I think it's likely. Wimbledon may fancy making a bid for Jaako and if they did, would we resist? If they both go then we've only got Maghoma, Bidstrup and Trevitt in midfield and I suspect Mads will spend the majority of his time with the first team. Need to bring in a few players!

If before the next Deadline we manage to recruit a full 25 man squad it may be that some of the fringe players may be augmented into the B Team on a match to match basis in order to give them game time.

Seems quite likely, especially with there being less games in the prem.

Regardless though we certainly need an influx of players into the B team squad. They’ll need to be at an even higher level than before too if they’re going to stand any chance of breaking into a PL first team. Very difficult for Lee Dykes and co. Will be interesting to see who comes in.

As these young B team players do not count towards the 25 man squad I am wondering if the next influx will be in the more expensive bracket like Bidstrop or more accurately described as in betweeners. As you say it will be interesting to see who comes in.

Bidstrup was an odd one as I think he cost a fair amount and it seemed pretty obvious from the off he was destined for the first team. He went straight into first team training after only a couple of sessions with the B team. Think we'll do well to find more like him!

Yes I think you are spot on, even when you remove all the dross that is written about new signings it is clear that MB c cost us real money. What I always found strange was that he was signed as a B Team player, and yet after one week of pre season he went with the first team to St Georges Park where he got injured. The 5/6 B team games he had were more rehabilitation games after injury rather that B team development games. On the second point whilst we my struggle to find another like him, they are out there but will cost. It is those kind of players who I wonder if we will look to sign, indeed I can see that we may see more of a kind of two level B Team.

Totally agree, it does not seem that Bidstrup was bought as a B-player. He trained with the first team in preseason, and after his long injury, he only played 30 min B match without impressing, before he got a place on the bench and trained regularly with the first team the rest of the season. I wonder if his past in FC Copenhagen with Riemer is one of the reasons, as the same happened with the other former FC Copenhagen youth talents Racic and Roerslev. Bidstrup should have cost RB Leipzig more than £ 2m and Brentford should paid £ 900Th. which is probably also more than other players in the B squad
But Bidstrup is a huge talent and has fully deserved his new place in the first team squad.

Gustav extends his contract for a year which means that his stated contract end of 2022 on here is wrong!! Must have been 2021 with one year option

No. Check the original link on his thread. The Club obviously got it wrong, not the GPG.

Very, very seldomly incorrect!
The Official site said on 31st January 2019 "That the 17 year old had completed a medical, and signed a three year deal, which includes a one year option". Not very well written I suppose as it could be read in two different ways although I would have assumed three years plus a years option.

Main thing is he's staying which is great news! He's got real quality and hopefully can stay injury free this coming season and show what he's about.

So, we're through all the extensions and players released and currently the B team squad looks like this..

Goalkeepers
  1. Nathan Shepherd (20) - exp 2022 - (1 yr option)
  2. Ben Winterbottom (19) - exp 2023
Defenders
  1. Ben Hockenhull (19) - exp 2022 (1 yr option)
  2. Fin Stevens (18) - exp 2024 (1 yr option)
  3. Tristan Crama (19) - exp 2022 (1 yr option)
  4. Lewis Gordon (20) - exp 2022 -
Midfielders
  1. Jaako Oksanen (20) - exp 2022 - Out on loan again?
  2. Joe Adams (20) - exp 2022 - Out on loan again?
  3. Paris Maghoma (20) - exp ??? - Hopefully will have an injury free season
  4. Max Haygarth (19) - exp 2022 (1 yr option) -
  5. Ryan Trevitt (18) - exp ??? -
Forwards
  1. Gustav Mogensen (20) - exp 2022
  2. Aaron Pressley (20) - exp 2023 (1 yr option) -
  3. Wraynel Hercules (19) - exp 2022 -
  4. Alex Gilbert (19) - exp 2022 (1yr option) -
  5. Lachlan Brook (20) - 2023 (1yr option) -
  6. Nathan Young-Coombes - (18) - 2024 (1yr option)
So we're looking pretty good in attack but very light in defence and midfield. Expect some younger players to come in in those areas... You'd imagine at least one of our 20yr old strikers would get a loan somewhere though so we may well still bring more in in attack..

Good work, though Gilbert can work in midfield also.

Thanks Mr Cynical, the list is extremely useful, it is good that someone co-ordinates such things.

Given the number of trialists in the B team at the moment, I thought it might be worthwhile just running through the B team squad and where the players all stand contract wise. Looks like there might be a fair bit of upheaval over the summer..

Goalkeepers
  1. Nathan Shepherd (20) - exp 2021 - Nathan signed a year extension last summer and recently recovered from a v serious injury. I suspect we'll offer him a new deal.
  2. Ben Winterbottom (19) - exp 2023
  3. Jared Thompson (22) - exp 2021 - Can't see him being with us next season due to his age and the number of keepers we have at the club.
Defenders
  1. Kane 'O'Connor (20) - exp 2021 with 1 yr club option - Bit of a toss up as to whether we'll extend his contract. Has done well but we've been trialing a lot of CBs recently.. Doesn't seem to have got close to first team action but injury may have had an impact on that.
  2. Aubrel Koutsimouka (19) - exp 2021 with 1yr club option. - Can't see us taking up the option. Hasn't looked comfortable generally and little chance of progressing to first team.
  3. Ben Hockenhull (19) - exp 2022 (1 yr option)
  4. Fin Stevens (18) - exp 2022 (1 yr option) - Fully expect Fin to be offered a new contract in the summer given how well he's done. Imagine we'll want to tie him down on a longer deal with possible promotion to the first team squad.
  5. Tristan Crama (19) - exp 2022 (1 yr option)
  6. Lewis Gordon (20) - exp 2021 (1 yr option) - I think we'll probably take up the 1 yr option on Lewis' contract. He's done well and even made a solid 1st team appearance in the cup.
Midfielders
  1. Jaako Oksanen (20) - exp 2022 - Jaako signed an extension to his contract before going on loan to AFC. Will be interesting to see what happens with him given the number of DMs at the club now. Has done well enough at AFC and they may well want to take him on again next season on loan or possibly even permanently.
  2. Julien Carre (19) - exp 2021 - I suspect he'll be released in the summer. Has hardly started even when we've had a load of midfielders out injured/on loan.
  3. Arthur Read (21) - exp 2021 - Would expect to see Arthur move on in the summer too. Has done well at Stevenage so they may well consider taking him on.
  4. Joe Adams (20) - exp 2022 - Joe's been excellent for the B team without seemingly doing enough to knock on the first team squad's door. Expect him to go on another loan next season
  5. Paris Maghoma (19) - exp ??? - can't find a contract length for Paris but suspect it was a long one. Load of potential if he can get fit..
  6. Mads Bidstrup (20) - exp 2023 (1 yr option) - Likely to be promoted to the first team in the summer I'd have thought.
  7. Max Haygarth (19) - exp 2022 (1 yr option) -
  8. Ryan Trevitt (18) - exp ??? - can't find contract details on Ryan either but he's been doing really well recently so if it's a short one expect an extension soon.
  9. Ethan Robb (20) - on loan poss with a view - Robb has looked very good both in midfield and defence. Would expect us to offer him a contract.
Forwards
  1. Gustav Mogensen (20) - exp 2022 (1 yr option) - Would expect Gustav to be pushing for first team squad recognition or first team football on loan next season. Injury stopped that happening this season IMHO.
  2. Aaron Pressley (20) - exp ???? - again no contract info I can see on Aaron but he has improved dramatically over the last season so would expect him to stay on for another year or two, possibly with a loan out next season
  3. Wraynel Hercules (19) - exp 2021 (1yr option) - Feels like we're unlikely to trigger the option for Wraynel. He's really not featured enough and is way behind the likes of Brook, Haygarth and Mogensen.
  4. Alex Gilbert (19) - exp 2022 (1yr option) - Has done really well and one of those likely to be more involved with the first team going forward..
  5. Lachlan Brook (20) - 2023 (1yr option) - Another who's progressed really well and could well get involvement with the first team squad from the summer. Long contract for one his age suggests that's what we're expecting.
  6. Valgeir Valgeirsson (18) - loan to 2021 with option to buy. - Will we take up the option on Valgeir? I hope so. He looks v promising and is v flexible, playing RB, RW and midfield.

Contract info is as far as I've been able to research on the OS and net. Some holes in there so if anyone has any further info? What is striking is age of the squad with only 3 under 19 and a couple of the 19 year olds likely to leave. Imagine we'll be looking to bring in some younger players in the summer. There are quite a few 20 yr olds who could be considered on the cusp of the first team squad so will be interesting to see what happens with those. Given the number of trialists in the B team recently you'd imagine at least a few of them with find themselves in the first team squad or on loan next year.
really interesting. please report on the Bs often!.

Some of us haven't seen the first team play live for almost eighteen months and wouldn't recognise the B squad players. Excellent piece. Thank you.
