No longer my beloved NAM
I just listened to it on Five live and ALLEGEDLY it was done by an independent panel and anonymous. Believe that and you will believe Edmundo emigrated voluntarily.

Hope his leg falls off (Djokovic rather than Edmundo).

Disgraceful decision, he obviously hasn't had the jabs otherwise he wouldn't need the exemption. In which case everybody should get it.

Anyone with half a brain cell knows he isn't jabbed but because he is 9 time champion he gets a free pass into the tournament - it is wrong but hardly a major surprise

Top players get special privilege.

Would be less shocked if they didn't get it.

Without top seeds the tournament doesn't make money in ticket sales and, perhaps, TV revenue. There's the answer.

Expect the loudest boo-ing ever received by a tennis player from the most locked down city in the world.
How will they boo if they are locked down? (and there's a couple of cities in China locked down more than Melbourne that I would hazard a guess at)

The lockdown ended some time ago.

Most = most days. Not strictest, although Melbourne's was pretty strict.

You’re right the final lockdown finished over a month ago. The numerous lockdowns varied in their severity - at one point we could only leave our house for 4 very specific reasons, & couldn’t travel more than 5kms.

There are very few restrictions now - thanks to the effectiveness of the vaccines. I’m looking forward to attending the tennis this year. I always go on the first Tuesday (best chance of seeing the Brits before they get knocked out). If I see Novak I will give him a warm Hate Corner welcome.

Seems this unvaccinated knobber may have some issues obtaining a visa into prison island

I am afraid not

Melbourne has a large Serbian population who will make themselves heard in the Rod Laver Arena

As I said earlier, it is an appalling example to set to all his fans

And they will all cheer him regardless...

So listening to the Aussie Open director on TV

Basically

If you have no vaccinations at all

Then go out and get infected with covid in the last 6 months

Then say to them
Sorry I couldn't get a vaccine as I had the virus

They will give you a medical exemption !!!

Quote from the BBC website:

Amid the row, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Djokovic would be required to present evidence upon arrival that he has a genuine medical exemption from vaccination, or he would be "on the next plane home".
"If that evidence is insufficient, then he won't be treated any different to anyone else and he'll be on the next plane home," the prime minister told reporters. "There should be no special rules for Novak Djokovic at all. None whatsoever."

Just slightly different to Macron, in France, saying at the weekend that he wants to "emmerder"* the unvaccinated.

* even those with sniggering schoolboy French will be able to work out what that means.

He has millions of fans? I don't know anyone, including massive tennis fans, who doesn't think he's a total knob. In some ways I'm glad he's going, it'll turn a lot of neutrals into actual haters. Let's see how that whole heart-pushing thing works out.

Novak Djokovic denied entry to Australia after visa mix-up

The decision to grant the tennis player a medical exemption from Covid-19 vaccination has been met with fury

Can he still reapply with the correct paperwork? Would be hilarious if he was denied entry full stop 😆

My understanding (and this may well be wrong) is that Australian immigration don't like keeping people 'in process' very long. This will all get resolved very quickly, one way or another.

BBC are reporting his visa has been canceled and he will be deported tomorrow. Nice to see we taught the Aussies something 😉
Hang on. I thought his father gave them 30 minutes to release him before he was going to start a riot?

"I have no idea what is going on," Djokovic's father, Srdjan, told Serbian media. "They have been holding my son captive for five hours.
"If they don't let him go in half an hour, we will gather on the street.
"This is a fight for everyone."

I hope they are keeping him in handcuffs. Or perhaps in a cell.

Visa cancelled. From afar looks like they gave him a visa, there was a public outcry (quite rightly so) then politicians/ PM intervened and found a loophole to cancel his visa.

I’d say you’ve got this spot on.

Wouldn’t surprise me if this ends up in the courts.

That is a very good summary.

What isn’t clear is who the others who were given exemptions are and why they apparently have got past the border controls. I suspect he will argue that he’s been singled out for PR purposes and that’s not legal. It wouldn’t be the first time Morrison has made off-the-cuff remarks that come back to bite him on the arse. Google Christine Holgate, if you’re interested.

Even more so as I read that three players have been given the same visa as Novax with the same exemption and have been allowed in.

It mentions that on the video I uploaded above, except that the details are non-specific and those others (I don't believe that 3 is certain) may have genuine reasons as set-out in the video.

We were told that no more than "a handful" of exemptions were granted. How many is a handful? Five? It does appear that Novax Djokovic has been singled out, and I'm sure this arbitrariness will be referred to by his lawyers to the judge. Whether it's enough to allow his appeal is more doubtful.
