Well done Saman, protected the ball well, gave us another option up front, worked hard. We play with our heads high and chests out, no sense of not belonging here in the PL. Heard a couple of commentators call this the Dean Smith Derby, thought that was disrespectful, Frank is the better manager based on today’s performance.

When Janelt nicked the ball off Martinez, I still don’t understand that rule, as Martinez had thrown the ball in front of himself to kick it.

So how can he have control of the ball, if he’s not holding it?

Back in the day, that would have been a perfect opportunistic goal!

George Best did that to Gordan Banks in the 60's and scored but it was ruled out I assume for similar reasons.

Just been looking at the Villa fans forum site, they think we are dirty B£#@ards and cheating c+=ts, and at least 2 should have been sent off. Surely they have been watching the game with S*(t in their eyes. Just sour grapes, their supporters are horrible b#£&*rds.

We were really good. Villa didn't create a chance until the last minute with a difficult Watkins header. We were solid and played the best football we've seen so far this season from us. I'd like to see us create a bit more, but i'm getting greedy and I think at home to Brighton may be the chance to create a bit more. Special mentions to Raya, Ajer (what a signing) and Toney for getting his first goal, but everyone worked really hard.

But the real man of the match was Saman Ghoddos. The guys got called all sorts recently, including overweight (which he isn't anymore), disappointing, not good enough, waste of money etc... Granted, this has probably been his best performance for us by some distance, but we now know he can do it. Well done that man, we all love to see it.

What a start to the season, wish the international break would f**k off, no one actually wants it.

Brentford are disgusting team, dirty b******s.

Taken from the villa forum...if u pop over there enjoy I have a feeling they don’t like our sh*t housery today....bless them being a massive **** sorry mean club
We needed to make our game more physical going back a couple of years ago, as we were being bullied too much. We have addressed that in training, fitness and by the players that we sign. Perfect example today.

However - I would like someone to have a quiet word with Sergi. He is gaining a reputation for rolling around Bafta style and it's really not needed. A good bit of sh*thousery is fine to wind up the oppo, but I found it a bit embarrassing.

Had the benefit of replays and there were many challenges in the 2nd half which could have gone more Villa's way so I don't think the ref was a homer. First part of the 2st half we were great except for both defenders gong with the eyes and body language of buendia. Some lovely passages of play and were strong. Bit more bit in the final third needed.

I thought the first substitution was a strange one, Wissa for Ghoddos, and we lost shape for a bit after that. It was better once Jensen came on and things went back to as they were, but I didn’t really get that one.

Three games in the top flight and it feels like we indeed belong here. I am absolutely amazed at how organized and disciplined our midfield is. The ball moves exactly where situtation dictates, everyone's playing with confidence, almost relishing under pressure. Such a joy to my eyes.

Huge props to Frank for implementing the system that is working perfectly fine against such formidable opponents as Villa. Also happy for Ghoddos today. He turned sceptics into believers with his performance.

No, didn't work at all and Wissa didn't really offer much. I guess perhaps Jensen and Baptiste not really close enough to full fitness to get more than a few minutes?

Another big performance today!

A lot more fluid than the last two performances, boys looked like they were enjoying it.
Great game from Saman, disappointed he got taken off, and the game changed a little from there, but we still looked dangerous.
Ajer, what a player! Top, top signing.
Pleased Toney got his first secured, now that's out the way, onto many more! Had him to score first and us to win 2-1 so feeling extra aggrieved at the disallowed goal and lack of penalty, but would be disappointed if either were given against us (although not surprised..)

Great backing from the boys as usual!

That's part of his game that I don't like.

One of the posters on the Villa Forum mentioned it too.

So proud of this team. I know we always seemed to manage a draw at Villa Park in the Championship but this was a Brentford team in the Premier League looking entirely at home at that level and more than matching a top 10 side in front of a crowd of 42,000. Our little club has come such a long way in such a short space of time. It all still feels so surreal.

That was a magnificent performance and one which perhaps marks another step foward in our evolution as a Premier League team. In addition to the press, intensity and organisation we were able to add some of our trademark passing game. Unbeaten after three games, Toney off the mark, Jensen and Baptiste back and Ghoddos revitalised. Apart from the injury to MBS I don't think we could possibly have asked for a better start.

And more importantly piss off the Villa fans.

Job done.

Very happy with a point. Glad Smith left it late bringing Ollie on. Another 10 minutes and I reckon he might have done us. :D

Great performance overall, we dominated the second half until Watkins appeared. Very pleased for Ghoddas, stepped up when we needed him. He has set the bar, he now needs to consistently perform at this level, he was great! Pleased also that Jensen and Baptiste appeared. We are more than holding our own. Great support again, we were loud and proud.

Once again we more than matched an established, decent Premier League side and left thinking …… if only Rico had hit the target.

The defence were absolutely superb once again and what I like is so far Ajer, Pontus and Ethan are happy to hoof it and clear their lines if they need to.

Norgaard and Vitaly were everywhere and my only criticism is they weren’t as good with their distribution as they might have been but Ghoddos more than made up for that and was pulling the strings and picking passes short and long. He also got a foot in when he needed it and looked every inch a Premier league footballer today.

Sergi has been at the top of his game in all 3 matches so far and Bryan looks so sharp at the moment and a yard quicker than any opponents he’s faced so far.

Ivan was the quietest he’s been but still found the net with his one clear chance.

I think we played 12 men first half with an absolutely disgraceful refereeing display and the camp Lino in front of us about 5 yards behind play all of the first 45 minutes.

The ref made so many howlers it was embarrassing and it seemed that Ashley Young stood on the ball and fell over yet somehow got the free kick. To be fair I think he probably watched it back at half time and after that he gave us most decisions apart from the bottle job when Alghazi fouled Sergi again.
Anyway, second half we were solid if a little bit short of a threat in their box and without Ghoddos and Bryan lacked the inventiveness and pace both gave us.
1-1 and certainly worth a point, if we were to win vs a very decent Brighton side 8 from 4 games would be a really special start.

The fans were excellent and Ghoddos MOTM
just ahead of Ethan

Over the last 5 to 8 years traditionally we have been slow starters. In my mind all due to the players that have left the club to balance the books as best as possible. With no one ( I hope, 3 days to go ) leaving at the start of this year, just with the good additions coming in, we are starting very bright. The only way is up

Ghoddos is like having a new signing!
Really disappointed about losing MBS so somewhat of a compensation that can see what Ghoddos can really add to the team.

Think Wissa will also provide Thomas with an interesting conundrum up front

Its still in the motion of kicking the ball. Its pretty difficult to kick the ball without it leaving your hands for a split second!

They have some of the most dellusioned fans in the entire league. Proper t****rs some of them. A few seasons ago when they came to GP to play us over the Chritmas period I remember a post which said "they don't even deserve to be on same park as us". We then went on to beat them 3-0 (from memory) in one of our easier wins of the season. GPG was good that night.

Good game. Absolutely roasting hot. Samman turned a corner today. Toney, Ajer, Canos and Pinnock were quality. Good performance all round.

To be fair he didn't do much on Tuesday and a lot of fans near us in North stand were critical of his contribution and weight. Then again first half against FGR few players covered themselves in glory.... It might be he's more suited to the EPL's level.

I doubted his inclusion but clearly he proved me wrong. It is all about opinions though.

Thoughts and prayers with the Ghoddos haters at this difficult time.

Agree with you!🥲

Ghoddos has had a lot of flak on here, just like Marcondes did. He really showed his work rate and skill today all over the pitch.
And just like Marcondes, whose contribution in the last 2 Championship games got us into the PL, Ghoddos will undoubtedly prove his ongoing value y=too the squad.

I think he was subbed because he had probably run himself into the ground with his across the pitch effort.

My MOM!!!

And I apologised for it twice after the game but if you want to keep going on about it fill you boots, never forgive, says more about you really.

He was excellent today, fair play to him.
Trouble is mate, you've got (plenty of) previous for doing it on other occasions......and, to be fair to you, you generally come back on, and admit your mistake(s).
Maybe it's time to learn the lesson.....??.....

Sorry, what does, 'both defenders gong with the eyes and body language of buendia' actually mean please?.. Tbf I have had a few drinks so have read it over a few times, but no I am lost in the post 😃🤣

Play off final, the Arsenal game and now today. I think I'd forgotten how bad a group of up for it Brentford supporters smelt after a day of getting stuck into the opposition!

@nocoat your solution is not the answer though :nono:

Here is your Saturday evening Fact Check courtesy of Untouchable (the unbeaten run continues edition):

  1. Draw 1-1 away at Aston Villa ✅
  2. First away goal in the top flight since May 1947 ✅
  3. 3 games unbeaten in the Premier League ✅
  4. Unbeaten in the league since 3rd March 2021 (15 games) ✅
  5. Another competitive performance against an established PL team ✅
  6. Aston Villa are another team with millions of poinow worth of talent (Ings £25m Buendia £38m, Cash £16m, Watkins £28m, Konsa £12m, Martinez £20m) who were unable to get the better of us ✅
  7. Ivan bagging his first PL goal ✅
  8. Mbeumo, Rico, Canos and Pinnock all also getting shots away, again showing our style of play will work in the PL ✅
  9. Raya excellent again, making important saves and claiming everything in the air ✅
  10. Ghoddos taking more unnecessary stick and responding with a MoM performance. Take that haters ✅
  11. Baptiste back from injury and making his PL debut ✅
  12. We are 5 points clear of Arsenal, Norwich, Burnley and Wolves and 4 points clear of Leeds and Newcastle with a significantly better GD than all of them. ✅
  13. We have 5 points after match week 3. Last season, it took WBA and Fulham until match week 10 to reach 5 points and Sheffield United took until match week 18. Early signs are good for the Bees ✅
  14. Home to Brighton after the international break. They saw what happened to Arsenal and nobody will want to play us at BCS. They’re getting smashed ✅
