Does anyone know when the season 2020/21 will begin? Planning a week away in late July / early Aug and want to minimise the possibility of missing Bees.

First Sat in August is usually the first round of games (with Wayne Rooney's Derby playing on the Friday night) but this year that means the season opener would be Friday 31st July....seems early?

@Judio1999, any ideas?

Thanks in advance!
I can tell you that the Community Shield is being played on Sunday 2nd August 2020.
Which means that the EFL could possibly k.o that weekend as the Premier league will kick off on the 7/8/9th of August.

When will the seasons be re-jigged to accommodate the 2022 WC?

Very good question Paul of which I think that there are absolutely no answers too. We have to stop at the end of October I reckon and resume in January with the loss of 9 weeks minimum.
Probably a good idea to scrap League Cup that season and replays for FA Cup ties from 3rd round onwards.
A mess created by FIFA and yet those responsible have walked or been pushed out.
2022/23 will be an absolute headache for the administration

Be a good idea to scrap the League Cup full stop.

I would expect it to be Sat Aug 8th

But Dec 24th will fall on a Saturday

So either they play 9 Midweeks

Or they have a Sat Aug 1st start

They have pencilled in a July start in 2022 so starting Aug 1st won't be seen as too early

The provisional dates for the Championship will include a break starting Monday November 14th and ending when the Group Stage of the 2022 World Cup has been completed

The WC 2022 will be played from November 21st until December 18th

PL will stop from Nov 14 to Dec 26th
Championship will stop from Nov 14th to end of Group Stage

L1 and L2 will play as normal throughout

60% of the revenue from the EFL TV is for the league cup, take that out and the value drops substantially.

I assume that if you are a Championship club with 3 players on International duty outside of the “shut down dates” then your games will still be postponed? Otherwise it will make a mockery of the competition that season.

This is all a fiasco that should have been reviewed when the truth was exposed.

Holiday plans for next August need to be chosen carefully! .. I don’t think anyone will want to miss our first League/Prem game at LR
That's why I have planned my holiday for a month earlier this year.

Don't want to not only miss the first league game, but the first game, one of which I understand could be the Middlesex Senior Cup Final.

Saturday 1 August in the Championship.

Saturday 8 August in the Premier League.

But a good possibility our fixture could be at any point on the Friday to Monday over those weekends as I imagine the opening game at the new stadium will be attractive to the TV companies.

Make the EFL cup for EFL teams only but (and maybe not possible) keep the qualifying place for the Europa Cup thereby giving EFL teams, and Championship teams specifically, a possibility of silverware and a route into Europe....and get rid of the EFL Trophy.

Although I know it would probably be resisted - and may not even be possible to hand a European place to a team in the second tier not contested by the PL. However it would be good to see how well a Championship team would do against runners up in some of the smaller European nations.

Thursday night Europa League - they'd end up treating it like they do the other cups, second string XI saving first team for the league....

In the shed.
Followed by Sky changing them all. Why not just let Sky do the fixture lists ?

excellent not long to wait
Well, only four weeks before the next season begins so not much more time really.

Because of no fans on stadiums I wonder if there are any restrictions how Sky can change the times and dates for broadcasting purposes?

Because they don’t know at the start of the season who will be top so they won’t know what the best matches will be!

I reckon we will be on quite a few times during the coming season .. Sky Sports / Brentford

I bet Matthew Benham doesn’t mind our fixtures being changed for live broadcast revenue?

With the drive in, plug-and-play TV facilities at the new stadium, I expect there to be a lot of games broadcast.

If they're on Sky they won't be part of our expected 'free' ifollow access though.
If it’s still empty stadia and paid for season ticket then surely Ifollow will be given access as previously?

A deal needs to be done with Sky, they are waving their exclusivity rights. Whilst it might have worked for a few months during early lockdown but it can't go on forever.

They may start asking for money back on their contract if it is prolonged.

The attendances at matches is surely a drop in the ocean of Sky viewers?

Seems crazy to me that next season is basically being treated as "normal" but just condensed into 7.5 months instead of the usual 8.5. Why not just bin off the Carabao Cup and maybe the FA Cup as well for one season. We're gonna need a bigger squad!

I suspect Brentford will unilaterally bin off those cups. As usual.

I see League 1 & 2 are gearing up for the new season. Given that finances prevented these leagues from restarting in June, where is the money now coming from for them to afford to start playing again without fans?

The first solidarity payment from the EFL via the EPL TV rights.
