In case some people are unaware, there's the annual Army vs Navy egg chasing game at Twickers today. It's a sell out and going to be rammed from early morning around the area. So if your driving via this area to GP today you might want to make a detour.

Same goes if you want a drink in Twickenham tonight. Most of the pubs are all shut at 8pm on police advice.

I think we should give the SoTG residents a tour of Twickenham this evening. If they have concerns about football, wait till they see what our armed forces will do to the town!

Don't worry, they are rugby fans so will probably be mincing their way to the ground via public transport.

Also a reduced frequency of trains from Clapham J to Brentford today - be aware.

In case it’s useful to somebody, here’s times for some of the 20-minute trains from CJ:
11:47
12:02
12:17
12:47
13:17
13:47
14:17
14:32 (arrives Brentford 8 mins before kickoff, so bring running shoes.)

There are slower trains between these, taking 43 mins.

Very unpleasant place is Twickenham on Army/Navy days with p*ssed up squaddies and tars around. Mind you the military police have a heavy presence and you wouldn't want to mix it with them, they make the Colchester Riot squad look like nursery nurses.

Did not realise this was on and got caught in it. A strange mixture of the landed gentry, blokes who looked like right punch up merchants and UKIP on tour.

Didn't read this in time and got stuck in traffic coming in from M3, getting to my seat just as they kicked off.

Pretty much everyone I saw en route to Twickenham was falling over drunk before their game had even started, and it was a bit like the aftermath of a battle as I drove back out at 8ish.

If these are our 'heroes' then god help us. It's double standards, if football fans carried on like that they'd get arrested.

And it would be plastered all over the TV and newspapers.

On the way to brentford via clapham junction I had never seen anything like it!
The platform was COVERED in beer cans and loads of empty beer boxes! The single south west train platform employee with his broom was under pressure!
No trouble. But God knows what it must be like after!

I lived in Twickenham for a couple of years before moving out to Essex, every rugby game is quite literally a mass drinking session where everyone gets drunk as a skunk, it's not just a few of them, it's the whole lot. T

The Barmy Arms on the river is rammed from about 10.00 in the morning

It's all very middle class and landed gentry, it's the them and not us....

Coming in on the train from Colchester yesterday the train was a wierd mixture of West Ham, some Millwall, and a lot of Para's / officiers going to the rugby, I was the only Bee until Chelmsford when a young student got on,, saw my scarf and told me she was a Bee, she was really pleased told me she thought she was the only one over here....bless

Over the years I've seen some of the wildest tears up ever at these Army vs Navy games. There's probably at least treble the amount of police on duty for these games as opposed to the normal internationals, and there supplemented by lots of very large military policemen.

However if you've been stuck in some hell hole in Helmund province for the last 6 months, in my book your allowed to let off some steam once a year.......

Wished that I hadn't missed this thread yesterday. Got stuck on the A316 for about an hour yesterday and missed the first 10 minutes of the game as a result! What's more, my fuel gauge was already flashing at the start of the queue and I probably only just made it to a garage on time!

Used to work in Twickenham and for me the worst game was the Uni game between Oxford and Cambridge.

A nightmare.

Watching grown men bum each other in alleys is never a nice sight.

Went once, well I think I did, cannot really remember anything about it, was probably out of it before I even got in the stadium. It is a long day.
