinn. Who next?

Now that's probably killed it stone dead for next Saturday.

It was a very hard game against a hard working side who pressed us all over the pitch. We really ground out a result tonight and for me it simply illustrated how tough the run in will be for all teams. I think a lot of points will be dropped by teams in the mix and fatigue will definitely IMO play a part. I thought everyone put in a shift and we have some momentum now. Have belief and who knows?

A very good win in tricky, wet conditions against a tough yet half decent oldham side that keeps the run going. We weathered a storm, from both the weather and Oldham second half, but came through with a little bit of luck and in the end the victory was quite comfortable.

Couldn't have started better and in the first twenty minutes I thought we were superb and played probably the best attacking football i've seen at home in a very long time. Committed bodies forward, both full backs pushing on, both strikers available and looking for the ball into feet and to run onto and midfield busy and active. Bean volleys in a Clayton long throw after just a minute to take everyone by surprise, poor defending by Oldham allowing the ball to travel all the way into the box and Bean running in unmarked to fire in. We really steam rollered them and should have added to our lead, Donaldson headed a corner seemingly into the bottom corner but their keeper made an incredible save touching the ball onto the post and then scrambled off the line. Donaldson then tunred well but shot over with his left foot and probably should have had a penalty when Morrison seemed to be tripped in the box then Saunders fired the follow up wide. Morrison held the ball up superbly and linked well with Donaldson, some neat step overs gave him half a yard and he fired a shot that the keeper saved well above his head.

All feeling very positive although Oldham came into it much more second half. Saunders should have scored just after half time but his left foot shot was straight at the keeper. As the rain began to pour down we found things more difficult. Oldham began to lump it long with the ball picking up pace off the surface water and defending became very tough. Oldham had some big lads up front and Karleigh and Harlee had to be alert and up for the fight which thankfully they were. Lee made a good save when their big striker wriggled free in the box but when Taylor, probably their best player, got injured the game seemed to change. Morrison caught him late but neither ref or his assistant gave a foul to the amazement of most of the oldham players and bench. Looked a nasty injured and Clinton to his credit went straight to their manager to apologise which was a nice touch. It seemed to set Oldham back a bit and we got a second at the crucial moment. McGinn found space on the corner of the box, touched the ball into his path and fired a low powerful shot into the net. The timing couldn't have been better and we all breathed a sigh of relief as Oldham had gone through a spell where they looked like they might equalise at any point. Logan could have added a third but shot over and McGinn posed a real threat with his pace on the right wing. Lee made a couple of regulation saves and we cleared a header off the line but saw the game out largely untroubled.

A tough night where things seemed to just go our way, the timing of the goals, a couple of referreing decisions and the odd bounce of the ball and deflection that dropped for us that didn't seem too only a few weeks ago. We are playing well but the luck is with us at the moment which we have to make the most of. Thought Harlee Dean was outstanding again, really enjoys the battle but a good footballer also. I like how he has something about him too standing up to the oldham player who tried to barge him over. If Southampton are letting him go surely we have to start negotitions now before other clubs start sniffing around, he seems happy here and would be a great signing for next season. Bidwell was excellent again as was Douglas. Thompson also put in a lovely cameo on the right when he came on and showed what strenght in depth we have, although a Watford mate tells me he has a contract with them til 2014 and we have no chance of signing him permanently this summer! Clinton was excellent with his hold and link up, Clayton seems to have improved having trained with him a for a little while now and is seemingly reaping the rewards.

Have we left it too late? Probably. But all we can do is keep winning and keep the run going as we all know pressure does funny things to people and Carlisle will be feeling it from now til the end of the season. Five wins from six may just do it, maybe even four wins and two draws, who knows what could happen. Whatever happens, we are showing PROGRESS and that is all we can ask. If we don't go up this season we can all see what Rosler is trying to do and we are slowly getting there, some of the football tonight was a joy to watch. I for one will certianly enjoy our last six games, who knows, come May we just might have a few more to look forward to.

We where excellent first half and did what we had to do in the second. Saunders was brilliant in the first half.

They where toothless but had some decent players (the number 12, the lad who go carried off and the big unit that came on in the second half (36?).

Well - to channel Sven, "first half good, second half not so good". After their player was stretchered off they ran the show for 10 minutes, but truth be told, after the goal it was pretty comfortable, and with the number of chances we created, especially first half, we could have buried them.

Back 4 very solid (apart from a few uncharacteristic errors by Bidwell, who otherwise had a good game), some lovely football in the first half, and great to see Clayton playing with confidence. Clinton's clearly still a good player, but we'll only get the most out of him if we keep passing it - he's not going to hunt for scraps and he clearly needs to get a bit more fitness. Some lovely touches from him though, and I liked his attitude as well.

Thought playing Logan on the left was a bit strange, but he tried hard, and had a good chance towards the end. Good cameo from McGinn - he looked lightning over 5 yards and if he could play like that more consistently he'd be a player.

only 19 posts on a another good win,....shame.

first half i thought we were well on top,a joy to watch creating chances,good quick short footie,not panicking too much just kept it moving,at times opening them right up.Missed Beans goal,was walking in.Second half they had a go,though we looked a bit edgy with some poor touches and passes going forward,we defended well,they were putting in dangerous crosses all game with no-one on the end of them.But the longer the half went on our confidence grew and we played or atleast tried playing like we did in the first half.Good finish by McGinn,came just at the right time for us to calm down a bit,get ourselves together and knock a bit out of them.McGinn played quite well when he came on but is still pathetic with his bottling,Saunders puts in more !Hes going to have to do something spectacular to convince me hes worthy of anything.Sadly another bad attendance and atmosphere despite our best run of the season and renewed chances of play-offs

Heres to 4 points over Easter Weekend with Carlisle losing at Wycombe and Stevenage dropping more points :sorted:

Praise to Rosler for changing things during the game, Logan gave bidwell some much needed protection and then McGinn to inject some pace. Nice to see that we have the ability to change things during a game

I thought that Oldham, for the first half, were absolutely woeful. Their no 6 has to be one of the worst defenders I have ever seen. Their danger man was their no 7, who couldn't half cross the ball. Other than that, it was an easy first half, where we scored, hit the post and then hit the crossbar. The second half couldn't have come at a worse time for us, such was our dominance, and we started poorly as Oldham had galvanised. Regardless, the timing of our goal was superb, and totally knocked the stuffing out of Oldham and the game was fairly non-eventful, save for a good drive from Logan towards the end, although he really should have scored.

The first 30 minutes of the game was utterly superb though. I had a Tottenham fan with me, and he was purring over our first half performance, and could hardly believe the style of football that we were playing.

For me, Sam Saunders was incredibly lively, and his contribution in the first half was magnificent. I thought that Douglas and Dave did an excellent job in midfield too, whilst Donaldson's first half was one of his better performances, in terms of actual quality. For me, though, one player who clearly made a difference, was Clinton Morrison. His general talking, extra bit of quality, and all-round game, demonstrates why he has played a far higher level, and for me, I'd be desperate to secure his signature, if he was available to us.

A hugely enjoyable performance, against a pretty poor team. I really don't care for some of the comments I read on the GPG sometimes, but every time I have seen us play this season, we have "tried" to play good quality football and this is a huge chasm away from previous seasons. I know that there have been some pretty appalling performances this season, and no doubt there will always be those who are never satisfied, but I'd quite happily state that Uwe has done a good job this season, adapted the team, gotten them playing some nifty football for much of the season, and made changes when needed. All that in less than a season! And for some we're not making progress?

One further question actually, it seemed set that the game would kick off in the same way as normal, with us firing at Ealing Road in the second half, but that changed last second. Does anyone know why?

Their goalkeeper had to jog back across the pitch as evidence that it was a last second decision.

give it a rest with the usual dig cos we win,,,,,,its getting bloody tedious Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz its only 19 posts cos its late and most went to the game,,,,,,lighten up for fecks sake eh ;)

decent game and we look like a team which is hard to beat now,,,,,,,who knows where this season may finish up but for the moment its getting enjoyable.....the next 11 days might be interesting

I imagine we lost the toss and Oldham asked to swap ends as we always play better attacking Ealing Road in the second half. Backfired a bit because it meant that we kicked off and scored a minute later. lol

So when there is no negativity, why do you bring up the subject of negativity? It might lead to negative posts!

The ref tosses a coin, whichever captain calls correctly gets to decide which half they want to attack first or if they want to take kick off first or second half. That is how I understand it. If the away team wins the toss, quite often they will opt to switch round to try and gain a psychological advantage, scoring after a minute tonight though proves it doesn't always work :D

Less than a minute in and Donaldson sets up for a throw something which we sopped recently and never worked, wasn't happy but straight into he gap and Bean gets a flick on and goal, amazing start really!
We mixed it up tonight against a very good organised physical Oldham side who are an average team in our division so we couldn't get complaicent.
Some amazing pass and move possession in the first half and switching play really well.
Start of the second half we probably sat back too deep and allowed Oldham more possession of the ball. Similar to the Rochdale game, 1-0 is never enoygh even 2-0 at times but we had UR on the sidelines going through the motions like he was out thee kicking the ball. Before we might got carried away and not seen out the game professionally but recently UR has seemed to installed a good mentality in the players to fight till the end and keep your heads.
McGinn got ready in the dugout and wasn't happy to see him but when he came on, looked like upfront he got in behind the Oldham defence a few times with some amazing pace and ball control. Ball fell to him in the six yard box where he's had about 5 chances of late to score sitters and missed he kept his cool and smashed home to help the situation massively. I even think I saw him go infor a tackle and not only that but he won he tackle lol looked more like the player we saw early in the season. We continued to see out the game very well, great defence displays and Lee was good and made one amazing save.
All round great team effort and performance.
Clayton played well upfront and so did Morrison who has great experience to help the team, good awareness and hold up play and is good passing the ball.

Missed the first goal, was passing through the turnstile when the cheer went up! Excellent play in the first 20 mins, reminded me partly of the Colchester game way back in September. Clayton hits a post with a header and Saunders clips the top of the bar with a free-kick, was it going to be deja vu?

Second half, the rain poured down and that certainly helped Oldham who let's not lie here are a big physical unit. Game becomes scrappy and it took a moment of class from the sub McGinn to settle our nerves. Clinton's tackle on Taylor was a bit naughty but I can only remember too many times this season where we've been bullied.

Great win which keeps the momentum going.

Couldn't go tonight as i was working, but i was there for Rochdale and MK Dons as of late, and we were excellent at MK Dons. Glad to see us win a 'routine' game, we haven't had that feel about us all season. Cannot wait for Bury on Saturday, such a huge game. Totally convinced that Wycombe will at least draw with Carlisle as they are scoring goals at the moment.

Wish that anyone but McGinn could have scored as i have grown to hate the guy for his 'performances' in our shirt, i expected changes in formation tonight and i'm very happy for Uwe that it's worked again!
If we win against Bury, which we should, the chase is definitely on.

Look we are on a good run and Personnally I don't expect to make the playoffs but am enjoying our purple patch and hopeful benefit us going forward into next season.

You will probably find less negative comments even if we had off lost as most D and G members accepted in there minds the season was over long ago and are treating this run as a positive sign. So why they don't need to be overly critical.

Anyway I have booked trips away during the playoffs so those that have remained positive may have the last laugh. I hope so:)

An entertaining game, where we were much better in the first half than the second. I think we made a tactical change at half-time (moving Marcus wide left, and later putting Logan there) to try to stop Oldham getting crosses in from the right. To some extent it worked in that respect, but it made us weaker elsewhere. Morrison's lack of fitness also meant he contributed nothing in the second half before being subbed, after a good first half. We deserved the win, and showed some very noce touches at times

A good win, we put the performance in at the weekend and carried it on for 20 minutes but then had to dig in for the win. 2-0 flattered us and the groans (silent one by me!) that met McGinn were silenced by his good and vital finish. It was all about winning tonight and thankfully they showed some balls. Karleigh and Dean had to put up with some filth from the Oldham lads but they are getting stronger by the game IMO.

Completely agree with what you say about his performance and attitude - great to see a loan player gee-ing up the team and looking like he cares. Might be good for us for one year but he's getting on a bit.

Also its a home game and a lot more people attend them, course there will more negative post when we lose away. But it was a nice enjoyable evening watching the Bees play well and win, roll on Saturday. Come on Wycombe....

fair play to the miserable old sod near me on the left of the ealing as one faces the pitch. every mistake was an example of how sh*t brentford were, we only want to get in the playoffs for the money, not that we are good enough to be in them, and if we go up we'll be relegated in 5 mins, but sheff weds will destroy us over 2 legs anyway, we havent had a team for 3 years ( :confused: ). he stuck to his guns though and didnt celebrate our second goal or stay to clap the victors off rofl maybe it got a bit cold in his snazzy shorts and coat combo rofl

i have no idea why you would waste £20+ on watching something you clearly dont like, maybe its because for me money is tight and brentford is one of my few luxeries but if i ever get to that sort of stage where i cant even celebrate brentford winning without moaning about every little thing i'll just give up!

Good performance on the whole from the bees. i think clinton is a valuable asset for this season but i wouldnt sign him for next year personally. he is making a big difference it seems though :sorted:

Actually for half an hour last night McGinn was the player we were all hoping he would be. Direct and dangerous, apart from the goal he got to the byline on several occassions and his delivery was excellent. I thought it was his best performance since he decided to go missing back in September/October.

Missed 1st half, as I had to dash home in an emergency
2nd half was Ok. we were under pressure but survived and then got the 2nd goal.

Karleigh and Dean looked good.
The Increasing Aerial Threat put Thompson and Bidwell under pressure but they withstood it...
Donaldson, Douglas and Saunders showed some neat flicks and touches, when perhaps Rosler may have preferred the ball to be held up a little longer.

Disappointed not to see former Fame Academy winner Alex Parks make an appearance for Oldham :sad:

Thought it was a very good performance and very difficult to pick a mom as several players made telling contributions. Could have been out of sight by half time and Oldham had 15-20 minutes in the second half where Lee made an excellent save. But just as it looked a bit tricky credit to Uwe who bought on Thompson and McGinn (who both did excellent) and changed things around, and it was never in doubt. A great team performance where we played some good stuff, so unbelievable from the team I saw just a couple of weeks ago against Orient. Maybe too much of a coincidence but it has turned around since Morrison arrived, just seems like they are playing for each other where it was not happening just 2-3 weeks ago.

If the away team wins the toss, quite often they will opt to switch round to try and gain a psychological advantage, scoring after a minute tonight though proves it doesn't always work :D

The actual Laws of the game state that the team that loses the toss kicks off the first half, no choice, the team that wins the toss then chooses ends.

I know who you mean, he's always there and often away I think. He often used to spouse his hatred on all things Bees United and I have heard him say Fulham were a model club we should follow, but there you go it takes all sorts. He seems loyal.....
