Still makes me a little bit sad seeing how his career has gone post injury. Thought he might get another L1 club although perhaps he and his family may have set up home in and around Suffolk. Good luck to him.

Seems he had a few offers from L1 sides but decided to stay “local” - Colchester should do well this season.

Some more detail in this article.. seems he had some family issues.. wish him and his daughter well with everything. Interesting to note that Jon D'Souza .. former Bees Academy Youth Manager is at Colchester.

Imagine a parallel dimension where *that* tackle didn't happen, he had a successful career in the Prem dazzling all and sundry with his abundant skills plus many dozens more ROI caps, and decides to finish it with a free transfer back to the newly promoted Bees. Scenes as he penetrates the Arse with a last minute free kick winner to send us top on the first day. Nope, instead, League 2 beckons. Good luck Judgey :)

In that parallel universe he’d have left us that summer when we missed out on the top 6. We actually did as well without him end of that season. It’s much more a sad thing for him and his career than a case of what might have been for us.

Indeed. Then returned on a freebie as the contract on his original PL team of choice expired contemporaneously with our promotion success. Scenes :owusu:

Do I have to think about him penetrating the arse?
Enduring image isn’t it?
Marvellous.

IMHO, he‘s never really recovered from the injury.

At age 32, he’ll be starting next season in League 2. Toums, at age 34 will start next season in League 1.

For me, it was the first time it really hit how short a footballers career is and why we can never really blame them for jumping ship at will and wanting to make as much money as possible.

Nonetheless, I still wish him the best and hope he’ll squeeze a few more years as a pro. There was a wonderful period where he was untouchable and was a major factor in our promotion in 2014 and consolidation in the Championship.

I note that Luke Hyam had to retire before he reached age 30 having failed to recover from a serious back injury and also having his own mental health struggles.
